Mobile mechanic Sale · What we can do for you
Mobile mechanic Sale: what we bring, and where we can work
A van with the working half of a garage in it, and a team of vans out across the North West with one of them covering Sale.
The question we get asked before any other is whether the job can be done where the car currently is. Usually it can. What decides it is not the postcode — it is whether the repair needs a lift, a wheel balancer or a four-poster, and the honest answer to that is only a handful of jobs.
Everything else travels with us. Fault-code equipment that talks to the individual control modules rather than simply reading the light on the dashboard, a battery and charging tester that puts a real load through the battery instead of guessing from a voltage, jacks and axle stands, torque wrenches, brake tooling, oils and filters, and the consumables for the cars we see week after week across Trafford.

Where Sale differs from a lot of the towns we cover is the parking. A terraced street off Northenden Road gives you a kerbside job with traffic passing, so we bring cones, we work on the pavement side wherever the car allows it, and we tell you honestly if a particular repair wants a driveway instead. Larger plots towards Brooklands and Ashton-on-Mersey give us room for a full service or a brake overhaul without anybody having to move.
The other half of the answer is the workshop. Boundary Road is a DVSA-approved test centre with ramps, and it takes the clutches, the cambelts, the welding, the gearbox work and the MOTs. You are not choosing between a van that only handles the easy jobs and a garage that wants your car all day — you get whichever suits the fault, and the same people either way. A diagnostic scan or a full service starts at your address, and only the ramp jobs move.
Mobile mechanic Sale · Handy numbers to know
The numbers worth knowing
A handful of figures that come up on most of the jobs we get called out to in Sale.
Mobile mechanic Sale · At your address
Six jobs we finish where the car is stood
All six of these get done at your address in Sale. Anything bigger goes to the workshop and comes back sorted.

Diagnostics and warning lights
Stored codes, live sensor data and a road test where the fault only appears on the move. A code names a circuit, not a broken part, so we read the evidence before anybody buys anything.
Car diagnostics
Batteries and charging
Load tested before we sell you anything, and the charging system checked at the same visit. A worn battery and a failing alternator feel exactly the same to drive.
Car battery replacement
Brakes
Pads and discs measured rather than guessed, torqued to the manufacturer’s figure and bedded in properly before we leave you with the car.
Brake repairs
Servicing
Oil to the grade your engine actually calls for, filters, and the checks that catch the bigger bills early. Booked around your week, and the book gets stamped.
Servicing on Payment Assist
Tyres and punctures
Send the size off the sidewall and we bring the tyres to you and balance them on the spot. Repairable punctures get a proper plug and patch from the inside.
Mobile tyre fitting
Auto electrical faults
Lights, sensors, earths and the intermittent ones that only show themselves when the car is cold. Chasing those takes time, which is easier outside your house than in a queue.

Flat tyre outside the house in Sale?
Send us the size from the sidewall and your postcode and you get a price and a slot back. The balancer comes with us, so the wheel goes back on finished rather than as a get-you-home. If the cost is the sticking point there are pay monthly tyres and tyre finance.
Mobile mechanic Sale · What it costs
What it will cost you
Three figures, given separately and given first: the call-out, the labour, the parts.
Splitting them matters more than it sounds. One combined number gives you nothing to push back on, because you cannot see whether the hours, the components or the visit itself is where the money went. Itemised, each line stands on its own and you can turn any one of them down.
Labour is set against the work, not against a meter. Cars that live on Sale's terraced streets take more salt and grit through the arches than a garaged car ever does, so seized fixings are common here — and when a caliper slider refuses to move, that time is ours to swallow. What you were quoted is what appears on the invoice.
The single exception is finding a genuinely different fault. If that happens the work stops, the phone rings, and you get the revised number before anybody carries on.

Parts come with a choice wherever a real choice exists. On some cars the manufacturer’s own component is genuinely the right call and we will tell you so. On plenty of others a quality aftermarket equivalent does the identical job for noticeably less money. We explain which is which and let you pick, rather than deciding quietly and putting one number at the bottom of the bill.
