Mobile mechanic Halewood · What we can do for you

Mobile mechanic Halewood: what turns up, and what it can finish

Halewood was laid out with room to park, and that room is why so much of the work here gets finished where the car already stands.

The estates built after the war came with hardstanding, wide verges and a gap at the side of the house, and the newer closes off Higher Road kept the habit. That matters more than people expect. A driveway you can walk all the way round is a driveway a technician can jack safely, drop a wheel off on, and work at properly rather than crouching between two parked cars.

Mobile mechanic Halewood - car worked on at a customer address by Fastlane Autocare

Our vans carry the half of a garage that travels: equipment that talks to the control modules instead of only reading a light off the dash, a load tester for batteries and charging, jacks and axle stands, torque wrenches, brake tooling, oils, filters and the consumables for the cars we see every week. What cannot travel is a four-post lift, a wheel balancer and an MOT bay, and those live at Boundary Road.

So you are not picking between somebody who can only manage the small jobs and a garage that wants your car all day. You get whichever suits the fault, done by the same technicians. A diagnostic scan, a full service or new pads and discs all start at your address; only the lifting work moves.

Plenty of our Halewood customers came to us from neighbouring towns first. If the car lives nearer the boundary, Speke, Whiston and Huyton get the identical service and the identical three figures.

Mobile mechanic Halewood · What it costs

What you pay, and the point at which you hear it

Three figures, said out loud separately, while saying no is still an easy thing to do.

Keeping them apart is deliberate. Rolled into one total, a number tells you nothing useful. You cannot see whether the labour is heavy, the component is dear, or the call-out is carrying the rest. Split into three, each one can be looked at on its own merits and agreed or refused.

Fastlane Autocare mobile mechanic working on a car at a customer address in Halewood

Labour is priced against the job rather than a running clock. A seized bolt or a caliper that fights back costs us an afternoon, not you an extra line. The one thing that moves an agreed figure is finding a genuinely different fault, and then we stop, ring, and give you the new number before going any further.

Parts come with a choice where a real choice exists. On some cars the manufacturer’s own component is the sensible answer and we will say so plainly. On many others a quality aftermarket equivalent does the identical job for noticeably less. We tell you which is which instead of choosing quietly on your behalf.

If paying it in one go is awkward, mention it in the first conversation rather than at the end. Spreading it over three, four or six months at 0% is straightforward but has to be set up before the invoice is settled. For a breakdown job by job, how much a mobile mechanic costs goes through it in detail.

Want the figure before you commit?

Tell us the car, what it is doing, and whether it will be on the drive or at work. Three numbers come back before anything is held.

Mobile mechanic Halewood · If it will not start

If your car will not start in Halewood

You do not need to work out what is wrong. Tell us what the car did when you turned the key, and that sentence usually decides what we load.

Mobile mechanic Halewood - battery and charging system tested at a customer address

It is the call we take more than any other, and at six in the morning on a dark drive it feels far worse than it usually turns out to be. Most of these end up being the battery or the alternator, and both get measured before anything is sold to you. Where the cause is the starter, the immobiliser or fuelling, you get the finding first and the diagnosis is priced on its own, so nothing is fitted on a hunch and you never pay for a part that was not the problem. Below are the six things drivers describe to us, in the words they actually use.

Nothing at all when you turn the key

No lights, no click, no noise from anywhere. That points at power getting lost before it arrives — a flat battery, a furred terminal or a poor earth — and it is normally the quickest of the six to put right.

One heavy clunk, then quiet

Power is reaching the starter but the engine is not turning. Sometimes that is the solenoid, sometimes the motor itself, and occasionally a connection feeding it that has corroded where nobody looks.

Fast clicking, over and over

Nearly always a battery with nothing left to give. We measure the battery and the charging system together, because a good battery on a failing alternator will do exactly the same thing again next week.

It spins over but never catches

Now it is fuel, spark or timing rather than power. That is diagnostic work rather than parts work, so we price the diagnosis by itself and you are not agreeing to anything blind.

