Mobile mechanic Delamere · What we can do for you

Mobile mechanic Delamere: what we bring, and where we’ll meet you

Delamere Forest is one of the largest lowland forests left in Cheshire, and the driving around it is unlike anything a town throws at a car.

Single-track forest roads with no street lighting, deep leaf litter and standing mud through autumn and winter, deer and other wildlife crossing without warning, and long private drives that sit well back from the lane behind a gate or a stand of trees. None of that is a problem for us — it is simply what a visit near Delamere usually involves.

Fastlane Autocare mobile mechanic Delamere working on a car at a customer address

Cars living around the forest and the villages at its edge — Cuddington, Sandiway, Norley, Oakmere and Hatchmere — do a mix of short local trips and longer runs on unmade or unlit sections, and that combination shows up as gravel and mud tracked into brakes and wheel arches, corroded pipework, and batteries that give up quietly on a car left standing at the end of a long drive.

Between them, our vans hold most of what a garage bay does: proper diagnostic kit that interrogates the control modules directly instead of just flashing up a light, a load tester for batteries and alternators, jacks, axle stands, torque wrenches, the tools brake work needs, plus the oils and filters our regular jobs call for. A four-post lift, a full-size wheel balancer and an MOT bay are the three things that genuinely will not fit.

We keep it in house. Boundary Road has our own ramps and a DVSA-approved test centre, staffed by the people who drove out to you in the first place. A diagnostic scan or a full service happens where the car is parked, and only the jobs that genuinely need lifting change location. If you are closer to Northwich or Frodsham, those pages cover the same service.

Numbers behind most of the calls we take

Six figures that come up again and again once a car is actually looked at, rather than guessed at over the phone.

0separate totals on every quote: labour on one line, parts on the other
0mmbrake pad thickness that marks the point replacement is genuinely due
0.0Va healthy resting battery reading; under 12.4V it has discharged, not died
0mAroughly the ceiling for what a locked car should draw while it sits

Warning lights and diagnostics

We read the stored codes, watch the live data while it runs, and take it for a drive if that is what it takes — a fault that hides on the drive often shows itself the moment the car is moving on a forest lane.

Mobile mechanic Delamere · What it costs

What you will pay, and when you will know it

The figure lands with you before the job is booked in, labour and parts shown as two separate numbers, and it stays exactly where it was agreed.

Keeping labour and parts apart is a deliberate choice. Roll them into one total and you have no way of judging whether it is reasonable — you cannot tell if the hours are the heavy part or the component is. Shown side by side, you can weigh each one yourself rather than taking our word for a single combined figure.

Labour gets priced to the job itself, not billed by the clock. A seized wheel bolt or a caliper slider that won't budge becomes our problem to absorb, not yours to pay for. Only a genuinely different fault turning up changes the number we agreed — and if that happens, we stop and call before doing anything further.

Fastlane Autocare mobile mechanic Delamere pricing a repair at a customer address

Where a genuine choice of parts exists, you get offered it. On braking and other safety-critical items the manufacturer's own part is often the sensible call, and we'll say that outright. Elsewhere, a good aftermarket part frequently matches it for noticeably less. We explain the difference and leave the decision with you, rather than picking quietly on your behalf.

If paying it in one go is awkward, raise it in the very first conversation. Spreading the bill over three, four or six months at 0% is easy to set up, but it has to be arranged before the invoice is settled rather than afterwards. For a breakdown job by job, how much a mobile mechanic costs goes through the numbers in detail, and you can always ring 01744 808586 and ask.

Rather know the cost before anything is arranged?

Give us the make and model, what it is doing, and whether it sits on a drive, at the kerb or down a private track. We will come back with a figure before anything is booked in.

Mobile mechanic Delamere · If it will not start

If your car will not start near Delamere

You do not need to know what is wrong. Tell us what the car did when you turned the key and that one sentence usually decides what we load.

Mobile mechanic Delamere - starter and charging system being tested on a car that will not start

Of everything we get called out for, this is the single most frequent, and it feels far more baffling standing in the dark by the car than it actually is. A car refusing to start settles into one of a small number of recognisable patterns, and each pattern tells us what to load before we leave.

The battery or the charging system accounts for most of them, and both get measured before we sell you anything at all. If it turns out to be the starter, the immobiliser or a fuelling fault instead, you hear that first, with the diagnosis itself priced separately — nothing goes on the car on a hunch, and you are never billed for a part that turned out not to be the problem.

