Mobile Mechanic Skelmersdale
Skelmersdale was laid out so you never really stop: roundabouts instead of junctions, dual carriageway instead of a high street. Easy to get round, and quietly hard on brakes and batteries. We come to you, and you get the price first.

Mobile mechanic Skelmersdale · What we can do for you
Mobile mechanic Skelmersdale: what turns up, and what it can do
A van with the working half of a garage inside it, booked to a time, priced before it leaves.
Plenty of people picture a mobile mechanic as somebody with a socket set and an optimistic attitude. Ours arrives with fault-code equipment that talks to the control modules rather than simply reading a light, a load tester for batteries and charging systems, trolley jacks and axle stands, torque wrenches, brake tooling, a wheel balancer, refrigerant gear for air conditioning, and the oils, filters and consumables for the cars we see round here week after week.
That covers the large majority of what goes wrong on a car. Warning lights, no-starts, batteries, alternators, brakes, discs, servicing, tyres, punctures, suspension knocks, sensors, air con that blows warm and the intermittent electrical faults that only appear when everything is cold — all of it gets finished on your drive, at the kerb, or in the bay you park in at Pimbo or Gillibrands.

What no van carries is a four-post lift, so clutches, wet belts, gearbox internals, welding and the MOT itself belong at Boundary Road, where we have the ramps and a DVSA-approved test bay. We collect the car and bring it back, and that collection is part of the job rather than one more thing for you to arrange.
You are not picking between the two. You ring once, we tell you which route your fault needs, and the same technicians do the work either way. A diagnostic scan, a full service or a battery fitted at your address all begin exactly where the car is standing.
Mobile mechanic Skelmersdale · Numbers worth knowing
Six figures that come up on nearly every job
Handy things to know before you ring, whatever the car is doing.
Mobile mechanic Skelmersdale · Finished where you park
Six jobs that never need to leave your street
Each of these is completed at your address. Only ramp work travels, and we do the travelling.

Diagnostics and warning lights
Stored codes, live sensor data and a road test where the fault only shows up moving. A code names a circuit, never a broken part, so we read the evidence before anybody buys anything.
Car diagnostics
Batteries and charging
Load tested before anything is sold, with the alternator output checked in the same visit. From the driver’s seat a tired battery and a failing charging system feel exactly alike.
Mobile battery fitting
Brakes
Pads, discs, sticking calipers and the squeal that arrives before any of them. Measured in millimetres rather than guessed at, torqued to figure and bedded in before we drive away.
Brake repairs
Servicing
Oil to the exact specification your engine calls for, filters to schedule, and the checks that catch the expensive faults early. The service book gets stamped and the work gets recorded.
Car servicing
Tyres and punctures
Send us the size printed on the sidewall and we bring the tyres and the balancer to you. Punctures inside the repairable area get a proper plug and patch fitted from the inside.
Mobile tyre fitting
Air conditioning
Vacuum, leak test, regas and a temperature reading at the vent afterwards. Air con that blows warm is usually short of gas, and gas only goes missing because something is letting it out.
Air con diagnosticsMobile mechanic Skelmersdale · Tyres at your door
Flat tyre on the drive this morning?
Send the size off the sidewall with your postcode and you get a price and a slot straight back. The balancer comes with us, so the wheel goes back on finished rather than temporarily. If the cost is the sticking point, look at pay monthly tyres and tyre finance.
Mobile mechanic Skelmersdale · What it costs
What you will actually pay
Three figures, given to you separately, agreed before a single spanner comes out.
They are kept apart on purpose. Rolled into one total, a price tells you nothing useful — you cannot see whether the labour is heavy, the component is expensive, or the call-out is doing the damage. Listed separately you can weigh each one on its own and say yes or no with your eyes open.
Labour is costed against the job in front of us, not against a clock ticking on the driveway. Seized wheel bolts, a caliper that fights, a bolt that shears — that is our afternoon disappearing, not another line on your invoice. The number quoted is the number you settle. The only thing that moves it is discovering a genuinely different fault, and when that happens we stop, ring you and give you the revised figure before anything else is touched.