It starts on the drive but dies at the first junction

Usually fuelling, or the immobiliser refusing to read the key properly. It sounds alarming from the driver’s seat and is often among the cheaper faults to sort out.

Fine on a jump pack, dead again by morning

The battery is holding nothing overnight. Either it is worn out, or something is quietly drawing current while the car sleeps, and those two need completely different work.

A word on batteries, because it saves people money. At rest a battery in good order sits close to 12.6 volts. Much under 12.4 and it is flat rather than dead, which is a different problem with a different answer. We test before we sell, and we check the alternator in the same visit, because fitting a good battery to cure a charging fault buys a fortnight and nothing else. What to do when a car will not start and battery replacement go further into it, or ring 01744 808586.

Mobile mechanic Halewood · Worth knowing

Most cars we get called to are not worn out. They have simply never been given a proper run in their lives

A car that goes to the shops, to school and back, and no further, never gets properly hot. The oil never burns off the water it picks up standing overnight, a diesel particulate filter never reaches the temperature it needs to clean itself out, and the battery never gets long enough on charge to fully recover. It is why a low-mileage car can need more attention than one doing thirty thousand a year, and why “it has hardly been used” is not the reassurance people think it is.

Mobile mechanic Halewood · Showing our working

Everything we charge you for, you get to see

Thousands of people in Halewood work on vehicles for a living, or live with somebody who does. That raises the bar, and it should.

The complaint we hear most about the trade is not the price. It is being told something is worn out and never being shown it. A part disappears into a bin, a figure appears on an invoice, and the driver is left taking somebody’s word for it. That is easy to fix, and we would rather fix it than argue about it afterwards on the phone.

So every job is done with the evidence handed over. You get the reading before the work and the reading after it, in units you can check yourself, and the old component stays with you unless you ask us to take it away. Nobody has to know what the numbers mean to see whether they moved.

The pad thickness, in millimetres

Pads leave the factory around 10 to 12mm and are finished at 3mm. You get told what yours measured, so “they will need doing soon” turns into a number you can decide on.

The battery reading, before and after

Rested voltage first, then the load test, then the charging output with the engine running. A good system holds between 13.8 and 14.6 volts, and you see whether yours does.

The tread depth on all four

Measured across the width rather than glanced at. The legal minimum is 1.6mm, but wet stopping falls off badly under 3mm, and knowing which tyre is where lets you plan.

The actual fault code, not a headline

You get the code itself and what circuit it points at. A code names an area to investigate, so we tell you what still has to be checked before anything is ordered.

The current the car draws asleep

A parked car should settle to somewhere under about 50 milliamps once the modules shut down. If yours is pulling more, that is measurable, and we show you the figure.

The old part, on the drive

Discs, pads, filters, sensors, batteries. If you want to look at what came off, it stays with you, and we will point out exactly what was wrong with it.

None of that is a trick. It is simply what a workshop can do when the technician measuring your car is the same person who works the bays at Boundary Road and answers the phone about it afterwards. If you want the same approach on a diagnostic job, an alternator or a starter motor, ask for the readings when you book and they will be waiting for you.

Mobile mechanic Halewood · Servicing and brakes

Servicing and brakes without giving up a whole day

The car is parked for the length of the shift. That is the window we work in.

Servicing gets postponed for one reason, and it is never that people think it does not matter. It is that the appointment always lands on the morning you needed the car, and then the next free slot is a fortnight away. Doing it in the space the car was going to be parked in anyway takes the whole obstacle away.

Mobile mechanic Halewood - vehicle service being carried out at the customer's address

A service at your address is a real one. The oil is the grade your engine actually specifies rather than whatever was closest to hand, the oil, air, pollen and fuel filters go on where the schedule calls for them, and then the levels, lights, tyres and anything wearing early get looked over. The book is stamped and what went on the car gets written down.

If the car is still inside its manufacturer warranty, that stays intact. Block exemption is a competition rule that means servicing on schedule with the correct parts keeps your cover wherever the work happens, so you are not tied to a franchised dealer to protect it. Plenty of people in Halewood have been told otherwise and have paid for it.