If paying it all at once is awkward, say so in the very first conversation. Spreading it over three, four or six months at 0% is straightforward, but it has to be arranged before the invoice is settled — pay monthly car repairs in Sale covers how it works. For a fuller breakdown job by job, how much a mobile mechanic costs goes through it properly. Neighbouring towns are priced the same way, so Altrincham and Stretford get the same three figures.

Want the figure before you commit?
Tell us the car, what it is doing, and whereabouts in Sale it will be parked. Three numbers come back before anything is booked.
Mobile mechanic Sale · If it won’t start
If your car will not start in Sale
You do not need to know what is wrong. Tell us what the car did when you turned the key, in your own words, and that is enough for us to load up properly.
It is the most common call we take, and it is far less mysterious than it feels stood on a cold pavement at half past seven. Below are the situations people describe to us most often and what usually turns out to be behind each one. If yours is not on the list, ring anyway — describing it plainly is always better than trying to name a part.
Silence, no lights, nothing at all
No dashboard, no click, no noise from anywhere. That is a power problem — a flat battery, a corroded terminal or a poor earth — and it is normally the quickest of the lot to put right at the kerbside.
One heavy clunk, and then it stops
We will ask whether the lights stayed bright. If they did, power is arriving but the starter motor is not turning the engine, which is usually the solenoid, sometimes the motor, occasionally a connection feeding it.
Fast clicking, like a machine gun
Almost always a battery with nothing left to give. We test the battery and the charging system in the same visit, because a good battery behind a failing alternator will do exactly this again in a fortnight.
It spins over but never actually fires
Now we are looking at fuel, spark or timing. That is a diagnostic job rather than a parts job, and we price the diagnosis separately so nobody is signing up to a repair blind.
It catches, runs for a second, then dies
We will ask whether the immobiliser light stayed on. Usually it is fuelling or the car not reading the key properly. It sounds alarming and is often one of the cheaper things to put right.
It goes on jump leads, then dies overnight
The battery is holding nothing while the car sleeps. Either it is worn out, or something is drawing current after lock-up. A parked car should settle under about 50 milliamps, and those are two different repairs.
A word on batteries, because it saves people real money. A battery sitting at rest should read close to 12.6 volts. Much under 12.4 and it is discharged rather than dead, which is a different problem with a different answer. With the engine running the charging system should show somewhere between 13.8 and 14.6 volts. We test before we sell, and we test the alternator in the same visit, because replacing a healthy battery to cure a charging fault buys you a fortnight and nothing else.
Sale makes this worse than the mileage suggests. A short run to the tram stop, a crawl down the A56 and a stop-start mile on the M60 never puts back what starting the car took out, so batteries here give up younger than the odometer implies. Most cars built after around 2010 also need the new battery coding to the vehicle, which we do at your address. More in car won’t start in Sale and battery replacement.
Mobile mechanic Sale · Did you know
A queue on the M60 wears brakes faster than a long run ever will
Brake pads leave the factory around 10 to 12mm thick and are finished by the time they reach 3mm. What eats them is not speed, it is the number of times you press the pedal — and a commute that crawls between junctions on the M60 and then stops at every set of lights along the A56 does that thousands of times more per mile than an open road. It is why a car in Sale with modest annual mileage can arrive at a service with less pad left than a motorway car that has done three times the distance, and why we always measure rather than assume.
Mobile mechanic Sale · Servicing and brakes
Servicing and brakes without giving up a day
The two jobs people put off longest are the two that fit a home visit best.
Nobody enjoys surrendering a Saturday morning to a service, and that is why services slip — not because anyone thinks they do not matter, but because the appointment always lands on the one day you needed the car. Doing it on the drive, or at the kerb, while you get on with something else removes the whole problem.

A service at your address is a real one, not a token oil change. Oil to the exact specification your engine calls for rather than a generic grade out of whatever tub was nearest, then the oil filter, the air filter, the pollen filter and the fuel filter wherever the schedule asks for them. After that a proper look over levels, tyres, lights, hoses and anything showing early wear, and the service book gets stamped with what actually went in.
Brakes are the same story. Pads get measured against the 3mm figure rather than eyeballed through a wheel, discs get checked for lip and thickness, sliders get cleaned and greased so the pads wear evenly, and everything gets torqued to the manufacturer’s setting. Then we bed them in before handing the car back, because fresh pads that have never been bedded do not stop the way they should.
