Mobile mechanic North West · One team, one price list

A mobile mechanic with a real garage behind it

A job that turns out bigger than expected doesn't get handed to a stranger. Send us the registration and what your car is doing, and we'll confirm the price before we set off. The same technicians who come to you work the ramps at Boundary Road too. Timing work is always a workshop job too — see timing belt replacement and wet belt replacement if your engine runs a belt in oil.

Someone answers, usually within minutes

One reg. One honest price. Straight back to you.

Nothing to fill in twice, no queue for a callback, and no “prices from”. Put your registration in, say what the car needs, and hit send. WhatsApp opens with the message already typed, and one of the people in the Boundary Road workshop picks it up. For faults rather than parts, our auto electrician and DPF cleaning teams pick up what the van cannot finish, alongside exhaust repair.

  • ✓We look your MOT date up, so you are not hunting for the last certificate.
  • ✓A figure for your car, worked out from your reg — not a bracket.
  • ✓The next slot a van can reach you, Saturday mornings included.
  • ✓Answered by the people who do the work. Not an agency, not a call centre.

Mobile mechanic North West · How the coverage actually works

Mobile mechanic North West: same team, same prices, wherever you are

You are booking a garage that happens to come to you.

Mobile mechanic North West - Fastlane Autocare technician working on a car at a customer address

Vans go out every working day across Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Lancashire and the Wirral, and they all work to one price list. Whether the car is on a drive in Formby or in a bay outside an office in Salford, the call-out, the labour rate and the parts are quoted the same way, from the same figures, by the same people. Nobody gets a different number because of where they live. Batteries we do at your address — see battery fitting — and we look after hybrid and EV vehicles as well as petrol and diesel.

The reason that matters is boring but it is the whole point. A mobile job is only cheap and quick while it stays a mobile job. The moment a wheel has to come off with the car in the air, or a fault needs a road test on a rolling road, or a gearbox has to be dropped, the car comes to us. We already are the garage. Boundary Road has ramps, a paint booth and a DVSA-approved MOT test centre on site, so a job that changes shape halfway through changes bay, not company.

That is also why the price you get on the phone is the price you pay. We quote the call-out, the labour and the parts as three separate numbers before anybody sets off, and if the car turns out to need something different once a technician has eyes on it, you get a phone call and a new figure before a spanner moves. If the total is more than you were expecting, pay monthly car repairs can spread it, and you can talk any of it through on 01744 808586.

Six numbers that decide most call-outs

None of these are sales figures. They are the readings and measurements that settle arguments about what a car actually needs.

Mobile mechanic North West · What we finish at your address

Six jobs that never need to see a garage

These are the ones our vans carry the parts and the equipment for, and they are done where the car is standing.

Mobile mechanic North West - diagnostic equipment reading live data from a car at a customer address

Diagnostics and warning lights

Stored codes, live sensor data and a road test where the fault needs one. A code names a circuit, not a broken part, so we read the evidence before anyone spends money on components.

Car diagnostics
Mobile mechanic North West - replacement battery tested and fitted at a customer address by Fastlane Autocare

Batteries and charging

Load-tested before anything is sold, and the charging system checked in the same visit. Cars built from around 2010 onwards usually need the new battery coding to the car, and our vans carry the equipment to do it.

Car battery replacement
Mobile mechanic North West - brake pads and discs being replaced at a customer address

Brakes

Pads and discs measured with a gauge rather than guessed at, torqued to the maker’s figure and bedded in properly on a short road test. Pads start life at 10 to 12mm and are finished by 3mm.

Brake repairs
Mobile mechanic North West - oil and filter service being carried out on a car at a home address

Servicing

Oil, filters and the inspection that catches the expensive things while they are still cheap. Booked around your working week, and the service book gets stamped properly.

Car servicing
Mobile mechanic North West - new tyre being fitted and balanced at a customer address

Tyres and punctures

Read the size off the sidewall, send it over, and we bring the tyres and the balancer to you. A puncture inside the repairable area gets a proper plug and patch fitted from the inside.