Parts come with a choice wherever a real choice exists. On some cars the manufacturer’s own component is genuinely the right answer and we will tell you so plainly. On plenty of others a quality aftermarket equivalent does an identical job for noticeably less money. You get told which is which and you pick, instead of one figure landing on the bill with the decision already made for you.
If paying it all at once is awkward, raise it in the very first conversation. Spreading a bill over three, four or six months at 0% through pay monthly car repairs is straightforward, but it has to be set up before the invoice is settled rather than afterwards. Ring 01744 808586 and we will price it on the call, or read how much a mobile mechanic costs for a breakdown by job.

Want the number before you commit to anything?
Tell us the registration, what the car is doing and where it will be parked. Three separate figures come back before anything is booked in.
Mobile mechanic Skelmersdale · If it will not start
If your car will not start in Skelmersdale
No need to work out the cause. Tell us what happened when you turned the key and leave the rest with us.

It is far and away the most common call we take, and on the phone we only ever ask three things. What noise did it make, if any. What did the dashboard do — stay bright, dim right down, or go out altogether. And has it done anything similar before, even once. Those three answers between them narrow it down enough for us to load up properly, which is the difference between finishing the job on the first visit and coming back tomorrow with the right part.
A rested battery should sit close to 12.6 volts. Anything much under 12.4 is discharged rather than faulty, which is a completely different repair with a completely different price. With the engine running, a healthy charging system reads somewhere between 13.8 and 14.6 volts. We test both every time, because fitting a good battery to cure a charging fault buys you a fortnight and nothing more. The situations below cover nearly everything we get called out to.
Silence, no lights, nothing at all
Nothing on the dash and nothing under the bonnet. We will ask whether the interior light came on when you opened the door, because that alone usually separates a dead battery from a loose or corroded terminal.
One heavy clunk, then nothing
Power is clearly reaching the starter but the engine is not turning. Most often the solenoid, sometimes the starter motor itself, occasionally nothing more than a poor earth strap that has quietly corroded through.
Fast clicking as you turn the key
Almost always a battery with nothing left in it. We test the battery and the alternator together, since a good battery on a failing alternator will do precisely this again within days.
It spins over but never catches
The starter is doing its job, so now it is fuel, spark or timing. That is a diagnostic job rather than a parts job, and we price the diagnosis separately so nobody is signing up blind.
It fires, runs a second, then dies
Usually fuelling, or an immobiliser that is not reading the key properly. It sounds alarming from the driver’s seat and is regularly one of the cheaper faults to put right.
Fine on jump leads, flat again by morning
The battery is holding nothing overnight. Either it is worn out, or something is drawing current while the car sleeps — a healthy car settles under about 50 milliamps, and we can measure yours.
Whatever it turns out to be, you get the price before we set off, and most no-starts are finished in a single visit at your address. There is more detail on what to do when a car will not start and on having a battery tested and fitted at home. If it is stranded somewhere awkward, ring 01744 808586 and we will sort out vehicle recovery instead.
Mobile mechanic Skelmersdale · Did you know
A four-minute drive is harder on an engine than an hour on the M58
Skelmersdale is unusually quick to get around, which is exactly the problem. A run from Digmoor to the Concourse and back never lets the engine reach proper temperature, so the oil never burns off the moisture it collects, a diesel particulate filter never gets hot enough to clean itself out, and the alternator never puts back what starting the car took out.
Engines with a wet belt suffer most of all, because that belt runs submerged in the oil and sheds material into the oil pick-up strainer when the oil is left to go stale. It is why a low-mileage car doing short local trips often needs more attention than a high-mileage one doing motorway miles, and why “it has hardly been used” is not the reassurance people assume.
Mobile mechanic Skelmersdale · Whatever you drive
Servicing and repairs for the makes we see most round here
German, Korean, French or British, the schedule and the parts matter far more than the badge on the bonnet.

