Mobile mechanic Bromborough · Straight answers, before you book
Cars that stand still all day, and vans that never get a day off
A van or car that won't start at the start of a Bromborough shift costs you the day, not just the repair. Send us the registration and where it's parked — the Croft, Dock Road, anywhere on the estates — and we'll confirm the price and arrival time before we set off.
Send the plate over and a firm figure comes back.
No forms, no callback queue, no “prices from”. Put in your registration, say what the vehicle needs, and hit send. WhatsApp opens with the message already written, and somebody in the workshop reads it rather than an inbox.
- ✓Your MOT expiry date looked up while we are at it, so nothing creeps up on you.
- ✓A price for your vehicle, worked out against the registration — not a bracket.
- ✓The next free slot, Saturday mornings up to 12:30pm included.
- ✓Read by the people who do the work. Never a call centre.

Mobile mechanic Bromborough · What we can do for you
Mobile mechanic Bromborough: what we carry, and what has to go on a ramp
Most of Bromborough has somewhere to put a car. The harder question here is usually not the drive — it is whether the car can be spared at all, and when.
A lot of vehicles round here are working vehicles. A van sitting on the Dock Road estates is not just transport, it is somebody’s week, and a day at a garage costs more than the repair does. The same goes for a car parked up at the Croft or outside a unit while its owner is on shift: nobody wants to book a day off to sit in a waiting room. Doing the work where the vehicle already is takes that problem away entirely.

Then there is Port Sunlight, which is a different proposition again. It is a conservation village of listed model housing, the cottages were finished long before anyone here owned a car, and the service lanes behind them are narrow. Cars live on the road because there is nowhere else for them to live. Bromborough Pool has the same shape to it. So when you ring, tell us where the car is parked — on the drive, at the kerb, in a works car park or on a yard — and we will know how much room to plan for and what to bring.
There is a great deal aboard our vans. Equipment that interrogates each control module in turn rather than just naming a light; a proper load tester for batteries and alternators; jacking gear and stands; torque wrenches; the brake tooling; and the oils, filters and small parts that the vehicles round here get through. What will not travel is a four-post lift and a wheel balancer for the heavy end of the work.
That is why the workshop matters. You are not choosing between somebody who can only manage the small jobs and a garage that wants your vehicle for a day — you get whichever the fault needs, from the same technicians. A diagnostic scan, a full service or a set of pads and discs all start where you are parked. Only the lifting jobs move.
Mobile mechanic Bromborough · Figures we quote most
The measurements behind most of these jobs
Six numbers we end up repeating on Bromborough driveways and estate car parks more than any others.
Mobile mechanic Bromborough · On the drive or at work
Six jobs we finish where the vehicle is standing
All six get done at your address, your yard or your car park at work. Anything heavier is collected and comes back sorted.

Diagnostics and warning lights
Stored codes, live sensor readings and a road test where the fault only shows itself moving. A code points at a circuit, not at a broken part, so the evidence gets read before anybody spends money.
Vehicle diagnostics
Batteries and charging
Tested under load before a penny is spent, with the alternator output checked at the same time. A tired battery and a failing charging system feel exactly the same from the driver’s seat.
Mobile battery fitting
Brakes
Pads, discs and the grinding that turns up just after the squeal stops being funny. Measured in millimetres, never estimated, then torqued to the correct figure and bedded in before we pack away.
Brake repairs
Servicing
Oil to your own engine’s specification, filters, and the checks that catch expensive faults while they are still cheap. Booked round your shift, and the service book is stamped before we go.
Car servicing
Tyres and punctures
Read the size off the sidewall and send it across; the tyres and the balancer arrive together. Punctures inside the repairable zone get a proper plug-and-patch fitted from within the casing.
Mobile tyre fitting
Vans and work vehicles
Servicing, brakes, batteries and diagnostics on the vehicles that cannot afford a day off. Done at the yard or the unit, and out of hours where a van is needed on the road at seven.
Fleet and commercial repairsMobile mechanic Bromborough · Tyres where you are parked
Picked up a flat in the car park at work?
Send the size off the sidewall and your postcode, and a price and a slot come back. The balancer travels with us, so the wheel goes back on finished rather than as something to sort out later. If the cost is what is stopping you, there are pay monthly tyres and tyre finance.
Mobile mechanic Bromborough · What it costs
What it will cost you
Three figures, given to you separately and settled before anything is agreed: the call-out, the labour and the parts.
They stay apart on purpose. One rolled-up total tells you nothing useful — you cannot see whether the hours are heavy, the component is dear, or something else entirely is doing the damage. Split into three, you can judge each line for what it is and say yes or no knowing exactly what you are saying it to.
Labour is priced against the job rather than a running clock. If a wheel bolt has rusted solid or a caliper slider has to be fought free, those extra minutes belong to us and not to your invoice. The figure agreed on the phone is the figure on the bill. The only thing that changes it is finding a genuinely different fault, and when that happens we stop, ring you, and give you the new number before anything else is touched.