Delamere adds a wrinkle of its own here. Cars parked at the end of long, unlit drives often sit for days between trips, and a battery that was merely tired quietly finishes the job on its own. That is exactly why we check what the car draws while it sleeps, not only what the battery holds when it is running.

Total silence when you turn the key

Nothing at all — no dash lights, no click, no noise. That usually means power is not getting through in the first place: a flat battery, a corroded terminal or a poor earth connection, and it is often the fastest of the lot to sort.

A single loud clunk and that's it

Power is clearly reaching the starter, but the engine itself is not turning over. That could be the solenoid, the starter motor, or occasionally just a worn cable feeding one of them.

Rapid clicking under the bonnet

Almost always a battery that has nothing left to give. We check the battery alongside the charging system together, because a healthy battery paired with a dying alternator will repeat the exact same fault within days.

Turns over and over, never catches

This points away from the battery towards fuel, spark or timing. That calls for a proper diagnostic, priced separately up front, so you know what you are committing to before we start.

Fires up, then dies straight away

Usually a fuelling issue, or an immobiliser failing to recognise the key. It sounds alarming but tends to be one of the less expensive faults to put right.

Starts fine on jump leads, dead again by morning

The battery simply is not holding charge overnight. Either it has reached the end of its life, or something is drawing power while the car sits locked — two very different repairs with very different bills.

One thing worth knowing, because it saves people money regularly. A battery that has stood for a few hours should sit near 12.6 volts. Much under 12.4 and it is discharged rather than dead, which is a different problem with a different answer. With the engine running the charging system should show somewhere between 13.8 and 14.6 volts. We test all of that before selling you anything. More in car won’t start and battery replacement.

Mobile mechanic Delamere · Did you know

A working forest, not a park, and it drives differently

Delamere Forest is one of the largest surviving lowland forests in Cheshire, and much of the road network through and around it is single-track, unlit and canopy-covered. Come autumn, wet leaf litter builds into a slick layer that hides the camber and any debris underneath it, and by winter that same ground turns to standing mud that packs into brake calipers and wheel arches. Deer and other wildlife cross without warning, especially at dawn and dusk, which is a genuine hazard rather than a rural cliché.

Delamere railway station on the Chester to Manchester line brings walkers and cyclists into the forest most weekends, adding pedestrian and cycle traffic to lanes that were never built with a footpath in mind. None of that is dramatic, but together it wears brakes, suspension and tyres in a pattern a town car rarely sees.

Mobile mechanic Delamere · Servicing and brakes

Servicing and brakes, done where the car already stands

The two jobs people postpone longest are the two that suit a long private drive best — the car is already there.

Servicing has a habit of getting pushed back, and it's rarely because the driver thinks it doesn't matter — it's that the booked slot always seems to fall on the one day the car is needed, and out here a wasted round trip to a garage costs more time than in town. Carrying it out where the car is sitting overnight anyway removes that clash entirely.

Mobile mechanic Delamere - car being serviced on a driveway by Fastlane Autocare

A service at your address is the real thing, not a shortened version of one. Oil to the exact specification your engine is designed around, the oil filter, and the air, pollen and fuel filters wherever the schedule calls for them. Then a proper look over levels, tyres, lights, hoses and anything showing early wear, with the service record filled in and the oil that went in written down.

A lot of drivers near Delamere have been told the wrong thing here, worth correcting given how many cars out this way are only two or three years old and still on finance. Choosing an independent over the franchised dealer does not touch your manufacturer warranty. The rule protecting you is block exemption: stick to the maker’s service schedule, use parts of the right quality, keep it all on record, and your cover is untouched.

Brakes get the same treatment. Pads and discs come off, get measured in millimetres, get checked for the mud and grit forest lanes pack into a caliper, then go back on torqued correctly and bedded in properly before we leave your drive. Where a car has an electronic parking brake, the caliper gets wound back through its proper electronic sequence rather than forced by hand. See brake pads and discs, or ring 01744 808586.

Mobile mechanic Delamere · Jobs that need the ramp

The jobs that belong on a ramp, and the one test the law reserves for a test centre

Certain jobs simply need the car off the ground. That is never a reason to send you elsewhere — it is exactly why a workshop sits behind this service.

