Peugeot 308 Servicing St Helens: The Short Version

Peugeot 308 servicing at Fastlane runs from a lighter interim service through to a full or major service, matched to your mileage and Peugeot's own schedule. Whether you're in a 1.2 PureTech petrol, a 1.5 or 1.6 BlueHDi diesel, or one of the older 1.6 THP or 1.6 e-HDi models, we use the correct-specification oil, quality filters and genuine or OE-quality parts, and we update your service record every visit.

Oil & Filters. Fresh oil to Peugeot's exact specification plus a new oil filter, and on a full service air, fuel and cabin filters too. On the PureTech petrol, using the right low-SAPS oil matters more than most owners realise.

Full Safety Inspection. Brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, wipers, coolant and the AdBlue system on diesels, all checked and reported, so problems are spotted early rather than at the roadside or on MOT day.

Honest Report. We tell you what we found on your 308, what's urgent and what can safely wait, with a clear price before any extra work. No surprises, no upselling.

Everything here is done on Boundary Road in St Helens, with the findings and the price given to you before any work starts. Ring 01744 808586 or read more about Peugeot DPF Repair St Helens.

Fastlane Autocare, 232-254 Boundary Road, St Helens

Where to find us

232-254 Boundary Road, St Helens WA10 2PZ. Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 12:30pm.

1.2 PureTech: the belt-in-oil that must be done on time. If your 308 has the 1.2 PureTech petrol engine, the single most important job we'll talk to you about is the wet timing belt, the belt-in-oil design that runs inside the engine and is lubricated by the engine oil. It's a clever idea, but the belt material degrades over time and, on neglected or wrong-oil examples, it can start to break up.

The shed rubber then gets drawn into the oil pickup and can starve the engine of oil, which is exactly the sort of failure that turns a service job into an engine rebuild.

The honest advice is simple: replace the wet timing belt at the correct interval, using the right belt and the right low-SAPS oil, and don't let it run over. We do the job properly, to Peugeot's schedule, so it's done right rather than cheaply. If you're not sure whether yours is due, tell us the mileage and year and we'll check it against the schedule for you.

Before Anything Is Ordered

You get a call with the findings in plain English and a written price. Nothing is ordered and nothing is stripped until you have said yes.

Peugeot 308 Servicing: Known Issues We Fix

Worth knowing

Peugeot 308 BlueHDi: DPF, EGR & AdBlue Done Right

⚠ We clean, regen or replace, we never delete. The 1.5 and 1.6 BlueHDi diesels in the 308 are strong, economical engines, but like all modern diesels they rely on a diesel particulate filter (DPF), an EGR valve and, on later cars, an AdBlue (SCR) system to stay clean. On cars used mostly for short, stop-start town runs, the DPF never gets hot enough to regenerate and slowly clogs, the EGR valve gums up, and AdBlue faults throw warning lights and can put the car into limp mode.

The right fix is proper maintenance: a forced regeneration, a professional DPF clean, EGR cleaning or replacement, and correcting AdBlue and sensor faults so the system works as Peugeot intended. What we will never do is remove, delete, blank or gut a DPF or EGR. That is illegal for road cars, it's an automatic MOT failure, and it's bad for the engine, so we don't offer it, whatever anyone else might tell you.

Book your MOT and service together and we'll sort anything flagged before it becomes an advisory or a fail.

Peugeot 308 Servicing: Intervals & Cost

Service intervals, the EAT gearbox, and honest pricing. As a general guide, an interim service every six months or 6,000 miles suits higher-mileage 308s, with a full service annually or around 12,000 miles and a major service every couple of years. Your Peugeot's own schedule and service indicator are the definitive word, and the wet timing belt on the PureTech and the cambelt or chain on other engines have their own mileage or time limits that we'll check against your car.

If you have an EAT6 or EAT8 automatic, don't forget the gearbox oil, an auto transmission service is genuine maintenance that keeps those boxes shifting smoothly and is well worth doing at the recommended interval.

On cost, we won't quote a fake precise figure online because it depends on your engine, oil and what your 308 needs. Call 01744 808586 and we'll give you an exact price for your registration.

Using an independent like us for your Peugeot 308 servicing does not affect your manufacturer's warranty, provided the work follows Peugeot's schedule and uses correct, matching-quality parts and oil, which is exactly how we work. We keep your service record complete and up to date every visit.

FAQs

Peugeot 308 Servicing St Helens: Common Questions

The questions Peugeot 308 owners ask us most, answered properly rather than in one line.

What does a Peugeot 308 service include?

It depends on the level. An interim service covers oil and oil filter to Peugeot's correct specification plus a safety inspection of brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights and fluids. A full service adds air, fuel and cabin filters and a deeper set of checks, and a major service goes further again. On diesel 308s we also check the DPF, EGR and AdBlue system.

Whatever the level, we use genuine or OE-quality parts, update your service record and give you an honest report on anything developing. Tell us your engine and mileage and we'll confirm exactly what yours needs.

Does the 1.2 PureTech 308 really need the wet timing belt done?

Yes, and it's important. The 1.2 PureTech uses a wet timing belt (belt-in-oil) that runs inside the engine and is lubricated by the oil. Over time the belt material can degrade and, on neglected or wrong-oil cars, break up, and the shed material can block the oil pickup and starve the engine. That can lead to serious engine damage, so it's not a job to leave.