If the car is still inside its manufacturer warranty, having us do it changes nothing. Block exemption rules mean any properly equipped garage can service a car to the maker’s schedule using parts of matching quality without the warranty being affected — in plain terms, you are not obliged to use a main dealer to keep your cover. We also look after fleet and business vehicles, which suits the small firms around Sale and Stretford.
Mobile mechanic Sale · When it needs the ramp
When your car needs the workshop, not the kerb
A short list, and we tell you which side of it your job falls on before you commit to anything.
Most repairs are perfectly safe and perfectly sensible to carry out at an address. A few genuinely are not, and pretending otherwise helps nobody. Clutches, cambelts and wet belts, gearbox work, welding, wheel alignment and MOT testing all want a lift, proper lighting and equipment that does not fit in a van.

Wet belts are worth a specific mention because they catch a lot of owners out. Unlike an old-fashioned cambelt running dry behind a cover, a wet belt runs submerged in engine oil, and as it ages it sheds material into the oil. That debris collects in the oil pick-up strainer, and a blocked strainer starves the engine of oil long before the belt itself ever snaps. It is a job for the ramp, and it is a job worth doing on schedule rather than on symptoms.
When something falls on the workshop side, we collect the car and bring it back — you are not left arranging that yourself. Boundary Road is a DVSA-approved test centre, so an MOT, a clutch replacement or welding all happen in-house rather than being farmed out. Welding is done on site by our own technicians, and our team hold IMI Level 4 qualifications for high-voltage work on electric and hybrid vehicles.
Not sure whether it can be done where you are parked?
Send the make, model, what it is doing and your Sale postcode on WhatsApp. You will get a straight answer on whether we can finish it where the car is stood or whether it genuinely needs the ramp — and what each of those would cost.
Mobile mechanic Sale · How soon we can reach you
Can we come out today?
Often yes. What decides it is what the car needs, not where you are.
There is a van covering Sale and the rest of Trafford, so reaching you is rarely the question. What actually decides a same-day visit is whether the part is already on board or has to be ordered against your registration.
The other thing that decides it in Sale is where the car is standing. A car on a driveway at Brooklands can be started on almost any slot; one on a permit street off Northenden Road needs a little more thought about when we can work safely alongside moving traffic. Tell us which when you ring and the slot we give you will hold.
Usually same day
Batteries, punctures and tyres, no-starts, warning lights, and the electrical faults that take patience to trace. An early call usually means today.
Usually next day
Brakes, servicing and anything needing a part ordered to your exact registration. We would sooner arrive tomorrow with the right component than today with a guess.
Booked in properly
Clutches, cambelts, wet belts, welding, gearbox work and MOTs. These get a slot at the workshop, and we collect the car and return it as part of the job.
What we try never to do is hand you a four-hour window and hope for the best. If we are running behind you get a message telling you so. Workshop hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 12:30pm, and Saturday mornings are the busiest slot of the week, so they tend to go first.

Mobile mechanic Sale · Why we quote first
Why the price is agreed before we set off
Standing on the pavement with the bonnet up is the worst possible moment for anyone to start talking about money.
Most people have had that version of it at some point. Someone turns up, has a look, confirms roughly what you already feared, and only then does a figure appear — with you stood there, the car half apart, and no realistic way of saying you would like to think about it. Nobody makes a good decision in that position, and we would rather not put anybody in it.
Settling the number first is better for both sides. You know exactly what you are agreeing to before anything happens to the car, and you can say no at no cost. We know precisely what the job is, so the right parts are loaded and enough time gets booked to finish it in one visit rather than coming back a second time.
When nobody yet knows what is actually wrong, we price the diagnosis on its own. You pay to find out, you get told plainly what we found — whether that turns out to be a blocked diesel particulate filter, carbon build-up in the intake, or something a great deal cheaper — and then you decide what happens next. Nothing is ordered and nothing is fitted until you have heard the figure and said go ahead. It works the same way in Manchester and Stockport.
Mobile mechanic Sale · Areas we cover
Where we come out to around Sale
One of our vans covers Sale and the rest of Trafford, and the neighbouring towns are served the same way by the same team.