Brakes are ordinary driveway work. Pads and discs get measured, replaced, torqued to the manufacturer’s figure and bedded in before we leave, and an electronic parking brake is wound back with the tool that puts it into the correct mode rather than forced. See brake pads and discs and car servicing.

Mobile mechanic Halewood · Work that needs a lift

When the honest answer is a ramp, not a driveway

Some work has to have the weight off the wheels. That is a reason to collect the car, never a reason to turn the job away.

Clutches and flywheels, cambelts and wet belts, gearbox internals, welding and anything needing the suspension unloaded all belong on a lift. So does an MOT, because the test legally has to take place at an approved test centre.

Ours is at Boundary Road, with our own ramps and a DVSA-approved test bay on site. We collect the car, do the work and bring it back, and arranging that is part of the job rather than one more thing for you to organise. See clutch repair, gearbox repairs and MOT testing.

Bodywork, panel repair, welding, DPF work and AdBlue system repair are all done in house rather than passed to somebody else, so ask instead of assuming. We also look after fleet and van work for businesses along the Speke Boulevard corridor, and handle carbon cleaning and DPF replacement where a filter is genuinely finished.

Not sure it can be done where the car is standing?

Send the make, the model, what it is doing and your Halewood postcode on WhatsApp. You get a straight answer on whether it can be finished where it is or genuinely needs the lift, and what each of those would cost.

Mobile mechanic Halewood · How soon somebody can be with you

Can somebody get out to Halewood today?

Often yes. What settles it is almost never the postcode, it is whether the part is already on board.

Vans work right across the North West and one of them covers Halewood. Reaching you is rarely the thing that decides the timing.

Usually the same day

Flat batteries, punctures and tyres, no-starts, warning lights and most electrical work. Ring in the morning and today is normally on.

Usually the next day

Brakes, servicing and anything where a component has to be ordered against your registration. Arriving tomorrow with the right part beats arriving today with a guess at it.

Booked in with a proper slot

Clutches, cambelts, welding, gearbox work and MOTs. These get a time at Boundary Road, and collecting and returning the car is arranged as part of it.

What we try never to do is hand you a four-hour window and hope for the best. If a job before yours has overrun, you get told rather than left watching the road. The workshop runs Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 12:30pm, and the Saturday morning slots are the first to go every week.

Mobile mechanic Halewood · Why we quote first

Why the price is agreed before we set off

Stood on your own drive with the bonnet up is the worst possible moment for anybody to start talking about money.

Most people have had that version of it once. Somebody arrives, has a look, confirms roughly what you already suspected, and only then does a figure appear — with you standing there, the car half apart, and no realistic way of saying you want to think about it. Nobody decides well in that position and we would rather nobody was put in it.

Settling it first works better for both sides. You hear the number before anything happens to the car, and you can say no at no cost. We know exactly what the job is, so the right parts are loaded and enough time is booked to finish it in one visit instead of coming back.

Where nobody yet knows what is actually wrong, the diagnosis gets priced on its own. You pay to find out, you get the answer, and then the decision is yours. Nothing is ordered and nothing is fitted until you have heard what is involved and said carry on. That is true whether it turns out to be a sensor fault or something considerably bigger.

Mobile mechanic Halewood · Out and about round here

Where we usually end up working in Halewood

Cars pick their moment badly. These are the places we get called to most around here, and what tends to be wrong when we arrive.

Halewood is two towns wearing one name. There is the old village end near the church and Higher Road, and there is the post-war overspill built to move families out of the city, laid out in long crescents with room at the front of nearly every house. The driving that goes with them is different, and so is what goes wrong with the cars.

The plant car parks and the shift change

Cars stood in one spot through a twelve-hour shift, then asked to start in the dark at the end of it. Batteries that were merely tired at breakfast are the ones that fail at clocking-off time.

The crescents and closes off Leathers Lane

Room to work at the front of the house, which is why so much gets finished here rather than booked in. Short local mileage means batteries and diesel filters are the regulars.