Parts come with a choice wherever a real choice exists. Some engines genuinely want the manufacturer’s own part, and we will tell you that. On plenty of others a good aftermarket equivalent does an identical job for a fair bit less. You are told which is which and you pick, instead of one number landing on the bill with the decision already taken for you.
If settling it in one go is awkward, say so during the first conversation rather than at the end. Spreading the repair over three, four or six months at 0% is straightforward, but it has to be arranged before the invoice is paid rather than afterwards. For a breakdown job by job, how much a mobile mechanic costs works through it properly.

Want the figure before you commit?
Tell us the vehicle, what it is doing, and whether it will be on a drive, at the kerb, in a works car park or on a yard. Three numbers come back before anything is booked.
Mobile mechanic Bromborough · If it will not start
If your car will not start in Bromborough
You do not need to diagnose it yourself. Describe what happened when you turned the key — that single sentence normally settles what gets loaded before anybody leaves.

It is the call we take more than any other, and around here it lands at a particular time of day. A car that has stood in a car park since half seven in the morning gets discovered at half four in the afternoon, which is precisely when most garages are thinking about locking up. So we will want to know what the dashboard did, what sound came out of the engine bay, and whether the second attempt behaved any differently.
Those three answers narrow it a long way before a date is even set. The great majority come back to the battery or the charging system, and both are measured before either gets blamed. If the culprit is really the starter motor, the immobiliser or fuelling, you hear that finding first and the diagnosis carries its own price, so nothing is fitted speculatively and you never pay for a part that was innocent. Below are the versions of it we hear described most often.
Nothing happens at all
No lights, no noise, no click. That is a power problem — a flat battery, a furred terminal or an earth that has given up — and it is usually the quickest of the lot to put right.
One heavy clunk, then silence
Current is getting to the starter but the engine is not turning. Sometimes the solenoid, sometimes the motor itself, occasionally a corroded main feed that can no longer carry the load.
Rapid clicking when you turn the key
Nearly always an empty battery. Battery and charging system are tested as a pair, since a new battery hung off a failing alternator will be back in the same state inside a fortnight.
It turns over but never fires
That points at fuel, spark or timing. It is diagnostic work rather than a parts swap, priced separately so you are never signing a blank cheque.
It fires up, then cuts straight back out
Usually fuelling, or an immobiliser that is not reading the key properly. It sounds far more serious than it is, and it is often one of the cheaper faults on this list.
Fine on jump leads, flat again by morning
The battery is holding nothing while the vehicle sleeps. Either it is worn out or something on board is still drawing current, and those are two completely different repairs.
One thing worth knowing before anybody sells you a battery. A healthy one reads about 12.6 volts at rest; drop much below 12.4 and it is flat rather than finished, which calls for something quite different. Running, the charging system ought to be delivering 13.8 to 14.6 volts. Left overnight, a sound car settles below roughly 50 milliamps of draw, and well above that means a component is staying awake and quietly emptying it. We measure all three. More in car won’t start Bromborough, mobile battery fitting and alternator replacement.
Mobile mechanic Bromborough · Did you know
A car that stands all day and then does four miles is having a hard life
It sounds like the easy option, and mechanically it is close to the worst one. A short run never gets an engine properly hot, so water and unburnt fuel stay in the oil instead of boiling off, and a diesel particulate filter never reaches the temperature it needs to burn itself clean. Meanwhile a car standing in a car park through a full shift is doing nothing to replace what starting it used, so the battery slowly loses ground week by week. Two miles to a unit on the estate, eight hours parked, then two miles home is a pattern that fills a filter and flattens a battery long before the mileage suggests either should be a problem.
Mobile mechanic Bromborough · Servicing and brakes
Servicing and brakes done round a shift, not instead of one
The two jobs people leave longest are the two that suit a driveway or a works car park best.
Handing over a whole day for a service is nobody’s idea of a good one. That is why they drift — not from any doubt that they matter, but because the one appointment going always falls on the morning you could least spare. Having it done where the car was parked anyway removes the problem completely. The car is there at nine, it is there at five, and it has been serviced somewhere in between.