Our advice is to replace the wet belt at the correct interval, using the right belt and the right low-SAPS oil. Give us your year and mileage and we'll check whether yours is due and quote you properly.

How often should a Peugeot 308 be serviced?

As a general guide, an interim service every six months or 6,000 miles suits higher-mileage cars, with a full service annually or around 12,000 miles and a major service every couple of years. The wet timing belt and cambelt or chain have their own separate limits by mileage and age.

Your Peugeot's own schedule and service indicator are the definitive answer, and we'll check yours against it. If you're not sure, just tell us your mileage and how you use the car.

My BlueHDi diesel 308 has a DPF light, can you fix it?

Yes, properly and legally. On a clogging DPF we can carry out a forced regeneration or a professional clean, and if it's genuinely beyond saving we'll replace it. We also clean or replace a gummed-up EGR valve and correct AdBlue and sensor faults so the system works as Peugeot intended.

What we won't do is remove, delete or blank the DPF or EGR, that's illegal for road cars and an automatic MOT failure. Our approach keeps your 308 clean, legal and running right. A diagnostic first tells us exactly what's going on.

Will servicing my 308 with you affect the Peugeot warranty?

No. Under the Block Exemption Regulation you can have your 308 serviced at an independent garage like ours without affecting the manufacturer's warranty, as long as the work follows Peugeot's schedule and uses parts and oil of the correct, matching quality.

That's exactly how we work, and we keep your service record complete every visit, so you get proper servicing while your warranty stays valid, usually for less than a main dealer would charge.

How much does a Peugeot 308 service cost?

It depends on your engine, the oil it takes and the service level, so we won't quote a fake precise figure online.

Tell us your registration and we'll give you an exact, upfront price with no hidden extras. Bigger jobs can be spread over 3, 4 or 6 months with 0% Payment Assist.

Can I book my 308's MOT and service together, and how much is the MOT?

Yes, and it's the smart way to do it. Booking it with your service saves a second trip and lets us put right anything flagged before it becomes an advisory or a fail.

You can read the official MOT rules on the gov.uk getting an MOT page. Just let us know you want both when you book.

Does the 1.6 THP petrol 308 have any known issues?

Yes. The older 1.6 THP petrol uses a timing chain rather than a wet belt, and it's known for the chain stretching and the tensioner wearing, which shows up as a rattle on cold start-up. Left alone, a stretched chain can jump timing and cause serious damage, so it's worth acting on early.

We can diagnose the chain and tensioner, check for related issues like carbon build-up and coil pack faults, and renew what's needed. If yours rattles on start-up, get it looked at sooner rather than later.

Does my 308's EAT6 or EAT8 automatic gearbox need servicing?

Yes. The EAT6 and EAT8 automatic gearboxes fitted to many 308s benefit from a gearbox oil service at the recommended interval. Fresh transmission fluid keeps the box shifting smoothly, helps avoid harsh or hesitant changes, and protects an expensive component, it's genuine, worthwhile maintenance rather than an optional extra.

If your auto has started to shift roughly or hesitate, let us know and we'll check the fluid and diagnose it properly before recommending anything.

Can I spread the cost of a big 308 job like a wet belt?

Yes. We're an approved Payment Assist garage, so bigger jobs like a wet timing belt, DPF work or a major service can be spread over 3, 4 or 6 monthly payments at 0% interest.

You can apply online in minutes, and it covers servicing, MOT, tyres and repairs. Ask us about pay monthly when you book.

What is the difference between an interim and a full service on a Peugeot 308?

An interim service is the lighter six-monthly option covering oil, oil filter and a safety inspection; a full service adds the air, fuel and pollen filters and a much longer checklist.

If you cover a lot of miles, interim services in between keep the oil fresh without waiting a full year. If you do modest mileage, a full service once a year is usually the right call on its own. Not sure which you need? Ring 01744 808586 with your mileage and how you use the car and we will tell you straight, or see Peugeot 208 Servicing St Helens.

How much does it cost to service a Peugeot 308?

The price comes down to your engine, whether you need an interim or a full service, and how much oil the engine takes and to what specification.

Some engines take four litres of a common grade and others take seven of a long-life synthetic, which is where most of the difference sits. Whatever the total, it will be noticeably less than a main dealer for the same schedule and the same parts quality. Ring 01744 808586 with your registration for a firm quote, or ask about Payment Assist.

Will servicing at an independent garage void my Peugeot warranty?

No. Under Block Exemption rules you can have a Peugeot 308 serviced anywhere, as long as the work follows the manufacturer schedule and uses correct-specification parts.

We service to exactly that standard, use the right oil and quality filters, and stamp and record everything so your history stays intact for resale or a warranty claim. Ring 01744 808586 if you would like us to check what your particular car and year needs, or book Peugeot 208 Servicing St Helens.

Do you use genuine Peugeot parts and the correct oil?

We fit genuine or matching original-equipment parts and the exact oil specification your engine calls for, and we tell you which before you agree to anything.

Oil specification matters more than people expect on a modern engine: the wrong grade affects the timing drive, the turbo and the DPF regeneration. On some parts there is a good alternative that saves money, and on others there is not. We will say which is which. Ring 01744 808586 or read more about Peugeot 208 Servicing St Helens.