Halewood Village and Higher Road

Older properties, narrower frontages, and cars that only cover a few miles a week. Brakes seizing after a car has stood still for days is the one we hear about most.

Speke Boulevard and the A562

Steady dual carriageway running, which wears a car differently. Tyres, brakes and belts show it here long before the sort of faults a stop-start town round produces.

Netherley, Belle Vale and Gateacre

Estate driveways and a lot of school-run mileage. Engines that never fully warm through, and the warning lights that eventually follow, are the pattern out this way.

Halewood Triangle and the old railway line

Cars left at the park entrances while people walk the line. Coming back to one that will not start is a call we take most weekends through the winter.

Wherever the car is, we come to it, and Boundary Road picks up anything needing the ramps. If you are closer to Speke, Huyton, Whiston or Knowsley, those pages cover the same service nearer to home.

Mobile mechanic Halewood · FAQs

The questions Halewood drivers ask us most

Twenty things people ring up and ask, answered properly rather than in a sentence.

How much does a mobile mechanic cost in Halewood?

A mobile mechanic in Halewood is quoted as a fixed price before the visit is arranged, and it is made up of three separate figures: the call-out, the labour and the parts. You agree all three in advance, so the amount you hear is the amount you pay.

Splitting them apart is the point. A single total hides whether the labour is heavy, the component is dear or the call-out is carrying everything else, and you cannot sensibly agree to a number you are not allowed to see inside.

Labour is priced against the job rather than a clock, so a seized bolt costs us the extra time rather than you an extra line. The only thing that changes an agreed figure is finding a genuinely different fault, and you get a phone call before anything happens.

Ring 01744 808586 and it gets priced on the call, or read how much a mobile mechanic costs for the breakdown job by job.

Can a mobile mechanic do the same work as a garage in Halewood?

Most jobs a garage does are done at your address in Halewood: diagnostics, batteries, brakes, servicing, tyres, sensors and electrical faults. What needs a lift, a wheel balancer or an MOT bay is collected and finished at our own workshop, then brought back to you.

The dividing line is whether the weight has to come off the wheels. Pads, discs, filters, oil, batteries, alternators, starters and fault-finding are all perfectly safe on a driveway with proper jacks and axle stands, which is how they are done.

Clutches, cambelts and wet belts, gearbox internals and welding are different, and pretending otherwise is how people end up let down halfway through. Those go on the ramps at Boundary Road with the same technicians doing them.

That combination is unusual. You are not choosing between somebody with only a toolbox and a garage that wants your car for a day. See mobile car repair for what travels.

Can you come out to Halewood today?

Same-day visits to Halewood are common, and what decides it is the job rather than the postcode. Batteries, tyres, punctures, cars that will not start, warning lights and most electrical faults can normally be done the same day if you ring before late morning.

Vans work across the North West and one of them covers Halewood, so reaching you is rarely what holds anything up. What holds a job up is a component that has to be ordered against your registration before anybody sets off.

Brakes and servicing are usually the following day for exactly that reason. Turning up tomorrow with the correct part beats turning up today with a guess and having to come back a second time.

Bigger jobs get a proper booked slot instead. Call 01744 808586 and you will be told which of the three yours is, or look at mobile car repair.

My car will not start in Halewood. What happens when you come out?

Tell us what the car did when you turned the key and that one sentence decides what gets loaded. On arrival the battery is tested under load, the charging output is measured and the starting circuit is checked, before any part is suggested or sold to you.

You do not need to know what is wrong. Silence, a single clunk, fast clicking, spinning without catching or starting then dying are all different faults, and describing what you heard is genuinely more useful than naming a component.

Most of these end up being the battery or the charging system, and both get measured rather than assumed. Where it turns out to be the starter, the immobiliser or fuelling, you get the finding first and the diagnosis is priced separately.

More on it at what to do when a car will not start, or ring 01744 808586 and describe the noise.

Is my problem the battery or the alternator?