Mobile tyre fitting
Mobile mechanic North West - electric and hybrid vehicle work carried out by IMI Level 4 qualified technicians

Electric and hybrid work

Our technicians hold IMI Level 4, the qualification needed to work safely on high-voltage systems. That covers servicing, brakes, tyres and diagnostics on an EV or hybrid rather than turning the job away.

EV servicing

Mobile mechanic North West · Tyres brought to you

A flat tyre, wherever the car ended up

Send us the size from the sidewall and your postcode and you get a price and a slot back. The balancer comes too, so the wheel goes back on finished rather than as a temporary fix. If the bill is the awkward part there is pay monthly tyres and tyre finance.

Mobile mechanic North West · Merseyside

Merseyside, from the docks to the dunes

Merseyside is not one kind of driving, and the faults we get called to change completely depending on which part of it you are in.

Mobile mechanic North West - Fastlane Autocare technician working on a car in Merseyside

In Liverpool and Bootle, most of the cars we see spend their lives on the street under a permit and get shuffled twice a day. That is punishing on clutches and on cooling systems, and it is why we carry clutch diagnosis equipment rather than guessing from a description. Out towards Speke and Kirkby a lot of what we look at is working vehicles on shift patterns, so early starts and Saturday mornings matter more than a mid-morning slot.

Along the coast the story changes again. At Crosby, Formby and Southport the salt in the air does something drivers rarely expect: caliper slide pins seize solid and brake pipes corrode from the outside in, years earlier than the mileage would suggest. A car that has done twenty thousand miles on the coast can need brake work before an identical one inland has thought about it. Inland from there we are out at Maghull and Aintree most weeks, and right across Knowsley at Huyton, Prescot and Whiston.

St Helens is where Boundary Road and the MOT test centre are, so the borough sees us constantly — Eccleston, Rainford, Rainhill, Sutton, Haydock and Newton-le-Willows are all covered by vans that can also get a car onto a ramp the same week if it turns out to need one. If you are not sure which of those covers your street, ring 01744 808586 and someone will tell you straight away.

Want the figure before you commit to anything?

Tell us the car, what it is doing and whereabouts in the North West it is sitting. Three numbers come back before anything is booked.

Mobile mechanic North West · The Wirral

The Wirral has its own vans out

The peninsula is a proper part of the round for us, with the same price list as everywhere else.

Birkenhead is dense terraced streets and a high proportion of older diesels, which means we see a lot of glow plug and injector faults, and a lot of cars that have had a code read at some point and never had the actual fault traced. In Wallasey the estuary air brings the same corrosion problem as the Sefton coast, so brake pipes and rear suspension components get inspected properly rather than glanced at.

Bebington and Heswall throw up a different question entirely. There are a lot of cars there still inside a manufacturer warranty, and a lot of owners who have been told, or have quietly assumed, that having the servicing done anywhere but a franchised dealer will cost them that cover. It will not. As long as the correct schedule is followed, the right specification of parts and oil are used and the work is recorded, the warranty stands, and we stamp the book accordingly. That question comes up more on the Wirral than almost anywhere else we work, and the honest answer is worth more than a discount.

Mobile mechanic North West · Cheshire

Cheshire, and the miles that quietly add up

Cheshire driving is longer, faster and more motorway-heavy than anywhere else we cover, and the wear pattern follows it.

Mobile mechanic North West - the DVSA-approved MOT bay at Fastlane Autocare on Boundary Road

Cars around Chester, Northwich and Ellesmere Port pile the miles on without ever really struggling, and that hides things. Wet belts, which run inside the engine bathed in oil, shed material as they age and it collects in the oil pick-up strainer — and a car doing steady motorway miles gives you almost no warning before that becomes an engine failure. It is the single most expensive thing we find on otherwise healthy cars, and it is why we ask about the belt on any car we service. There is more on it in our wet belt information guide.

The same is true across Warrington, Great Sankey, Stockton Heath and Burtonwood, and down through Runcorn and Widnes. High-mileage cars wear their front tyres on the outer shoulders first, so the tread depth in the middle can look perfectly legal while the edge is already down past 1.6mm. Tread has to be at least 1.6mm right across the middle three quarters of the tyre, and wet braking falls away noticeably below about 3mm, which is why we measure at three points rather than one.