A service done at your address is a full one. Oil matched to the grade and specification your engine was built around, not whatever general-purpose drum happened to be closest. Oil filter, air filter and pollen filter, plus a fuel filter if the schedule calls for one. Then the walk round: levels, tyres, lights, wipers and anything wearing early. Everything used is listed and the book is stamped.
Brakes are the same kind of work. Pads and discs are ordinary driveway or car park work. They come off, get measured, go back on to the correct torque and are bedded in before we leave. A pad carries something like 10 to 12mm of material when new and is spent at 3mm, so you are handed the figure and can judge for yourself how close to the limit you sit. Electronic parking brakes are retracted through the car’s own service mode instead of being clamped back by force. See brake repairs and brake pads and discs.
Mobile mechanic Bromborough · Everyday makes
A main dealer is not your only choice, and it never was
Ford, Vauxhall and Hyundai are the makes we get asked about most around Bromborough, and the question underneath is almost always the same one: will going elsewhere cost me my warranty?
It will not. European block exemption rules — the law that stops a manufacturer tying you to its own network — mean that as long as a car is serviced to the maker’s own schedule, at the right intervals, using parts of the correct quality, and it is all recorded properly, your warranty stays intact wherever the work is carried out. You are entitled to have your three-year-old Corsa, Focus or i20 looked after by whoever you choose, and nobody can void your cover for it. A great many people pay dealer money for years because they were never told that plainly.

What we do differently is keep the record straight. The schedule your car is on is followed, the parts used are named on the invoice, the oil specification is recorded, and the service book is stamped and dated. If you ever need to lean on the warranty, that paperwork is what settles the argument, and it is worth more than anybody’s reassurance over the phone.
The everyday makes also have their own well-known weak points, and knowing them saves money. Small modern petrol engines from several manufacturers use a wet belt, which runs inside the engine bathed in oil and sheds material into the oil pick-up strainer as it ages. Diesels that only do short runs block their particulate filters. Both are far cheaper caught early than late. See Ford servicing, Vauxhall specialists, Hyundai service and repair and wet belt symptoms.
Mobile mechanic Bromborough · Jobs that need the ramp
When the vehicle has to come to us instead
Some work needs all four wheels off the ground and the suspension hanging free. That is not a reason to turn a job down — it is a reason to collect the vehicle and finish it properly.
A ramp is required for clutches and dual-mass flywheels, cambelts and wet belts, gearbox internals, welding, and any job where the suspension has to hang free. So does an MOT, because by law a test has to happen at an approved test centre.
Ours is at Boundary Road, with a DVSA-approved test centre on the same site. We collect the vehicle, carry out the work and bring it back, and that collection is part of the job rather than another problem handed back to you. Everything is priced before it moves, so you are never signing up to an open-ended bill on work you cannot stand and watch. See clutch repair, gearbox repairs, cambelt replacement costs and MOT testing.
Bodywork, panel repair, welding and AdBlue system repair are all handled in house rather than farmed out, so ask rather than assuming they are somebody else’s job. For the businesses on the Bromborough estates we also look after fleet and commercial vehicles and 1link fleet maintenance, and there is Land Rover engine work where it is wanted. Rust repairs go through our own welding bay.
Not sure it can be done where the vehicle is parked?
Message us the make, the model, a line on what it is doing and your Bromborough postcode. We will tell you straight whether it can be completed on the spot or whether the wheels have to come off the ground, and what each of those costs.
Mobile mechanic Bromborough · How soon we can be there
Can somebody come out today?
Frequently, yes. The deciding factor is hardly ever the address — it is whether the part your vehicle needs is already loaded.
Getting to you is rarely the hold-up. The question is whether the part is one we carry as stock or one that has to be ordered against your registration.
Usually same day
Flat batteries, punctures, tyres, no-starts, warning lights and the bulk of electrical work. Catch us before late morning and today is usually achievable.
Usually next day
Brakes, servicing and any job where a component has to be ordered against your exact registration. Turning up tomorrow with the correct part beats turning up today with an approximation.
Given a proper slot
Clutches, cambelts, wet belts, welding, gearbox work and MOTs. These are booked into the workshop, with collection and return built into the price.
The one thing we will not do is hand you a four-hour window and hope for the best. If the job before yours overruns, a message goes out rather than leaving you to guess away an afternoon. Hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 12:30pm. Saturday mornings are the busiest slot of the week and they go early, so if a weekend suits you better, ask sooner rather than later.
Mobile mechanic Bromborough · Payment Assist
Spread a bill that turned up without warning
Every job described here can be paid across 3, 4 or 6 months with no interest added. Below £1,000 the check is a soft search, so finding out where you stand marks nothing on your record.
Mobile mechanic Bromborough · Why we quote first
Why the price is agreed before we set off
Money is the last thing anybody should be discussing while stood over their own open bonnet.
Most people have had a version of it. Somebody turns up, takes a look, tells you roughly what you had already worked out, and only then does the number land — you on the pavement, the car in pieces, and no comfortable way to say you would rather sleep on it. Nobody decides well from there, and we would sooner not put anyone in that spot.
Settling it first works better both ways. You hear the figure before anything happens to the car, and you can say no at no cost. We know exactly what the job is, so the right parts get loaded and enough time is booked to finish it in one go rather than coming back a second time.
When the fault has not been identified yet, finding it is charged as its own piece of work. Whatever it proves to be — a blocked diesel particulate filter, carbon build-up in the intake, or something a great deal cheaper — you hear the answer and the next move is yours. No part is ordered and no spanner comes out until you have said carry on.