The single question we field most from Skelmersdale drivers is whether having a car looked after away from a franchised dealer costs them their manufacturer warranty. It does not. Block Exemption is a piece of competition law that says as long as your car is serviced to the maker’s own schedule, using parts of matching quality, and the work is properly recorded, the warranty stands wherever the job is done. We service to schedule, we record what went in, and we stamp the book, so the cover carries on exactly as before.
Where the badge does change things is in the detail. Different makes want different oil specifications, different service intervals, different reset procedures and, on a fair few, a new battery coded to the car before the charging system will treat it as new. Most cars built from roughly 2010 onwards need that step, and skipping it shortens the life of the battery you have just paid for.
BMW and Mini
Condition Based Servicing works out what is due from how the car has actually been driven, so we read it off the vehicle rather than guessing. Batteries get registered to the car, and we know the older diesels put the timing chain at the back of the engine, which makes a rattle on cold start worth taking seriously. See BMW servicing and BMW repairs.
Hyundai, Kia and the long warranties
Those five and seven year warranties are conditional, not automatic — miss the schedule or use the wrong parts and the cover goes. Servicing them properly at your address keeps it intact, and the paperwork you get is the paperwork that protects you if you ever need to claim on it.
Vauxhall, Renault, Ford and the rest
Everyday cars with everyday faults: coil packs, glow plugs, water pumps, wheel bearings, EGR valves and clutches. We carry the common parts for them, so on the vast majority of these jobs there is nothing to order and nothing to wait for.
Anything we cannot finish at your address moves to Boundary Road, and we collect it. That covers clutch repair, gearbox repairs, welding and belt work. For electric and hybrid cars our technicians hold IMI Level 4 for high-voltage systems, so EV diagnostics, hybrid diagnostics and Tesla diagnostics are all done in house. Ring 01744 808586 with the registration and we will tell you what yours is due.
Mobile mechanic Skelmersdale · Jobs that need the ramp
The work that belongs on a ramp, and how it gets there
Some jobs need the weight off the wheels. That is not a refusal — it means we collect the car and do it properly.
Clutches and dual-mass flywheels, timing belts and wet belts, gearbox internals, welding, exhaust systems and anything needing the suspension unloaded all want a four-post lift. So does the MOT itself, because a test has to be carried out at an approved test centre by law.
Ours is at 232-254 Boundary Road, and it is a DVSA-approved test centre with the ramps, the brake rollers and the emissions equipment on site. We pick the car up from Skelmersdale, do the work, and bring it back to you. The collection is part of the job rather than another problem landing in your lap, and you get the same three figures up front for ramp work as for anything done on your drive.
Booking an MOT at our test centre is worth doing early, because you can test up to a month before the current certificate expires and keep the same renewal date, which means an early test costs you nothing in lost time. Welding, bodywork and AdBlue system repair are all handled in house rather than farmed out, so ask instead of assuming. We also look after fleet and van work for the businesses on Pimbo, Stanley and Gillibrands.
Not sure whether it can be done where the car is parked?
Send us the make, the model, what it is doing and your Skelmersdale postcode on WhatsApp. We will tell you honestly whether it can be finished on your drive or whether it genuinely needs the ramp, and what each of those would cost.
Mobile mechanic Skelmersdale · How soon we can get to you
Can somebody come out today?
Often yes. What decides it is almost never availability — it is whether the part is already with us.
Usually the same day
Batteries, punctures, tyres, cars that will not start, warning lights, air con and most electrical faults. Ring before late morning and we can normally reach you before the afternoon is out.
Usually the next day
Brakes, servicing and anything needing a component ordered against your registration. We would far rather arrive tomorrow with the correct part than turn up today with an educated guess.
Booked into a slot
Clutches, timing and wet belts, gearbox work, welding and MOTs. These get a slot at Boundary Road and we collect and return the car as part of the booking.