If it needs to go in the air

Anything that has to be lifted properly — suspension, exhausts, clutch and gearbox work — goes onto our own ramps at Boundary Road instead of being handed to somebody else.

If it needs an MOT

The test centre is on site and DVSA-approved, so the same people who look after the car can test it. You can put a car in up to a month early and keep your existing renewal date.

If it needs welding

Welding is done in house. A corroded sill or a blowing exhaust joint that fails an MOT does not need to become somebody else’s job and somebody else’s invoice.

If it needs bodywork

There is a paint booth on site as well, so accident damage, kerbed panels and rust repairs are handled by the same business that has the service history.

If it is electric or hybrid

Our technicians hold IMI Level 4 for high-voltage work, which is the qualification legally required to work on those systems safely rather than around them.

If the bill is a shock

Payment Assist spreads it over 3, 4 or 6 months at 0%. On amounts up to £1,000 it is a soft credit search, so asking leaves no mark on your file.

Mobile mechanic North West · Did you know

A fault code names a circuit, not a broken part

This is the single biggest reason people end up paying twice. A scanner will happily tell you a code relating to, say, an oxygen sensor, and the cheapest thing anyone can do with that information is sell you an oxygen sensor. But the code only says the reading from that circuit is outside what the engine expected. A split hose, a corroded connector, an exhaust leak upstream or a wiring fault will all produce it, and a brand new sensor will produce it again a fortnight later. Reading the code is the first ten minutes of the job, not the job.

Mobile mechanic North West · Greater Manchester

Greater Manchester, where the journeys are short and the wear is not

Stop-start driving is far harder on a car than distance is, and Greater Manchester produces more of it than anywhere else in the region.

Mobile mechanic North West - Fastlane Autocare workshop and ramps supporting the Greater Manchester mobile service

Across Manchester, Salford, Eccles and Swinton, an enormous number of cars never complete a journey long enough to get properly warm. The oil never burns off the moisture it collects, a diesel particulate filter never reaches the temperature it needs to clean itself, and the battery never gets fully replaced after the starter has taken its share. It is why we see so many batteries here that are perfectly serviceable but chronically undercharged, and why we always test the charging system as well before selling anyone a new one. A battery reading under 12.4 volts at rest is discharged, and that is a completely different repair from a battery that is finished.

The same pattern runs through Stockport, Sale and Altrincham, and it gets harder again on the hills out toward Oldham, Bury and Bolton, where clutches and front brakes do a lot more work than the odometer implies. Westwards through Leigh, Golborne, Ashton-in-Makerfield and Wigan we are into mixed commuting again, and into a lot of vans. If your car is showing a light nobody has explained yet, vehicle diagnostics is the place to start rather than a parts counter.

Mobile mechanic North West · Lancashire

Lancashire, longer roads and bigger gaps between garages

Further north the towns spread out, the runs get longer, and being able to get someone to the car matters more than anywhere else we cover.

Preston and Chorley sit on some of the busiest motorway commuting in the country, and the cars show it in the way any high-mileage car does — belts, bushes and tyres reaching the end together rather than one at a time. Blackpool brings the coastal corrosion problem back with it, and adds a lot of seasonal and short-hop driving on top. In Ormskirk and Skelmersdale the mix is more rural, which usually means older cars kept longer and looked after by someone who wants telling honestly what needs doing now and what can wait until next time.

That last part is the bit we care about most. Nothing on this page changes because of which of those towns you are in. The call-out, the labour rate and the parts price are the same in Blackpool as they are in Chester, quoted the same way, before anyone sets off. If you would rather talk it through than type it, 01744 808586 reaches the workshop directly.

Mobile mechanic North West · Getting someone out

Can somebody come out today?

Often, yes. What decides it is what the car needs and what is already booked in, and you will be told honestly rather than strung along.

Same day, where we can

Batteries, punctures, cars that will not start and warning lights are the ones most likely to be fitted in on the day, because the parts and the equipment are already on board.

A booked slot that actually holds

Where same day is not realistic we give you a real slot rather than a vague window, and if something changes you get a phone call rather than a wait.