Both are measured in the same visit, because they feel identical from the driver's seat. A rested battery in good order reads close to 12.6 volts, and with the engine running a healthy charging system should hold somewhere between 13.8 and 14.6 volts.

A reading under 12.4 volts at rest usually means the battery is flat rather than finished, which is a different problem with a different answer and often a much cheaper one. Selling a battery to somebody who did not need one is easy to avoid by testing first.

If the charging voltage is low, a new battery buys you a fortnight and nothing more, because the car is not putting anything back into it. That is why the alternator gets checked every time rather than only when asked.

You get both figures written down. See car battery replacement and alternator replacement for what each job involves.

Can I get mobile tyre fitting in Halewood?

Tyres are fitted and balanced at your address in Halewood. Read the size off the sidewall, send it over with your postcode, and a price and a slot come back, with the balancer arriving too so the wheel goes back on properly finished.

The size is the string of numbers moulded into the rubber, something like 205/55 R16. Send that and the registration and there is no guessing about what fits, which matters on cars where the front and rear sizes differ.

A puncture in the repairable part of the tread gets a plug and patch fitted from the inside, which is the proper permanent repair. Damage in the sidewall or shoulder cannot be repaired safely and gets replaced instead.

The legal minimum tread is 1.6mm, though wet stopping falls away noticeably under 3mm. See mobile tyre fitting or spread it with pay monthly tyres.

Can you replace brake pads and discs where my car is parked in Halewood?

Pads and discs are ordinary driveway work in Halewood. The wheels come off on proper axle stands, everything is measured before replacement, the new parts are torqued to the manufacturer's figure and bedded in properly, and you are given the thickness that came off.

Pads start life at around 10 to 12mm of friction material and are worn out at 3mm. Being told an actual measurement rather than "they will need doing soon" lets you decide whether it is this month or after Christmas.

Discs get measured too, because a pad change onto a lipped or warped disc brings the judder straight back. If yours are still within tolerance we will say so rather than sell you a pair you do not yet need.

Electronic parking brakes are wound back with the tool that puts the caliper into the correct mode, never forced. See brake pads and discs.

Can you service my car in Halewood around a shift pattern?

Servicing in Halewood is arranged around when the car is standing still rather than when you are free to sit in a waiting room. Plenty of our work here happens while the owner is on shift and the car has not moved since it was parked.

That suits a service better than almost any other job, because it needs the car stationary and nothing else. Oil, filters, levels, lights, tyres and a proper look over the wear items all happen in the space the car was already occupying.

The oil is the exact grade your engine specifies, not a generic one, and the oil, air, pollen and fuel filters go on where the schedule calls for them. The book gets stamped and what went on is written down.

Tell us the hours that suit when you book. See car servicing, or call 01744 808586 to fix a time.

Does having my car serviced away from a main dealer void the warranty?

Your manufacturer warranty stays intact when an independent garage services the car to the correct schedule with parts of the right specification. This is protected by block exemption, a competition rule that stops carmakers tying your servicing to their own dealers to keep the cover valid.

What matters is that the work is done on time, to the schedule for your model, with oil of the specification the engine calls for and filters that meet the original standard. Get those right and the warranty is unaffected.

Keeping the evidence matters just as much. The service book gets stamped, the date and mileage recorded and the parts listed, so if there is ever a claim you can show exactly what was done and when.

A great many drivers pay dealer prices believing they have no choice. See car servicing, or ring 01744 808586 and ask about your model.

Will you show me the old parts and the readings you took?

Every reading taken on your car is given to you, and the old component stays with you unless you ask for it to be taken away. Pad thickness in millimetres, tread depth, battery voltage and charging output are all handed over as numbers.

This is the thing drivers complain about most across the trade, and it is easy to fix. A part vanishes into a bin, a figure appears on an invoice, and the owner is left taking somebody's word that the work was needed at all.

Halewood has more people who work on vehicles for a living than almost anywhere in Merseyside, so the standard of question we get asked here is high. Measuring and showing is simply quicker than arguing about it later.

Ask for the readings when you book and they will be waiting. See vehicle diagnostics, or ring 01744 808586.