What we try never to do is hand you a four-hour window and hope for the best. If a job ahead of yours overruns you get a message telling you so, not silence. Workshop hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 12:30pm, and Saturday mornings go first every week, so it is worth ringing 01744 808586 early in the week for one. If the car needs a ramp rather than a visit, our Skelmersdale garage page covers how collection works.

Anything on this page can go over 3, 4 or 6 months at 0% interest. On bills up to £1,000 it is a soft credit search, so asking leaves no mark on your file.
Mobile mechanic Skelmersdale · Why the price comes first
Why the price is agreed before we set off
Standing on the drive with the bonnet already up is the worst possible moment to start discussing money.
Most people have had a version of it at some point. Somebody arrives, has a look, confirms roughly what you had already worked out for yourself, and only then does a figure appear — with you standing there, the car in pieces, and no realistic way of saying you would like to think about it. Nobody makes a good decision from that position and we would rather nobody had to.
Settling it beforehand works better for both sides. You get the number before anything happens to the car, and you can walk away from it at no cost. We get to know what the job actually is, which means the right parts are loaded and enough time is booked to finish in one visit rather than two.
When nobody yet knows what is wrong, the diagnosis is priced entirely on its own. You pay to find out, you are told what we found, and then you decide what happens next. Whether that turns out to be a blocked particulate filter, carbon build-up in the intake or something far cheaper, nothing is ordered and nothing is fitted until you have said go ahead.
Mobile mechanic Skelmersdale · Areas we cover
Where we come out to around Skelmersdale
Vans working across the North West, with one covering Skelmersdale and the towns either side of it.
Inside the town itself there is no part of it we do not come to. Digmoor, Tanhouse, Birch Green, Ashurst, Chapel House, Blaguegate, Northway, Old Skelmersdale and the streets around the Concourse are all ordinary working days for us, as are Up Holland and Dalton up the hill. If you are closer to Ormskirk, Wigan or Rainford, those pages cover the same service on your own doorstep.
Mobile mechanic Skelmersdale · Out and about in the town
Where we end up working in Skelmersdale
Cars never break down anywhere convenient. These are the places we get called to, and what tends to be wrong when we arrive.

Skelmersdale is a new town and it drives like one. There are barely any traffic lights, the estates hang off a ring of roundabouts, and the dual carriageways move you between them so quickly that a journey which would take twenty minutes elsewhere takes four here. That is genuinely pleasant to drive and quietly punishing on machinery. Engines rarely reach full temperature, particulate filters rarely get the sustained run they need to clean themselves, and batteries never get long enough on the alternator to replace what starting the car used up.
Then there is the other half of the town’s driving, which is the exact opposite. A large number of people here commute out along the M58 every morning, to Liverpool one way or the M6 and beyond the other. Those cars do proper mileage at speed, and they wear out in a completely different pattern — tyres, brakes, bearings, belts and suspension bushes rather than the short-trip faults. We see both, often on the same street, and what the car needs depends far more on which of those two lives it leads than on how old it is.
Digmoor, Tanhouse and Birch Green
Estate parking and very short local trips. Flat batteries in the first cold week of winter and diesels grumbling about their filters are the two we are called out for most from these three.
Ashurst, Chapel House and Blaguegate
Longer driveways and steeper approaches. Handbrake and electronic parking brake faults turn up more here than anywhere else in town, along with the clutch wear that goes with pulling away on a slope.
The Concourse and the town centre
Time-limited bays and a car that will not restart after the shopping. We come to the space rather than making you arrange recovery from somewhere you are not allowed to leave it.
Pimbo, Stanley and Gillibrands
Cars and vans stood still from clocking on until clocking off, then refusing to start in the dark. We work in the yard or the bay while you are still inside, so nobody loses a shift.
The M58 commute
Motorway mileage shows up as tyres, brakes, wheel bearings and belts long before it shows up as anything else. If you drive it daily your car wears very differently to your neighbour’s.