Saturday mornings too

We work Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 12:30pm, which covers most people who cannot lose a working day to a car.

If the car will not start at all, say what happened when you turned the key — silence, a single clunk, fast clicking, or it turned over and never fired. You do not need to know what is wrong; describing what the car did is enough for us to bring the right parts. Car won’t start goes through each of those, and battery drain diagnosis covers the one that starts fine every morning until one day it does not.

Mobile mechanic North West · One price list

Why the price is agreed before we set off

You get three separate numbers up front — the call-out, the labour and the parts — and none of them move without a phone call first.

Splitting it into three is deliberate. It means you can see what you are actually paying for, and it means nobody can quietly bury a bigger labour figure inside a parts price. It also makes it obvious when a job is not worth doing, and we would far rather tell you that on the phone than after we have arrived. The same three numbers are used everywhere we work, so a set of front pads costs what a set of front pads costs, whichever town you are in.

If a technician gets to the car and finds something different from what was described — and that does happen, because a description over the phone can only go so far — the work stops and you get a call with a revised figure. You can say no. Nothing is done on the assumption that you will pay for it once it is already apart. If you want a sense of the numbers before you ring, how much does a mobile mechanic cost sets out how the figures are put together.

Mobile mechanic North West · Straight answers

The questions we get asked most across the North West

Twenty of them, answered properly. If yours is not here, ring and ask — you will get the same answer on the phone.

How much does a mobile mechanic cost in the North West?

A mobile mechanic normally works out cheaper than a franchised dealer because you are not paying towards a showroom, and with us you get three separate figures before anything is booked at all: the call-out, the labour and the parts, all agreed on the phone first.

The call-out covers getting a technician and the right equipment to wherever the car is. The labour is charged at our workshop rate rather than a premium for coming out to you. Parts are priced against your registration, so you are looking at the actual component your car takes instead of a bracket.

That figure does not change according to which town you are in. The same three numbers are quoted everywhere we work, because the vans are out across the region every working day regardless.

If the total is more than you were braced for, pay monthly car repairs spreads it over 3, 4 or 6 months at 0%. For how the numbers are built up, read how much does a mobile mechanic cost, or ring 01744 808586.

What are your mobile mechanic prices, and are they the same everywhere?

Our mobile mechanic prices come from one price list that applies across the whole of the North West, so the call-out, the hourly labour rate and the parts cost exactly the same in Blackpool as they do in Chester or Stockport, with nothing added for location.

Splitting the quote into three parts is deliberate. You can see exactly what you are paying for, and it stops a bigger labour charge being quietly buried inside a parts price where nobody would notice it.

It also means we can tell you honestly when a job is not worth doing on a particular car, which is a conversation better had on the phone than after somebody has arrived and started.

Prices for individual jobs sit on the service pages themselves — brake repairs, car servicing and mobile tyre fitting all set out what is included, and you can check any of them against your own reg by calling 01744 808586.

Is there a mobile mechanic near me in the North West?

Yes — we have vans working across Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Lancashire and the Wirral every working day, and more than fifty towns in the region have their own page on this site, so there is almost certainly one already covering the street your car is on.

Coverage works as a network rather than a single operator taking whatever comes in. That is what makes it possible to offer the same slots and the same prices in Preston as in Liverpool.

The town pages are worth a look before you ring, because each one goes into what tends to go wrong locally and what we most often get called out for there.

If your town does not have its own page yet, that does not mean we are not there. Ring 01744 808586 with your postcode and you will be told straight away, or check the Manchester and Chester pages for the nearest listed coverage.

Does a mobile mechanic have to be local to me?

What matters is whether somebody is already covering your area, not how close their address is to yours. We work as a network across the North West, so the same technicians, the same equipment and the same prices reach every town listed on this page.

A lot of people search for someone within a few miles because they assume that is what keeps the price down. It is not what keeps the price down. What keeps it down is having the right part on board first time, so the job is finished in one visit rather than two.

It also means you are not limited to whoever happens to be nearest. You get technicians who work on these cars every day and who have a workshop, a paint booth and an MOT test centre behind them.

That backing is the real difference, and it is set out in full on our about us page.