Within Sale itself we cover Brooklands, Sale Moor, Ashton-on-Mersey and the streets either side of Northenden Road, and we carry on out to Timperley, Urmston, Davyhulme, Northenden, Partington and Carrington. None of those has a page of its own yet, so ring or message with the postcode and we will confirm the next slot. Altrincham and Stretford sit either side of you and are covered by the same team.
Mobile mechanic Sale · Out and about in Sale
Where we usually end up working in Sale
Six kinds of address that account for most of what we get called out to here.
Terraced streets off Northenden Road
Kerbside work with traffic going past. We bring cones, work from the pavement side wherever the car allows, and say honestly if a job would be safer on a driveway instead.
Brooklands and the larger plots
Proper driveways with room around the car. A full service, a brake overhaul or a battery and charging investigation can all be done here without anybody shuffling vehicles about.
Ashton-on-Mersey and Sale Moor
A mix of the two, and a lot of second cars that sit unused for days at a time. Those are the ones that turn up with a flat battery and hardly any miles on them.
The A56 corridor into Manchester
Stop-start commuting punishes brakes, clutches and batteries far more than the mileage suggests. Most of our brake work in Sale comes from cars doing exactly this run twice a day.
Flats and apartment parking near the tram
Allocated bays and shared car parks, often with a barrier. Tell us which when you book and we sort access beforehand rather than ringing you from the entrance.
Small business and van fleets
Trades and small firms who cannot lose a vehicle for a day. We stagger servicing so the whole fleet is never off the road together and keep the records in one place.
Wherever the car is, the approach is the same: three figures agreed first, the job finished in one visit where that is possible, and the workshop behind it for anything else. If you are actually closer to Altrincham, Stretford or Manchester, those pages cover the same service for those towns.
Mobile mechanic Sale · FAQs
Questions we get asked most in Sale
The twenty that come up most often on the phone from Sale and the rest of Trafford.
A mobile mechanic in Sale is quoted as three separate figures agreed before the visit is booked: the call-out, the labour and the parts. You hear all three on the phone, nothing gets added afterwards, and the total you were given is the total you pay.
Labour is priced against the job rather than an hourly clock. If a wheel bolt has seized solid or a caliper slider fights us for half an hour, that extra time is ours to absorb, not another line added to your invoice at the end.
Parts are quoted with a choice wherever a genuine choice exists. On some cars the manufacturer’s own component really is the right answer and we will say so. On plenty of others a quality aftermarket equivalent performs identically for noticeably less, and we let you pick.
Where nobody yet knows what is wrong, the diagnosis is priced on its own, so you are never signing up to an unknown repair. Ring 01744 808586 for a figure on the call, or spread it with pay monthly car repairs in Sale.
Yes, most jobs can be completed at the kerbside on a terraced street in Sale. We bring cones, set up on the pavement side of the car wherever the road allows it, and tell you in advance if a particular repair would be safer done on a driveway instead.
Batteries, diagnostics, tyres, punctures, most electrical faults and a straightforward service are all comfortable kerbside jobs. Brakes are usually fine too, provided the car can be jacked on level ground with enough room to get a wheel off safely.
What we ask when you book is which street the car will be on and whether it is likely to be boxed in by parked cars either side. That one answer decides how long we allow and what we bring with us.
Where a job genuinely needs a lift, we say so up front and it goes to the workshop instead, with collection and return included. See mobile car repair for what gets done at an address.
Yes. Full vehicle diagnostics are carried out at your address in Sale using equipment that talks to the individual control modules, reads stored and pending fault codes, and shows live sensor data while the engine is running rather than simply reporting the light on your dashboard.
A fault code names a circuit, not a broken component. A code pointing at an oxygen sensor might be the sensor, or it might be a split hose, a wiring fault or an exhaust leak upstream of it, and the live data is what separates those.
Where the fault only appears on the move, we road test the car with the equipment connected and record what happens at the moment it occurs. Intermittent faults are easier to catch at your house than in a workshop queue.
You get told plainly what we found and what it will take to fix before anything is ordered. More detail on car diagnostics, and the same service covers Altrincham.
Yes. We service and repair Hyundai models at your address in Sale, including servicing to the manufacturer’s own schedule, and doing so does not affect a warranty as long as the correct specification parts and oils are used and the work is properly recorded.