The roundabouts and the ring road
Constant steering lock and low-speed cornering scrubs the shoulders off front tyres and works suspension bushes and drop links hard. Uneven wear across a tyre is worth a look before it becomes an MOT problem.
Wherever the car is, we come to it, and Boundary Road picks up anything needing the ramp. Short-trip faults are covered in more depth on car will not start and car servicing, and the wear that comes with motorway miles on mobile tyre fitting and brake pads and discs.
Mobile mechanic Skelmersdale · FAQs
Questions we get asked most in Skelmersdale
The ones that come up on the phone most days from drivers in the town.
A mobile mechanic in Skelmersdale is quoted as a fixed price before the visit is booked, and it comes to you as three separate figures: the call-out, the labour and the parts. You agree all three on the phone, so the amount you are quoted is the amount you actually pay.
Labour is costed against the job rather than an hourly clock running on your driveway. If a wheel bolt is seized or a caliper puts up a fight, that extra hour belongs to us and never appears on your invoice as a surprise.
The one thing that can move an agreed price is finding a genuinely different fault underneath the first one. When that happens we stop, ring you, explain what has turned up and give you the revised number before anything else is touched.
Parts are quoted with a choice wherever a real choice exists, and you pick rather than having it picked for you. Ring 01744 808586 for a price on the call, or spread it with pay monthly car repairs.
Yes. Servicing a BMW in Skelmersdale to the manufacturer's own schedule, using parts of matching quality and recording the work properly, keeps the warranty completely intact. Block Exemption is the competition law that guarantees it, and it applies wherever the servicing is carried out.
BMW works on Condition Based Servicing, which calculates what is due from how the car has genuinely been driven rather than from a fixed mileage. We read that data off the vehicle itself, so you get the service the car is asking for.
That means the oil service, brake fluid, micro-filter and spark plugs each come due on their own timetable. We tell you which of them the car is actually reporting, and what each costs, before anything is booked in or ordered.
The book gets stamped and the work gets recorded against your registration, which is the paperwork that protects you later. More detail on BMW servicing, and car servicing in Skelmersdale covers every other make.
We repair BMWs in Skelmersdale at your home or workplace, and at our Boundary Road workshop for anything needing a ramp. Diagnostics, batteries, brakes, suspension, cooling, electrical faults and servicing are all handled in house by our own technicians rather than passed on to somebody else.
BMW batteries have to be registered to the car once they are replaced, otherwise the charging system keeps treating the new battery as the old one and shortens its life considerably. We code them as part of the fitting, not as an extra.
On the older four-cylinder diesels the timing chain sits at the back of the engine rather than the front, so a rattle on a cold start is worth investigating early. Left alone it becomes a gearbox-out job instead of a manageable one.
Tell us the registration and what it is doing and you will get a straight answer on whether it can be finished at your address. Call 01744 808586 or read more on BMW repairs.
An MOT has to be carried out at an approved test centre, so nobody can do one at your house. Ours is a DVSA-approved test centre at 232-254 Boundary Road, and we collect the car from Skelmersdale, test it and bring it back to you.
The collection and return is part of the booking rather than an added extra, which means an MOT costs you the test and none of your day. Anyone advertising a mobile MOT is describing something that is not an MOT.
You can test up to a month before your current certificate runs out and still keep the existing renewal date, so booking early loses you nothing at all. It also leaves room to sort any advisories out before they turn into failures.
If something does fail we tell you what it is, what it costs and what is only an advisory, and you decide. Book an MOT at our test centre or see how collection works.
Yes, we service and repair Hyundai cars across Skelmersdale, at your address for most work and at the workshop for ramp jobs. Hyundai's long manufacturer warranty is conditional on the schedule being followed with correct parts, and servicing with us keeps that cover in place.
That conditional part catches people out. A five year warranty is only worth anything if every service was done on time, to specification, and written down, so the record we leave you is as important as the oil.
The everyday faults are the same as any other make: batteries, brakes, sensors, coil packs, glow plugs, air conditioning and suspension. Nearly all of it gets finished where you park, because the parts for the common jobs travel with us.