Welding, exhaust systems, gearbox internals, clutch and flywheel replacement, cambelt and wet belt jobs, anything asking for the suspension to hang free — all of it wants a lift under the car. An MOT joins that list too, not through choice but through law: the test itself can only happen at an approved centre, which is why we collect, test at ours, and return the car afterwards.

Owning the ramps is what makes that collection worthwhile rather than a hassle. Boundary Road is ours outright, DVSA-approved test lane included, so the same visit covers collection, the repair, the test if one is due, and delivery back to you — one job, not three separate arrangements you have to manage. See clutch repair, gearbox repairs, cambelt replacement and MOT testing.

Electric and hybrid cars are the other place a genuine workshop matters. High-voltage systems can only legally be worked on by someone qualified to do it, and our technicians hold IMI Level 4, so an EV or hybrid gets diagnosed and repaired here rather than being handed back. That covers hybrid diagnostics, Tesla diagnostics and EV MOT testing.

Bodywork, panel repair, welding and AdBlue system repair are all done in house, so ask rather than assuming they belong to somebody else. Prestige marques are covered properly too, including Land Rover and Range Rover engine work, and we look after fleet and van work for the farms and estates around the forest.

Mobile mechanic Delamere · How soon we can reach you

Can somebody get to me today?

More often than not, yes. It comes down to what the car needs, not how far back the drive runs.

Getting to you is rarely the sticking point. What matters is whether the right part is already on board or has to be ordered against your registration first.

Same day, most of the time

Flat batteries, punctures, tyres, no-starts, warning lights and the majority of electrical faults fall into this group. Get in touch before mid-morning and there is a good chance we reach you before the day is out.

Next day is more typical for these

Brake work, servicing and anything that needs a part ordered against your exact registration. Turning up tomorrow with the right component beats arriving today with a guess.

Slotted into the workshop diary

Clutches, cambelts, wet belts, welding, gearbox jobs and MOTs all go through Boundary Road. Picking the car up and dropping it back is simply built into that job.

What we try never to do is hand you a four-hour window and hope for the best. If something has overrun, you get a message telling you so. Workshop hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 12:30pm, and the Saturday morning slots go early because everyone wants them. If you need to be somewhere, say so when you ring 01744 808586 and we will work to it.

Mobile mechanic Delamere · Why we quote first

Why the price is agreed before we set off

Standing over an open bonnet with the diagnosis just delivered is the worst possible moment to start negotiating a price.

Most people recognise that scenario. Somebody arrives, has a look, confirms what was already suspected, and only then names a figure — car in bits, you stood there, and no real way to say you would like to think it over. Nobody decides well under that pressure, and we would rather you never had to.

Settling the number first is better for both sides. You get the price before anyone sets off, itemised into the labour and the parts once the job is confirmed, and you can say no to it at that point with nothing owed. We know exactly what the job is, so the right parts get loaded and enough time gets booked to finish it in one visit.

When the fault genuinely isn't pinned down yet, the diagnosis itself carries its own separate price. What you're paying for at that stage is an actual answer — be it a blocked DPF, carbon build-up in the intake, or something considerably cheaper than either — with the next move entirely yours to make.

Where we come out to around Delamere

The same service across the forest, the villages at its edge, and the wider Cheshire side.

Inside the forest and around its edges we come out to Cuddington, Sandiway, Norley, Oakmere, Hatchmere, Utkinton and Kelsall, along with the long private drives scattered between them. Further out we also cover Winsford and Chester, and the full picture is on mobile mechanic North West.

Mobile mechanic Delamere · Out and about

Where we end up working around Delamere

Cars pick their moment badly. These are the places we get called to most often, and what tends to be wrong when we get there.

Delamere is really the forest and a handful of villages arranged loosely around it, and each has its own way of wearing a car down. Long, tree-lined drives, unmade tracks, gravel yards and roads with no lighting once dusk comes in all do something slightly different to brakes, suspension and tyres.

The forest roads and the station

Unlit, single-track and busy with walkers and cyclists heading for Delamere station on the Chester–Manchester line. Low-speed knocks and scraped wheel trims from tight passing points are what we see most from this stretch.

Cuddington and the Chester road

Steadier commuting mileage than the forest itself, with more motorway-style wear on tyres and brakes than the short hops typical of the villages closer to the trees.