That protection comes from block exemption rules, which in plain English mean any properly equipped garage may service your car to the maker’s schedule without your cover being withdrawn. The service book gets stamped and what went in gets written down.
Practically, the work is the same as any other make: oil to the exact grade the engine calls for, the filters the schedule asks for at that interval, then a proper look over brakes, tyres, lights and levels. Diagnostics read the Hyundai modules directly.
Ramp jobs such as a cambelt or a clutch go to the workshop and we collect the car. The same applies to every make we see across Stretford and Manchester.
Yes. We run vans working across the North West and one of them covers Sale, Stretford, Altrincham, Urmston, Timperley and the rest of Trafford, so the same service, the same pricing and the same technicians apply wherever in the borough your car happens to be parked.
There is no separate charge for one part of Trafford over another, and no minimum job size. A puncture gets the same booking process as a full service, and both get the three figures before anything is agreed.
Larger towns in the borough have their own pages with local detail on them. Smaller districts such as Sale Moor, Brooklands, Ashton-on-Mersey, Davyhulme, Partington and Carrington do not, so simply give us the postcode when you ring.
Anything needing a ramp goes to the DVSA-approved workshop, with collection and return built into the job. See mobile mechanic Stretford or Altrincham for those towns.
A battery that keeps going flat in Sale is usually one of three things: short local journeys that never replace what starting the car used, a charging system that is not putting enough back, or something continuing to draw current after the car has been locked overnight.
The numbers separate them quickly. A healthy battery at rest reads close to 12.6 volts, and anything much under 12.4 is discharged rather than dead. With the engine running the charging system should show between 13.8 and 14.6 volts.
If both of those look right, the next check is the overnight drain. A parked car should settle below roughly 50 milliamps once everything has gone to sleep, and a stuck relay or a badly fitted accessory will comfortably exceed that.
Short runs to the tram and crawls along the A56 are the common cause here. We test before selling anything, and most cars built after around 2010 need the new battery coding to the vehicle. See car battery replacement.
Brake pads wear according to how many times you press the pedal rather than how far you drive, so a stop-start commute between M60 junctions and along the A56 uses far more pad per mile than an open motorway run at a steady speed ever does.
Pads start life around 10 to 12mm thick and are finished by the time they are down to 3mm. A car in Sale doing modest annual mileage in heavy traffic can easily arrive at a service with less material left than one that has covered three times the distance.
Discs matter as much as pads. Once a disc has worn a lip at its outer edge or dropped below its minimum thickness, fitting new pads to it simply wastes the pads, so we measure both rather than judging by eye through a wheel.
We also clean and grease the caliper sliders, because a sticking slider wears one pad twice as fast as the other. More on brake repairs.
An interim service at your address in Sale normally takes around an hour, and a full service between an hour and a half and two hours depending on how many filters the schedule calls for and how easy they are to reach on your particular engine.
You do not need to be present for any of it, and you do not need to move the car afterwards. Leave the keys with us, get on with your morning, and we will let you know when it is finished and what we found.
What takes the time is doing it properly. Oil to the exact specification the engine requires, the oil, air, pollen and fuel filters wherever that interval asks for them, then a genuine look over tyres, brakes, lights, hoses and levels.
The service book is stamped and the work recorded, which keeps a manufacturer warranty intact. Cost can be spread with servicing on Payment Assist if the timing is awkward.
Yes. Pads and discs are replaced at your address in Sale as a standard mobile job, on a driveway or at the kerbside, provided the car is on reasonably level ground with enough space alongside it to get a wheel off and work safely.
Everything is measured rather than guessed. Pads are checked against the 3mm wear figure, discs are checked for a lip and for minimum thickness, and if the discs are still within tolerance we will tell you so rather than selling you a pair you do not need.
Fittings are torqued to the manufacturer’s setting with a calibrated wrench, not tightened by feel, and the caliper sliders are cleaned and greased so the new pads wear evenly across both sides.
Then we bed them in before handing the car back, because fresh pads that have never been bedded do not stop as well as they should. See brake repairs and Altrincham.
You do not need to know what is wrong. We ask what the car did when you turned the key, in your own words, along with the registration and where it is parked in Sale, and that is enough for us to load the right equipment.