Send the registration through and we will tell you what yours is due and what it will cost. There is more on servicing in Skelmersdale and on car diagnostics if a light is on.
Yes. Renaults and Vauxhalls are among the cars we work on most often in Skelmersdale, and the great majority of what they need is done on your drive. Servicing, brakes, batteries, clutch diagnosis, electrical faults and air conditioning are all ordinary mobile work.
Both makes are well served by quality aftermarket parts, which usually means a noticeably lower bill for identical performance. Where the manufacturer's own component genuinely is the better answer we say so plainly rather than quietly fitting the cheaper one.
Warning lights on either make are worth reading properly rather than clearing. A stored code names a circuit, not a broken component, and the difference between those two is often several hundred pounds of parts nobody needed to buy.
Give us the registration and the symptom and you will have a price before we set off. See what to do if it will not start, or ring 01744 808586 and we will talk it through.
An air conditioning regas in Skelmersdale is quoted as a fixed price once we know which refrigerant your car takes, and it is done at your address. The job is a vacuum, a leak test, the regas itself and a vent temperature check afterwards.
The leak test is the part that matters. Refrigerant does not get used up in normal running, so a system that has gone warm has been letting gas out somewhere, and simply refilling it means paying twice within a year.
Older cars generally run on one refrigerant type and cars from around 2017 onwards on a newer one that costs considerably more. We check which yours takes from the registration, so the price you are given is the real price.
Weak, smelly or slow-cooling air conditioning is usually gas, a blocked pollen filter or a failed condenser. See air con diagnostics in Skelmersdale or air con regas for what each involves.
Yes. Mobile tyre fitting in Skelmersdale is done entirely at your home or workplace, including the balancing, because the balancer comes with us. Send the size printed on the sidewall with your postcode and a price and a slot come straight back to you.
The legal minimum tread is 1.6mm across the middle three quarters of the tyre, but wet grip starts falling away noticeably below 3mm. Waiting for the legal limit means several months of longer stopping distances in exactly the weather you need them shortest.
Punctures within the repairable central area get a proper plug and patch fitted from inside the tyre rather than a plug pushed in from outside. Damage to the sidewall or the shoulder cannot be repaired safely and we will tell you straight.
Uneven wear across one tyre usually points at alignment or suspension rather than the tyre itself, and we check for that before fitting new rubber. See mobile tyre fitting and pay monthly tyres.
Get the car somewhere safe if it will move, then ring us with the registration, your location and what happened just before it stopped. Most breakdowns in Skelmersdale are batteries, starting faults or punctures, and those are finished at the roadside on the first visit.
Tell us what the car did rather than what you think is wrong. Whether the dashboard stayed bright or went dark, whether there was a noise, and whether it had done anything similar before all change what we load up.
If it genuinely cannot be repaired where it is, we arrange recovery to Boundary Road and carry on there. That way the diagnosis, the recovery and the repair are all the same people, and nothing gets lost being handed between them.
Call 01744 808586 and you will speak to the workshop rather than a call centre. There is more on cars that will not start and on vehicle recovery.
Short journeys are the usual reason. Skelmersdale trips are quick by design, and four or five minutes between roundabouts never puts back the charge that starting the engine took out, so the battery slowly loses ground week after week until one cold morning it stops.
A battery at rest should read close to 12.6 volts, and much under 12.4 means discharged rather than dead. With the engine running a healthy charging system reads between 13.8 and 14.6 volts, which tells us whether the alternator is doing its share.
If neither of those explains it, something is drawing current while the car sleeps. A healthy car settles to under about 50 milliamps once everything has shut down, and anything well above that is a parasitic drain we can trace and cure.
We test the battery and the charging system together on every visit, because replacing one to fix the other buys a fortnight. See mobile battery fitting or ring 01744 808586 for a price.
Yes, and a full service done on your drive in Skelmersdale is the same service you would get in a workshop. Oil to your engine's exact specification, the oil filter, and the air, pollen and fuel filters wherever the schedule calls for them.