Sandiway and the A556 side

Faster through-traffic and longer daily runs. Cars here tend to arrive with worn belts and tired brakes rather than the flat batteries a short-trip car usually shows first.

Norley and Hatchmere

Quiet lanes, standing water after rain and a lot of tree cover. Corroded brake pipes and mud packed into wheel arches turn up here more than almost anywhere else we cover.

Oakmere and the lanes towards it

Long, gated entrances well back from the road, often gravel rather than tarmac. We ask for a postcode and a description of the entrance before we set off.

Long drives and isolated stretches

A breakdown down a private track with no passing traffic is a different problem to one at the kerb in a town, which is exactly why we ask where the car is before anything else.

Wherever the car is, we come to it, and the workshop picks up anything that needs lifting. If you are closer to Northwich, Frodsham or Winsford, those pages describe the same service.

Mobile mechanic Delamere · FAQs

Questions we get asked most

Delamere is a forest and a scatter of villages, not a town, so the questions here come from the phone rather than a long list — covered in proper depth rather than padded out to look bigger than it is.

How much does a mobile mechanic cost in Delamere?

A mobile mechanic near Delamere is quoted as one fixed figure before anything is booked, split into labour and parts so you can see exactly what you are agreeing to, and that figure does not move once the job is under way at your address.

The clock plays no part in the labour figure. A bolt that has seized solid, or a fitting that fights us for an extra half hour, comes out of our afternoon rather than adding a line to what you owe.

Genuine variation between cars sits in the parts. Pads or a battery for a small hatchback cost nowhere near what the same job costs on one of the larger 4x4s common out this way, so a quote pulled from your actual plate tells you far more than any generic bracket ever could.

Only a different fault turning up moves an agreed figure, and even then we call first. See how much a mobile mechanic costs, or call 01744 808586.

Do you cover Cuddington, Sandiway, Norley and Hatchmere as well as Delamere?

Delamere, Cuddington, Sandiway, Norley, Oakmere and Hatchmere are all covered by the same service, the same technicians and the same prices, whether the car is parked outside a cottage on the forest edge or on a close in one of the villages nearby.

This part of Cheshire is scattered rather than built up, so we are used to working from a postcode and a description rather than a street name everybody knows.

What changes between these villages is not the service but the driving. Long private drives, unlit lanes and forest tracks wear different parts than a tighter village layout does, and we ask what the car does day to day before deciding what to load.

If you are nearer one of the larger towns either side, mobile mechanic Northwich and mobile mechanic Frodsham describe the same standard of work, and the phone number is the same one: 01744 808586.

Is there an actual workshop behind the mobile service, or is it just a mechanic with a toolbox?

There is a full workshop behind it. Boundary Road is our own premises with ramps, a DVSA-approved MOT test centre and the equipment a toolbox cannot carry, and the technician who comes out to Delamere is the same person who works the bays there.

That matters more out here than it does in a town. A car covering forest lanes and gravel tracks needs more than a quick fix now and again, and owning our own ramps and test centre means that heavier work stays with the same people who already know the car, start to finish.

Diagnostics, batteries, brakes, servicing and tyres get finished where the car is standing, and anything genuinely needing the wheels off the ground is collected, carried out on our own premises and brought back to you as one job.

See MOT testing and mobile car repair for how that split works, or ring 01744 808586.

Can you do a full car service on my driveway near Delamere?

Yes, and it is the complete service, not a shortened version of one. Oil to your engine's own specification, the oil filter, and the air, pollen and fuel filters wherever the maker's schedule calls for them, carried out on your drive with everything recorded properly.

After the consumables come the checks that catch expensive problems early: brake pad and disc thickness measured in millimetres, tyre condition, coolant and brake fluid, hoses, suspension play, lights, and the battery and charging output.

Around Delamere that last check earns its keep. A car standing at the end of a long drive for a week between trips draws down slowly, and catching a weak battery at a service beats being stranded on a dark lane later.

You get told what was found, with a measurement attached rather than an opinion. See car servicing, or spread the cost with Payment Assist.

Will having my car serviced by a mobile mechanic void my warranty?

Your manufacturer warranty stays intact when an independent garage does the work, provided it follows the maker's schedule, uses parts of the correct quality and gets properly recorded — the rule guaranteeing that is block exemption, and it leaves the choice of garage entirely with you.