Can I get an MOT if I live in Halewood?

MOTs for Halewood cars are done at our own DVSA-approved test centre on Boundary Road, and the car can be collected from your address and returned once it is finished. An MOT legally has to happen at an approved test centre, so it cannot be done at your house.

What can genuinely come to you is the preparation: lights, wipers, tyres, brakes and the small items that fail more tests than the serious faults ever do.

You can present a car up to a month before the current certificate expires and keep the same renewal date, which is worth knowing if you want the test out of the way before a busy stretch.

Anything that fails is repaired in the same building rather than sent elsewhere, and you get the figure for that work before it starts. See MOT testing or call 01744 808586 to arrange collection.

What does a diagnostic check actually involve in Halewood?

A diagnostic check at your address in Halewood reads the stored fault codes, then looks at live data from the sensors while the engine runs, and includes a road test where the fault only appears moving. The code narrows the search; the testing afterwards finds the cause.

This is where cheap code reading goes wrong. A code names a circuit or a reading that fell outside its expected range, not a broken component, so a code pointing at an oxygen sensor is very often wiring, a leak or a different sensor upstream.

You get told the actual code, what it points at and what still has to be checked before anything is ordered. Nothing is fitted on the strength of a code alone, which is how people end up paying twice.

The diagnosis is priced on its own, so you can stop there. See car diagnostics and vehicle diagnostics.

Do you work on electric and hybrid cars in Halewood?

Electric and hybrid cars are worked on in Halewood by technicians holding IMI Level 4, the qualification required for high-voltage systems. That covers isolating the battery pack safely, along with the ordinary servicing, brakes, tyres and diagnostics these cars need like any other.

Much of what an electric car needs is completely conventional. Brake fluid, cabin filters, tyres, suspension, twelve-volt batteries and software-related faults all still apply, and the twelve-volt battery causes far more no-starts than owners expect.

Brakes behave differently though. Regenerative braking means the pads do very little work, so instead of wearing out they corrode and the calipers seize, which needs cleaning and freeing off rather than replacing.

Tyres wear faster too, because of the extra weight and the instant torque available from a standstill. Ring 01744 808586 with the model and year, or see car servicing for what a visit covers.

Can I spread the cost of a car repair in Halewood?

Repairs in Halewood can be spread over 3, 4 or 6 months at 0% interest through Payment Assist. On amounts up to £1,000 it is a soft credit search, so checking whether you are eligible leaves no mark on your credit file at all.

You need to be 18 or over, resident in the UK and paying by debit card in your own name. The important part is arranging it before the invoice is settled, because it cannot be applied to a bill that has already been paid.

It covers work on this page: servicing, brakes, tyres, diagnostics, batteries, clutches and MOT repairs. Mentioning it in the first conversation rather than at the end makes the whole thing straightforward.

There is no extra charge for using it and no penalty for settling it early. See pay monthly car repairs for how it works, or tyre finance if it is tyres specifically.

What happens if my car needs a ramp?

Work needing the weight off the wheels moves to our own workshop, and the car is collected from your Halewood address and returned once it is done. Arranging the collection is part of the job rather than something you have to organise separately.

Clutches and flywheels, cambelts and wet belts, gearbox internals, welding and anything needing the suspension unloaded all belong on a lift. Doing them on a driveway is how people get hurt and how jobs get abandoned half finished.

Wet belts are worth explaining. On some engines the belt runs in the engine oil, and as it ages it sheds material that ends up blocking the oil pick-up strainer, which is why they are replaced on time rather than when they fail.

You get the price agreed before the car moves anywhere, and a call if anything found on the ramp changes it. See clutch repair and gearbox repairs.

Why does my car keep needing a new battery when I only drive locally?

Short local journeys are the usual reason car batteries in Halewood die early. A few miles to the shops and back never puts back what starting the engine took out of it, so the battery sits permanently part-charged and slowly loses its capacity to recover.