Whether it was total silence, one heavy clunk, fast clicking, or an engine that spins over without ever firing tells us which system to head for. Each of those points somewhere different, and describing it plainly beats trying to name a part.
Most no-start calls are reached the same day, because the equipment and the common parts are already on board. We test the battery under load and check the charging system in the same visit rather than guessing between them.
You get the price before we set off. Ring 01744 808586 or read car won’t start in Sale for what usually causes each one.
Yes. Send us the size printed on the sidewall along with your Sale postcode and we bring the correct tyres out to you and balance them on the spot, so the wheel goes back on the car properly finished rather than left as a temporary get-you-home measure.
The legal minimum tread is 1.6mm across the middle three quarters of the tyre, but wet grip starts falling away noticeably below about 3mm, so a tyre that passes an MOT can still be well past its useful life in a Manchester winter.
Punctures within the repairable area are plugged and patched from the inside, which is the proper permanent repair, rather than being sealed from the outside. If it sits in the shoulder or the sidewall, a repair is not legal and we will say so.
Cost can be spread with pay monthly tyres or tyre finance, and the full service is on mobile tyre fitting.
A diagnostic scan reads the fault codes the car has stored and shows what its sensors are reporting while the engine runs, which together identify the circuit that is misbehaving. It names the area to investigate rather than naming the part that needs buying.
That distinction matters, because a code is a symptom. A misfire code on one cylinder could be a coil, a plug, an injector, a vacuum leak or compression, and swapping parts in that order is an expensive way of finding out which.
Live data is what narrows it. Watching fuel trims, sensor voltages and temperatures react in real time, and road testing the car with the equipment connected when the fault only shows on the move, turns a list of codes into an actual answer.
We price the diagnosis separately so you are only committing to finding out. See car diagnostics, or engine carbon cleaning where build-up is the cause.
For any work that can be completed at your address, a mobile mechanic in Sale usually works out cheaper, because there is no ramp time, no workshop bay and no courtesy car built into the figure. The larger saving is the day you no longer have to give up.
Brakes, batteries, servicing, tyres, diagnostics and most electrical and sensor work all fall into that group. The parts are the same parts and the torque settings are the same settings, so what you lose is the overhead, not the standard of the work.
Where a job genuinely needs a lift, the workshop is the cheaper option rather than the dearer one, because trying to do it kerbside would take longer and be less safe. We tell you which side of that line your job falls on.
You get the same three figures either way. For a breakdown by job type, how much a mobile mechanic costs goes through it in detail.
Yes. Repairs can be spread over three, four or six months at 0% interest through Payment Assist. On amounts up to £1,000 it is a soft credit search, which means asking about it leaves no mark on your credit file whether you go ahead or not.
To apply you need to be eighteen or over, resident in the UK, and paying by debit card in your own name. The decision comes back while you are still on the phone, so nobody is left waiting on it.
The one thing that catches people out is timing. It has to be arranged before the invoice is settled, not afterwards, so mention it during the very first conversation rather than once the work is finished.
It covers anything on this page, from a set of brakes to a full service. Details are on pay monthly car repairs in Sale, or ask when you ring 01744 808586.
Yes. Our technicians hold IMI Level 4 qualifications, which is the recognised standard for working safely on high-voltage electric and hybrid systems, so servicing, diagnostics, brakes and tyres on an electric or hybrid car are all handled properly rather than being turned away.
Electric cars wear tyres faster than most owners expect, because of the weight of the battery pack and the instant torque available from a standstill, so tread wants checking more often than the mileage alone would suggest.
Brakes behave in the opposite direction. Regenerative braking does much of the slowing, so the friction brakes are used lightly and calipers can seize from lack of use rather than wearing out. Sliders and pistons need freeing off and greasing on schedule.
Battery health, charging faults and 12 volt system problems are all read at your address. See car diagnostics, and note air conditioning work often doubles as cabin heating on an EV.
Clutches, cambelts and wet belts, gearbox work, welding, wheel alignment and MOT testing all need a ramp, proper lighting and equipment that does not travel in a van, so those go to the DVSA-approved workshop while everything else is finished at your address.
When a job falls on that side of the line, we collect the car from Sale and bring it back afterwards, so you are not left arranging transport or losing a day sitting in a waiting room.