How do I find a good mobile mechanic?

Ask three things: who holds the qualifications for the work your car needs, what happens if the job turns out to need a ramp, and whether the person quoting is the person doing the work. The answers separate a real garage from a booking service.

Booking platforms are common and they rank well, but they pass the job to whoever accepts it, and the person who arrives may never have spoken to you. If the job then needs lifting, it goes back to you to solve.

Our answer to all three is the same one: the technicians who come out are the technicians who work our bays, they hold IMI Level 4 for high-voltage work, and anything needing a ramp goes onto ours.

We are also AA and RAC approved, and the MOT test centre is DVSA-approved and on site. There is more on how we work in garage advice.

Do you have a car mechanic that comes to you at home or at work?

Yes, and it makes no difference to the price which of the two it is. We come to houses, workplaces, car parks and roadsides right across the North West, and the only thing we need to know beforehand is where the car is standing and whether there is room to work.

Tell us where the car is parked — on the drive, at the kerb, in a shared entry or in a bay at work — and roughly how much space is around it. That is enough for us to know what can be done there.

Workplace jobs are popular for servicing and tyres in particular, because the car sits still all day anyway and you get it back finished rather than losing an evening to it.

Servicing at your address is covered on car servicing, and tyres on mobile tyre fitting.

Which areas of the North West do you cover?

Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Lancashire and the Wirral, with more than fifty individual towns each having their own page and their own coverage on this site. Every one of them gets the same technicians, the same equipment on board and the same price list.

On Merseyside that runs from Southport down through Liverpool and across Knowsley and St Helens. In Cheshire it covers Chester, Warrington, Runcorn and Widnes.

Greater Manchester runs from Wigan across to Oldham and Stockport, and Lancashire takes in Preston, Chorley and Blackpool.

The Wirral has its own coverage too, from Birkenhead through to Heswall, and the full list of towns sits in the areas section further up this page.

Every one of those towns has a page of its own setting out what we get called to there most often, which is usually a better starting point than a general enquiry. If yours is not listed, ring 01744 808586 with the postcode and you will be told there and then whether a van covers it.

Can you get a mobile mechanic out the same day?

Often yes, particularly for batteries, punctures, cars that will not start and warning lights, because our vans already carry those parts and that equipment. What decides it is what the car needs and what is booked in, and you get a straight answer on the phone.

Where same day is not realistic, you get a proper booked slot rather than a vague all-day window, and a phone call if anything about it changes.

Jobs that need a part ordering specially, or that need the car in the air, are the ones most likely to be next day or later. We will say which yours is when you ring rather than after you have waited in.

If the car will not start at all, car won’t start covers what each symptom usually means. Ring 01744 808586 and describe what happened when you turned the key.

Are you open now, and do you work weekends?

We are open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5pm and Saturday from 9am to 12:30pm, and Saturday mornings are genuinely used for call-outs rather than kept back for the workshop, which suits people who cannot afford to lose a whole working day to a car repair.

Those are the real hours, and we would rather tell you them plainly than imply somebody is sitting by a phone at three in the morning.

If something happens outside those hours, send a WhatsApp message anyway. It sits there and gets picked up first thing, which usually means you are near the front of the queue rather than starting the conversation from scratch.

The live opening-hours indicator further up this page shows whether we are open at the moment you are reading it, and the same hours apply at the workshop for MOT testing and collections.

Where can I find a cheap mobile mechanic without cutting corners?

Keeping a repair cheap comes down to diagnosing it properly before anything is bought, which is why we quote the diagnosis, the labour and the parts as three separate figures, and why bigger bills can be spread over 3, 4 or 6 months at 0%.

Most of the money wasted on car repair goes on parts that were never faulty. A fault code names a circuit, not a broken component, so fitting the part the code mentions is a guess with an invoice attached.

We read the codes, look at live data and road test where the fault needs it, and price that diagnosis on its own so you are never signing up to open-ended work.

Payment Assist is a soft credit search on amounts up to £1,000, so asking leaves no mark on your file. It is arranged before the invoice is settled — see pay monthly car repairs.

Can you come out to a flat battery?