Block exemption is competition law, inherited into UK regulation, that stops a manufacturer tying warranty cover to using their own dealer network for routine servicing.

The condition attached is simply that the job is genuinely done right: correct oil grade, the filters the schedule specifies, the intervals followed, and a written record kept of what was done and when.

Plenty of cars around Delamere and the surrounding villages are still under warranty or tied into a finance agreement, so ask us outright and you will get a straight, honest answer either way. See what a service includes, or call 01744 808586.

Can you MOT a car that lives near Delamere Forest, or does it have to be driven somewhere?

An MOT test legally has to happen at an approved test centre, so we collect the car from near Delamere, test it at our own DVSA-approved centre, and bring it straight back to you rather than leaving you to sort that leg out yourself.

That is the one job in this whole page that cannot be done at the roadside, by us or by anybody else, and it is worth knowing that plainly rather than being told something vaguer.

Because the test centre is ours, a failure does not mean starting again somewhere new. Whatever needs putting right gets done on the same premises, by the same people who collected the car, and it goes back through the test before it comes home.

You can present a car up to a month before the current certificate expires and keep the same renewal date. See MOT testing and EV MOT.

How much is mobile tyre fitting near Delamere?

Mobile tyre fitting near Delamere is priced per tyre against the exact size printed on your sidewall and the brand you choose, with that figure agreed before we come out. We bring the balancer, so the wheel goes back on finished rather than needing a second visit.

Send the size over as it appears on the tyre, something like 205/55 R16 91V, along with your postcode, and you get options back, usually a budget, a mid-range and a premium tyre, with the difference explained.

Forest lanes and gravel tracks are hard on sidewalls as well as tread, so we check both carefully, not just the depth across the middle of the tyre.

Legal minimum tread is 1.6mm across the central three quarters, though wet grip falls away noticeably below about 3mm. See mobile tyre fitting and pay monthly tyres.

My car picked up a puncture on one of the forest lanes — is that repairable?

Often, yes. A puncture in the central three quarters of the tread from a stone or a nail can usually be repaired properly with a combined plug and patch fitted from the inside, rather than needing a whole new tyre fitted on the spot.

What decides it is where the damage sits, not how it happened. Damage in the sidewall or right at the shoulder cannot be repaired safely on any tyre, on forest gravel or anywhere else, and we will tell you honestly if that is what we find.

Deep leaf litter in autumn and standing mud after rain both hide sharp stone chippings washed off the unmade sections, which is why punctures out here tend to come in after wet weather rather than dry spells.

Send your size and your postcode over and we will bring what is needed. See mobile tyre fitting, or ring 01744 808586.

My car will not start at home near Delamere — can you come out today?

Usually, yes. A car that will not start is normally a same-day job, because the causes we see most often are ones our vans already carry the parts and the test equipment for. Ring before the middle of the morning for the best chance of same-day cover.

You do not need to work out what is wrong first. Tell us what the car did when you turned the key — silence, a single clunk, fast clicking, or spinning over without firing — and that alone tells us a great deal.

Most turn out to be the battery or the charging system, and both get measured before anything is sold. A rested battery should read around 12.6 volts, and the charging system should show between 13.8 and 14.6 volts with the engine running.

A long, unlit drive at the end of a bad day is not somewhere you want to be stuck. See car won't start, or call 01744 808586.

How do I know if I need a new battery or a new alternator?

Testing settles it properly, done on the driveway in a couple of minutes. A battery that has stood for a few hours should read about 12.6 volts at rest, and with the engine running the charging system should push that to somewhere between 13.8 and 14.6 volts.

If the resting reading is low but charging is healthy, the battery is the weak link. If the battery holds up but the charging voltage stays flat, the alternator or its belt is the problem, and a new battery would only mask that briefly.

There is a third cause worth knowing about. A locked, sleeping car should settle to under roughly 50 milliamps of draw. Anything higher, often a badly wired dashcam or tracker, will flatten a good battery overnight, which shows up fastest on a car left parked for days at a time.

See mobile battery fitting and battery replacement.

Can you find an electrical fault, including on prestige makes like Jaguar or Land Rover?

Yes — prestige marques are precisely where good diagnostic kit justifies itself, since these cars have dozens of modules constantly communicating with each other. Rather than pulling a single code and guessing, we pull live data from across the whole network to see what's actually happening.