After that comes the inspection: levels, belts, hoses, brakes measured in millimetres, tyres including the spare, lights, wipers, suspension and anything showing early wear. You get told what is fine, what is worth watching and what genuinely needs doing.
Old oil and filters leave with us and are disposed of properly, so nothing is left on your driveway. The book is stamped, the work is recorded against your registration, and your manufacturer warranty carries on exactly as it was.
Booking it where the car already sits removes the whole problem of dropping a car off and getting yourself home again. See car servicing in Skelmersdale or servicing on Payment Assist.
Brake pads start life around 10 to 12mm thick and are worn out by about 3mm, so the useful question is how many millimetres are left rather than whether they look low. We measure them and give you the figure, on every visit.
The warnings usually arrive in order. A light squeal as you slow gently comes first, then a longer pedal travel, then a grinding noise that means the friction material has gone and the metal backing is cutting into the disc.
Discs wear as well and have a minimum thickness stamped on them by the manufacturer. Fitting new pads to a disc already at its limit wastes the pads, so both get measured and you are told what each option costs.
Pads and discs are straightforward driveway work, torqued to figure and bedded in properly before we leave. See brake repairs and brake pads and discs for what is involved.
Often yes, and what decides it is almost always whether the part is already with us rather than the state of the diary. Batteries, punctures, tyres, no-starts, warning lights and air conditioning are usually done the same day as long as you ring us before late morning.
Brakes, servicing and anything needing a component ordered against your registration are more often next day. We would far rather turn up tomorrow with the right part than arrive today with a guess and have to come back again.
Ramp work is different again. Clutches, timing and wet belts, gearbox jobs, welding and MOTs get a booked slot at Boundary Road, and the collection and return of the car is included in that booking rather than charged on top.
Our hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 12:30pm, and Saturday mornings go early. Ring 01744 808586 or see the garage page for booking.
Yes. Payment Assist lets you spread any repair over three, four or six months at 0% interest and at no extra cost, and on bills up to 1,000 pounds it is a soft credit search, so simply asking about it leaves no mark at all on your credit file.
To use it you need to be eighteen or over, resident in the UK, and paying by a debit card in your own name. That is the whole list, and the application is done while you are on the phone to us.
The one condition that catches people is timing. It has to be arranged before the invoice is settled, not afterwards, so mention it in the first conversation even if you are not sure yet whether you will use it.
It applies to everything on this page, from a set of tyres to a clutch. See pay monthly car repairs in Skelmersdale or tyre finance for the details.
An engine management light means the car has stored a fault code because a reading fell outside what it expected. The code names the circuit involved, never the broken part, which is why reading it properly matters far more than simply clearing it.
A steady light generally means drive carefully and get it looked at soon. A flashing one means a misfire that can damage the catalytic converter within minutes, and that is the one where stopping and ringing is genuinely the cheaper option.
We read stored codes, freeze frame data and live sensor readings, then road test the car if the fault only appears while moving. That is what separates a sensor that has failed from a sensor correctly reporting a problem elsewhere.
Clearing a code without finding the cause simply hides it until the next drive cycle. See car diagnostics, or particulate filter work if yours is a diesel showing filter warnings.
Yes. Our technicians hold IMI Level 4 qualifications for high-voltage systems, which is the qualification required for working safely on electric and hybrid vehicles. Diagnostics, servicing, brakes, tyres, air conditioning and twelve-volt system faults are all handled in house rather than being sent out to somebody else.
Electric cars are heavy and quick away from a standstill, so they get through front tyres faster than most drivers expect. Regenerative braking does the opposite to the brakes, and calipers can seize simply because the pads are used so lightly.
They still have a conventional twelve-volt battery running the electronics, and that battery fails in exactly the same way as any other. A hybrid or electric car that will not wake up is very often nothing to do with the main pack.
Servicing is lighter but not optional, and the cooling and brake fluid still matter. See EV diagnostics, hybrid diagnostics and Tesla diagnostics in Skelmersdale.