Yes, and the battery gets tested under load before anybody sells you one. A battery resting at 12.6 volts is healthy; under 12.4 volts it is discharged rather than dead, and we check the charging system in the same visit to find out which you have.

With the engine running, a healthy charging system reads somewhere between 13.8 and 14.6 volts. Below that, the alternator is the problem and a new battery would simply go flat again within a fortnight.

If the battery keeps going flat overnight while the charging system tests fine, something is drawing current while the car sleeps. A parked car should settle to under about 50 milliamps once everything has shut down.

Most cars built since around 2010 need a new battery coding to the car, and our vans carry the equipment for it. See car battery replacement and battery drain diagnosis.

Can you do car repairs across the North West?

Yes — general repairs are the bulk of what we do, from brakes, suspension and exhausts through to clutches, cambelts and engine work, and because we own the workshop as well as the vans, the job does not have to stop at whatever fits on a driveway.

Roughly speaking, anything that can be done safely with the car on the ground gets done where it is standing. Anything needing it properly in the air comes to our ramps instead.

You are told which of those it is when you ring, along with the figures for both, so there is no discovery halfway through that changes the price or the plan.

Welding and bodywork are both done in house as well, so a corroded sill or a kerbed panel does not have to become somebody else’s job. Start with vehicle diagnostics if you are not sure what is wrong.

Do you have a gearbox specialist in the North West?

Yes. Gearbox and transmission work is done at the workshop on ramps rather than at the roadside, and it starts with diagnosis, because a slipping clutch, a failing dual-mass flywheel and a genuine gearbox fault all feel similar from the driver’s seat and cost very different amounts.

A clutch that slips under load, a gearbox that whines in one particular gear and a flywheel that rattles at idle are three separate repairs with three very different bills attached.

Getting that wrong is expensive, so we diagnose first and quote afterwards. Where the car cannot be driven in, we can collect it and bring it back once the work is finished.

Automatic and dual-clutch boxes are covered too, including the software and adaptation side, which is very often where the fault actually lives rather than in the mechanical parts everybody assumes. See gearbox repairs and clutch replacement.

Do you work on BMWs, Kias and other makes across the North West?

Yes — all makes and models, including BMW, Mini, Kia, Ford, Vauxhall, Volkswagen, Audi, Mercedes, Land Rover and Renault. Our diagnostic equipment covers manufacturer-level systems rather than a generic code reader, which matters on modern cars where half the faults live in software rather than in metal.

That means service intervals, resets, coding and adaptations can be done properly, not just the mechanical part of the job with a light left on the dashboard afterwards.

Servicing to the manufacturer schedule, with the correct oil specification and the book stamped, keeps a manufacturer warranty intact. That is worth knowing before you assume you are tied to a dealer for the first three years.

Oil specification matters more than most people realise on modern engines, because the wrong grade will trigger faults in variable valve timing and in a diesel particulate filter long before it causes any wear.

There are individual pages for the makes we see most, including BMW specialist work and Kia servicing.

Can you look after a fleet of vans across the North West?

Yes. Fleet and commercial work is one of the strongest reasons to use a mobile service, because vehicles get serviced where they are parked overnight instead of losing a working day each. We handle scheduled servicing, MOTs, tyres and breakdowns across the whole region.

For a fleet spread over several towns, the network matters more than it does for a single car. One point of contact, one price list, and the same standard of work whichever depot or driveway a vehicle happens to be sitting on.

MOTs are handled at our own DVSA-approved test centre, with collection and return, so vehicles are off the road for as little time as possible. A van can be tested up to a month early and keep its existing renewal date, which makes scheduling far easier.

We are set up for leasing and fleet management systems as well — see commercial fleet repairs and 1link fleet maintenance.

Can you refurbish alloy wheels?

Yes, alloy wheel refurbishment is done at the workshop, where wheels can be stripped, repaired, prepared and refinished properly in the paint booth. Kerb damage, corrosion under the lacquer and the pitting that comes from road salt all need the wheel off the car to fix well.

It is one of the jobs that shows the value of having a workshop behind a mobile service. Nobody can refinish a wheel properly on a driveway, and a touched-in kerb scrape lifts again within months.