A surprising number of supposed Jaguar or Land Rover "electrical faults" aren't failures at all. A weak battery or a dodgy earth connection can trigger a cascade of unrelated dashboard warnings, sending an owner off chasing problems that were never really there.

Our approach starts at the supply and the earth points, moves to what individual modules are actually reporting, then finishes with a road test — essential here, since a fault provoked by a rough forest track rarely shows itself sat still on a driveway.

See Land Rover engine repair and car diagnostics for more on how that works.

Do you work on all makes, including 4x4s and older diesels common around Delamere?

Every make and model gets covered, whether that's a run-of-the-mill Ford or Vauxhall, something further up the range like BMW, Audi, Jaguar or Land Rover, or one of the 4x4s and older diesels that cope far better with private drives and forest tracks than a low-slung car ever will.

Our diagnostic tooling reaches into manufacturer-specific systems, not merely the generic emissions codes a cheap reader picks up, which counts for a lot on the older diesel engines still doing plenty of miles on this side of Cheshire.

Servicing is done to each manufacturer's own schedule and oil specification rather than a one-size-fits-all routine, and that matters more on a diesel doing mixed lane and motorway miles than it does on a car kept to short town trips.

Vans and light commercials working the farms and estates around here are looked after the same way. See fleet repairs and mobile car repair, or call 01744 808586.

Can you work on an electric or hybrid car near Delamere?

Yes, absolutely. Every technician carries IMI Level 4, the qualification the law requires for anyone working safely on a high-voltage system, so electric and hybrid cars near Delamere get diagnosed, serviced and repaired here rather than being turned away or shipped off elsewhere.

A good chunk of EV and hybrid work is nothing exotic: tyres, brakes, suspension components, cabin filters, the small twelve-volt battery, and faults traced back to software. None of that touches the high-voltage system, so it all happens at your address exactly as it would on a petrol car.

Where the qualification counts is anything touching the traction battery, the inverter or the charging system, and putting the car into a safe state before that work starts. Attempting that without training is genuinely dangerous.

One thing worth knowing: EVs are heavy on tyres, yet regenerative braking uses the friction brakes so lightly that calipers can seize from lack of movement. See EV diagnostics and hybrid diagnostics.

Can you regas the air conditioning at my house near Delamere?

A regas itself happens back at the workshop rather than on your drive, since it needs recovery and recharging kit that has to be precisely calibrated and weighed. What we absolutely can do at your address is work out why the system has stopped blowing cold in the first place.

That diagnosis matters, because refrigerant does not simply get used up over time. If a system is low, it has leaked somewhere, and refilling it without finding the leak means you will be back in the same position within a year, having paid twice.

We look for the leak first, most often at the condenser, the pipe unions or the compressor shaft seal, and you get told what fixing it involves before any gas goes in.

Newer cars use R1234yf refrigerant rather than the older R134a, which affects the cost. See air con diagnostics and air con regas.

A warning light has just come on — what should I do?

The colour dictates how fast you need to react. Red means find somewhere safe and turn the engine off straight away, since it's normally oil pressure, coolant temperature or the brakes. Amber simply means a fault has been logged and is worth looking at soon, without stopping you driving on.

There's one exception to that amber rule: a flashing engine management light. A flash rather than a steady glow means the engine is misfiring hard enough to damage the catalytic converter, and pressing on turns a cheap fix into a costly one fast.

When you ring, tell us the colour, the symbol if you recognise it, and whether the car is driving any differently. On a rural run, that last detail matters, because a fault that only shows up under load on an incline reads differently to one that is there all the time.

See car diagnostics, or call 01744 808586.

Can you change brake pads and discs that have picked up mud and grit off the forest roads?

Yes, and it's specifically what we look for on cars from around Delamere: mud packed behind the caliper, grit along the disc edge, not just how much friction material is left on the pad. Every measurement gets taken, the parts get replaced, torqued correctly and bedded in before the car leaves your drive.

A new pad typically starts life somewhere around 10 to 12mm thick, and most manufacturers call it done nearer 3mm. Taking the actual reading tells you where you genuinely stand instead of leaving it to a guess.

Standing water and grit off unmade lane sections eat into discs and brake pipes faster than ordinary town driving ever does, so a set that reads fine at a glance can be considerably thinner once measured properly.