A rested battery in good condition reads close to 12.6 volts. Sitting at 12.2 or 12.3 most of the time gradually damages the plates, and by the time a cold morning arrives there is nothing left in reserve to give.

The other cause is something drawing current while the car sleeps. Once everything shuts down a parked car should settle under roughly 50 milliamps, and anything much above that will flatten a healthy battery over a weekend.

Both are measurable. Most cars built after around 2010 also need the new battery coded to the car. See car battery replacement.

My engine management light is on but the car drives fine. Do I need to worry?

A steady engine management light means the car has logged a fault worth reading soon, and it will fail an MOT while it is illuminated. A light that flashes is different and more urgent, because it usually indicates a misfire that can damage the catalytic converter.

Driving normally is common with a steady light. Plenty of faults do not affect how the car feels but do affect emissions, fuel consumption or a sensor reading the engine is relying on to run efficiently.

Reading it early is almost always cheaper. A sensor reporting a small problem is one repair; the same fault left for months while something else runs on bad information can become several.

The code is read at your address rather than the car needing to be booked into a workshop, and you are told what it points at before anything is ordered. Ring 01744 808586 or see car diagnostics.

Can somebody come out to Halewood on a Saturday?

Saturday mornings are available for Halewood, running from 9am to 12:30pm, and they are the busiest slots of the whole week so they get booked well in advance. Monday to Friday runs 8:30am to 5pm, which is when the bulk of the work happens.

Booking ahead is the practical advice. Saturday suits people whose week leaves no gap at all, which means those hours fill early and a same-week Saturday is rarely possible.

Weekdays are worth considering even if you are working, because the car does not need you present. If it is standing on the drive or in a bay, the job gets done around your hours rather than during them.

Ring 01744 808586 to check what is left this week and next, or see mobile car repair for the full list of what gets done at your own address.

Do you cover Halewood Village, Netherley and Tarbock?

Halewood Village, Netherley, Tarbock, Halebank, Gateacre, Belle Vale and the Hunts Cross side are all covered on the same booking and at exactly the same prices. Give us the street name when you ring and you will be told the next available slot.

Vans work right across the North West and one of them covers this area, so there is no separate charge, no minimum spend and no different arrangement depending on which part of Halewood you happen to be in.

Where the car is standing matters more than the postcode does. A wide frontage on one of the crescents, a narrower one down in the village, or a bay at work each change what gets loaded before setting off.

The towns either side of Halewood are covered on the same terms as well. See Speke, Huyton, Whiston and Knowsley if one of those is closer to where the car actually lives.

What do you need to know when I ring you from Halewood?

Three things make the call a quick one: the registration, a plain description of what the car is doing, and where it will be parked when we arrive. None of them require you to know anything about cars or to guess at a diagnosis.

The registration gives the exact engine, the correct oil specification and the right part numbers in one go. The make and model works if the plate is not to hand, though it takes slightly longer to pin down.

Describing it plainly beats naming a part. What noise, when it happens, whether it is cold or warm, and what the dashboard is showing tells us far more than a guessed component ever does.

Where it is parked decides what gets loaded before anybody sets off. Ring 01744 808586, or see mobile car repair for what gets finished on site.

Three things to have in front of you

None of them need you to know what is wrong. They are simply what lets the job be priced on the call.

The registration

It gives the exact engine, the correct oil specification and the right part numbers straight away. Make and model works fine if the plate is not to hand.

What the car is doing, plainly

What noise, when it happens, whether it is cold or warm, and what is showing on the dashboard. Describing it beats guessing at which part it is.

Where it will be parked

On the drive, at the kerb, or in a bay at work. It changes what comes with us and how quickly we need to be there.

The one thing that genuinely does not help is somebody else's quote. We would rather look at the car and price the fault in front of us than work backwards from a figure attached to a different diagnosis.

Tell us where the car is and what it is doing

Send the registration, what the car is doing and whether it will be on the drive, at the kerb or in a bay at work. Back comes what it needs, the three figures, and the next slot we can hold for you. If it turns out to be something other than expected once somebody is looking at it, you get a phone call before a spanner moves.