Wheels can be collected and returned, or done while the car is in for something else, which is usually the cheapest way to do it.

Corrosion on the bead seat, where the tyre meets the rim, is also a very common cause of slow air loss on older alloys, so it is worth sorting before it turns into a flat on a cold morning.

See alloy wheel refurbishment.

Can you work on an electric or hybrid car?

Yes. Our technicians hold IMI Level 4, which is the qualification required to work safely on high-voltage systems, so servicing, brakes, tyres and diagnostics on an EV or hybrid are jobs we take on rather than turn away for want of the right training.

Electric cars are heavier and produce their torque instantly, so they get through tyres noticeably faster than a comparable petrol car and need the tread checking more often.

They also brake differently. Regenerative braking does most of the slowing, which means the friction brakes are used lightly and can seize at the caliper slide pins through lack of use rather than wear.

High-voltage work aside, an EV still needs its brake fluid, cabin filter, suspension and tyres looking after on schedule, and those are all jobs we finish where the car is parked.

Both of those wear patterns are easy to catch early and expensive to ignore. See EV servicing and EV battery health checks.

What happens if the job needs a ramp?

It comes to our ramps and stays with us. Boundary Road is our own workshop with a DVSA-approved MOT test centre on site, so anything needing the car properly in the air is finished by the same business, with the same people and the same quote.

This is what the workshop behind the vans is for. A job that grows moves onto our own ramp, so the diagnosis is done once and paid for once.

We can collect the car and return it once it is done, so you are not organising lifts around it, and the MOT test centre being in the same building means a test can be done at the same time.

Nothing about the price changes because the location did. The quote you agreed still stands, and any additional work is priced and agreed with you first — on 01744 808586 or on WhatsApp, whichever suits.

Can a mobile mechanic do my MOT?

An MOT has to be carried out at an approved test centre, and ours is on site at Boundary Road, which means we can collect the car, test it, do any work it fails on and bring it back without you handing it to a third party.

It is worth knowing that you can put a car in up to a month before the expiry date and keep your existing renewal date, so an early test costs you nothing in cover.

If it fails, the repair is quoted before it is done, and it is done by the same garage that tested it rather than passed along to somebody else. Welding, brakes, tyres and emissions work are all handled in house.

Retests, advisories and what they actually mean are covered on MOT St Helens, and van MOTs on van MOT and servicing.

Will using a mobile mechanic instead of a main dealer affect my warranty?

Your manufacturer warranty stands as long as the correct service schedule is followed, the right specification of parts and oil are used, and the work is properly recorded. That is what block exemption rules mean in plain English: you can have your car serviced wherever you choose.

It is one of the most common things drivers get wrong, and it costs people money every year. A dealer stamp is not a legal requirement for keeping cover in place.

What is required is doing the job to the manufacturer’s schedule, with parts of the right specification, and having a record of it. We service to schedule and stamp the book accordingly.

If your car is on a service plan or still inside its warranty period, say so when you ring 01744 808586 and we will confirm exactly what it needs. See also car service plans.

What to have ready when you get in touch

None of this is a test. You do not need to know what is wrong with the car — these three things just let us bring the right parts first time.

The registration

It tells us the engine, the exact parts your car takes and when the MOT is due, which is most of the quote sorted before we have said anything.

What the car actually did

Not what you think caused it. Silence when you turned the key, a grinding noise on the way to work, a light that came on and stayed on — describe what happened and leave the rest to us.

Where it is parked

On the drive, at the kerb, in a shared entry or in a bay at work. It decides what can be done on the spot and what would be better on a ramp.

From those three things you will get back what we think it needs, the three figures, and the next slot a van can reach you. If it turns out to be something else once a technician is looking at it, you get a phone call and a revised price before anything else happens. Ring 01744 808586, or send it over on WhatsApp using the form near the top of this page.

Tell us where the car is and what it is doing

Give us the registration, what the car is doing and whereabouts it is sitting, and you will get back what it needs, the three figures, and the next slot we can reach you in. If it turns out to be something other than we expected once a technician is there, you get a phone call before a spanner moves.