Wet belts are worth knowing about. Unlike an old cambelt running dry behind a cover, a wet belt runs in the engine oil and sheds material into it as it ages. That debris collects in the oil pick-up strainer and starves the engine long before the belt itself breaks.
Welding is done in house by our own technicians rather than being sent elsewhere. See clutch replacement and MOT testing.
Yes. MOT testing has to happen at an approved test centre rather than at your address, so we collect the car from Sale, test it at our DVSA-approved centre on Boundary Road, and return it to you with the certificate and anything it needs explained.
A useful thing to know is that you can present a car up to a month minus a day before the current certificate expires and keep your existing renewal date. You lose nothing by testing early, and you gain time to sort any advisories.
If it does fail, you get told what failed and what it will cost before any work starts, with the same three figures as any other job. Nothing is repaired on the assumption you want it done.
Repairs arising from a test can be spread over three, four or six months at 0%. Full details on MOT testing and pay monthly car repairs.
Having your car serviced by us at your address in Sale keeps a manufacturer warranty intact, provided the service follows the maker’s own schedule, uses parts and oils of the correct specification, and is properly recorded. You are not obliged to use a main dealer.
The rule that protects you is called block exemption. In plain terms it stops a manufacturer from withdrawing your warranty simply because an independent garage did the work rather than one of its own dealerships.
What matters is the evidence. We record the oil specification and quantity, every filter changed, the mileage and the date, and stamp the service book, so there is a documented history if a claim is ever made.
Servicing intervals on modern cars are often mileage or time, whichever comes first, so a low-mileage Sale car may still be due annually. See servicing on Payment Assist.
Most jobs in Sale are reached the same day or the next, and what decides it is whether the part is already with us rather than anything else. Ring before late morning and batteries, tyres, punctures, no-starts and warning lights can usually be done today.
Brakes, servicing and anything needing a component ordered against your exact registration are typically next day. We would far rather arrive tomorrow with the correct part than turn up today with something that turns out to be wrong.
Clutches, cambelts, welding, gearbox work and MOTs get a booked slot at the workshop, with the car collected and returned as part of the job rather than left to you to organise.
We are on the phones Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 12:30pm, and the Saturday slots go quickly. Ring 01744 808586 or see mobile car repair.
We cover the whole of Sale, including Brooklands, Sale Moor, Ashton-on-Mersey and the terraced streets either side of Northenden Road, along with neighbouring Timperley, Urmston, Davyhulme, Northenden, Partington and Carrington. Give us the postcode when you ring and we will confirm the next available slot.
There is no difference in price between one part of the town and another, and no minimum size of job. A single puncture is booked the same way as a full service, with the same three figures agreed first.
The vans work across the North West, with one covering Sale and the rest of Trafford, so neighbouring towns get the identical service from the same team rather than being passed to somebody else.
Hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 12:30pm, and callouts follow the same hours. Nearby pages cover Altrincham, Stretford, Manchester and Stockport.
Mobile mechanic Sale · Before you ring us
What to have ready when you ring
Three things, and the call takes a couple of minutes.
The registration
It gives us the exact engine, the right oil specification and the correct part numbers in one go. Make and model is fine if the reg is not to hand.
What the car is doing, in your own words
What noise, when it happens, what the dashboard shows. Describing it plainly beats naming a part, because a guess sends us out with the wrong thing loaded.
Where the car will be parked
Driveway, terraced street, allocated bay behind a barrier, or a shared car park. It changes what we bring and how much time we book for the visit.
In Sale the third one carries more weight than people expect. A tram-stop street at school run time, a residents' bay with a two-hour limit and an unrestricted driveway are three quite different jobs, and knowing which we are coming to decides how long we book and what we bring.
What does not help is another garage's quote. We would rather look at the car and price what is actually wrong than work backwards from a figure attached to somebody else's diagnosis.
Mobile mechanic Sale · Give us a shout
Tell us where the car is and what it is doing
Give us the registration, what the car is doing, and whereabouts in Sale it will be parked when we come out. You get back what it needs, what the three figures are, and the next slot we can reach you in. If it turns out to be something other than we expected once we are there, you get a phone call before a spanner moves.