The road layout is the likeliest reason. Skelmersdale is built around roundabouts rather than junctions, so a normal week involves far more steering lock and low-speed cornering than most towns, and that scrubs the shoulders off front tyres well before the centre wears.
Wear that is heavier on one edge than the other usually points at alignment rather than the tyre. Kerbs, potholes and the constant cornering all knock the geometry out slowly, and the tyres pay for it long before you feel anything.
The same driving works suspension bushes, drop links and wheel bearings harder than motorway miles would. A knock over speed bumps or a hum that changes as you turn are the two symptoms worth mentioning when you ring us.
Checking pressures monthly is the cheapest thing you can do, since an underinflated tyre wears its edges away quickly. See mobile tyre fitting or puncture repair nearby.
Those two belong on a ramp rather than a driveway, so we collect the car from Skelmersdale, do the work properly at our Boundary Road workshop and return it to you. The collection is part of the job rather than an extra charge.
A clutch needs the gearbox out, which means the weight off the wheels and the car held safely at height. Belts need the engine supported and the timing locked with the correct tools, and neither is honest work to attempt at a kerb.
Wet belts are a separate case worth knowing about. They run inside the engine, submerged in the oil, and shed material into the oil pick-up strainer as they age, which is why the oil change interval matters more on those engines.
You still get three figures up front and a call before anything changes. See clutch repair and gearbox repairs, or ring 01744 808586 with the registration.
Just three things get you a price in about two minutes: the registration, what the car is doing in your own words, and where it will be parked when we arrive. You do not need to know what is actually wrong with the car yourself.
The registration gives us the exact engine, the correct oil specification and the right part numbers in one go, which is what makes a firm price possible on the call. The make and model works fine if the registration is not to hand.
Describing the symptom plainly beats naming a part. What noise, when it happens, what the dashboard shows and whether it has done it before tells us far more than a guess at a component, and stops us arriving loaded wrong.
Where the car sits matters too, since a driveway, a works yard and a time-limited bay each need a different approach. Ring 01744 808586 or send the details through the Skelmersdale garage page.
Yes. We run vans across the North West and one of them covers Skelmersdale and everything around it, including Up Holland, Dalton, Newburgh, Bickerstaffe and Westhead, as well as every estate inside the town from Digmoor and Tanhouse to Chapel House and Blaguegate.
The service is identical wherever you are: three figures agreed before we set off, the job finished where the car is parked, and the workshop behind it for anything that genuinely needs lifting. Nothing about the price depends on which estate you live on.
Neighbouring towns have their own pages with the same service, so if you are closer to one of those it may be worth starting there instead. The technicians and the workshop are the same either way.
Have a look at Ormskirk, Wigan, Rainford and Billinge, or ring 01744 808586 and we will tell you the next slot.

Three small things that make the visit go smoothly
None of them are essential, but each one saves time on the day and occasionally saves money.
Somewhere we can open the doors
A driveway, a kerb, a works yard or a bay all work fine. What helps is a bit of room on at least one side, since jacking a car in a tight space is slower and sometimes not safe at all.
The locking wheel nut key
It lives in the boot, the glovebox or the spare wheel well, and it is needed for anything involving a wheel coming off. Missing keys are the single most common reason a tyre or brake job has to be rearranged.
A rough idea of the history
When it was last serviced, whether the battery or the brakes have been changed recently, and anything a previous garage flagged. It stops us charging you to find out something you already knew.
One thing that genuinely does not help is somebody else’s quote for a different diagnosis. We would rather look at the car and price the fault actually in front of us than work backwards towards a number attached to a job that may not be yours.

Tell us where the car is and what it is doing
Send the registration, a plain description of what the car is doing, and whether it will be on your drive, at the kerb or in a bay at work. Back comes what it needs, the three figures, and the next slot we can reach you in. If it turns out to be something other than we expected once we are with the car, you get a phone call before anything else happens.