An electronic parking brake needs its caliper stepped back through the correct sequence — forcing it by hand ruins the motor. See brake repairs and pads and discs.

Can you replace a cambelt or a wet belt at my house?

Belts are collect-and-return work rather than driveway work. We pick the car up from Delamere, do the job properly at Boundary Road with the engine locked to correct timing marks, and bring it home finished — the mounts usually need loading off too, which a drive genuinely cannot support.

A cambelt has both a mileage figure and an age figure attached to it, and it's the age figure that catches people out on cars doing shorter runs between the villages rather than racking up motorway miles.

Wet belts are a different animal entirely, running submerged in engine oil. As they age they shed fragments that clog the oil pick-up strainer and starve the engine of lubrication — a failure that costs vastly more than the belt on its own.

Doing the water pump and tensioner in the same visit is almost always worth it, since you're already paying for the labour to get in there. See wet belt symptoms and cambelt replacement cost.

Can I spread the cost of a car repair over a few months?

Yes — Payment Assist splits a repair bill into 3, 4 or 6 monthly payments and adds nothing to what you owe. Under £1,000 the check is a soft credit search only, meaning finding out whether you're eligible never shows up on your credit file.

Eligibility is straightforward: 18 or older, living in the UK, and settling up with a debit card that's in your own name. The whole application runs in minutes, answered while the call is still going.

Where people trip up is the timing. Set it up before the invoice gets paid, not after — raise it the moment you first ring rather than once the job is already finished and settled.

Servicing, brakes, tyres, belt jobs and diagnostic work are all covered under it, whatever the car is doing near Delamere. See pay monthly car repairs, or ask when you call 01744 808586.

My car is parked well back down a long private drive near Delamere — does that make a difference?

Tell us when you book and it makes no difference to whether we come, only to what we plan for. Long, unlit drives set well back from the lane are ordinary around Delamere, and our vans are used to working somewhere that has no street lighting once the light goes.

What we ask for is simple: a postcode, a description of the entrance if it is not obvious from the road, and roughly how far back the car sits. That is enough to plan the visit properly.

Gated entrances, gravel surfaces and a car parked under trees are all normal out here, and none of them change the price of the job itself, only how we get set up when we arrive.

If the car needs collecting for workshop work, the same arrangement applies. See mobile car repair, or call 01744 808586 to talk it through.

What are your opening hours, and can you come out on a Saturday?

We are open Monday to Friday from 8:30am until 5pm, and Saturday mornings from 9am until 12:30pm. Saturday slots are the most requested of the week and tend to be taken several days ahead, so booking early in the week is the way to secure one.

If a Saturday morning is the only realistic window for you, ring earlier in the week and ask us to hold a slot rather than leaving it until Friday afternoon and hoping one is still free.

During the week, jobs needing a part ordered against your registration are better booked a day ahead. Batteries, tyres, punctures, no-starts and warning lights are usually manageable on the day you ring.

Anything needing the ramp or an MOT gets a workshop slot, with collection and return built into the job. Call 01744 808586 to check availability, or see how our MOT testing works.

Mobile mechanic Delamere · How a visit works

What actually happens on the day

Nothing hidden and nothing sprung on you at the end — three stages, and you always know where things stand.

Before we set off

The job gets priced against your registration and confirmed with you, the right parts go on board, and you get an actual time rather than a vague half-day window. Running late anywhere earlier means you hear about it before you're left wondering.

Once work is under way

Stand and watch if you want, ask whatever you like, and the parts that came off stay with the car so you can see them. Anything unexpected stops the job outright, and you get a call with a revised figure before another spanner turns.

When it's done

You hear exactly what was replaced, what was measured, and anything worth watching, backed by figures rather than a guess. The service record gets filled in, and if something else needs the ramp, it can be booked in there and then.

A quote from somewhere else genuinely does not help us help you. We would always rather look at your actual car and price the fault sat in front of us than try to reverse-engineer a figure attached to a different diagnosis on a different vehicle entirely.

Tell us where the car is and what it is doing

Get in touch with the registration, a plain description of what the car is doing, and whether it sits on a drive, at the kerb or down a private track near the forest. We will come back with what it needs, the labour and parts figure, and the soonest we can reach you. Find something different once we are stood at the car and you hear about it by phone before we go any further.