Where we come out to around Bromborough
The same service across Bromborough and right along this side of the Wirral.
Within Bromborough itself we come out to Bromborough Pool, Brookhurst, Poulton Lancelyn, Raby Mere, Eastham, Spital, Port Sunlight and New Ferry, along with the industrial estates off the Dock Road and the units around Croft Retail Park. Give us a postcode and a slot comes back.
Our vans cover the North West and one of them works this stretch of the Wirral, so no corner of Bromborough is charged more than another. If you are closer to Bebington, Ellesmere Port or Birkenhead, those pages cover the same service.

Where we end up working in Bromborough
Vehicles pick their moment badly. These are the places we get called to most around Bromborough, and what is usually behind it.

Bromborough is really three towns sharing a name. There is the working half — the estates, the units and the yards, where the vehicles are tools and downtime costs real money. There is the retail and commuter half around the Croft and the station, where cars sit still for eight hours at a stretch. And there is the old village side, Port Sunlight and Bromborough Pool, laid out for people on foot with the cars arriving a century later.
The driving pattern matters as much as the parking does. Plenty of people here do very little mileage in the week and then a long run down the M53 or across to Liverpool at the weekend. Neither extreme is kind to a car. Short journeys never get an engine hot enough to clear moisture out of the oil or soot out of a filter, while queueing traffic sits heavy on a clutch and hot on brakes.
The estates off the Dock Road
Vans, pickups and works cars that cannot be spared for a day. Servicing, brakes and batteries done at the unit, and the vehicle is still earning the next morning.
Croft Retail Park and the car parks round it
Cars left standing through a full shift. A battery that died at eight in the morning is not discovered until home time, which is exactly when most garages are shutting.
Port Sunlight and the service lanes
Narrow roads in a conservation village, listed frontages, and nowhere to put a recovery lorry. Most of what goes wrong here gets finished at the kerb without blocking anybody in.
Bromborough Pool village
Another set of terraces built long before cars, with parking wherever it can be found. Batteries, brakes and no-starts make up most of it, and space is always the first thing we ask about.
Eastham, Spital and the station
Cars parked up while somebody is on a train or a shift. Cold, damp and unused is the combination that finds a tired battery or a sticking caliper first.
New Chester Road and the M53 junction
Commuting miles show up as tyres, brakes and belts rather than town faults. Stop-start queueing wears a clutch in a completely different way to a steady motorway run.
Wherever the vehicle is, we come to it, and the workshop takes on anything that has to be lifted. If you are nearer Bebington, Ellesmere Port, Heswall or Chester, those pages cover the same service closer to home.
Mobile mechanic Bromborough · FAQs
Questions we get asked most
The ones that come up on the phone most days from Bromborough and the estates around it.
A mobile mechanic in Bromborough is quoted as a fixed price before the visit is booked, and that price is made from three figures you hear separately: the call-out, the labour and the parts. All three are settled on the phone, so nothing on the final invoice arrives as a surprise.
Labour is priced against the job rather than a running clock. A seized wheel bolt or a caliper slider that has to be fought free costs us the extra minutes, not you, because the figure was agreed before anyone set off.
Wherever a real choice exists you are given it. Some engines genuinely want the manufacturer’s own part and we will say as much; on many others a good aftermarket equivalent does the same job for a fair bit less.
If the fault has not been pinned down yet, finding it carries its own separate charge, so you buy the answer and then choose. Ring 01744 808586 with the registration handy, or read how much a mobile mechanic costs.
Yes. Ford, Vauxhall and Hyundai are three of the makes we work on most, and everything from servicing and brakes to diagnostics, batteries and timing work is covered. Everyday jobs are done where the car is parked in Bromborough, and only ramp work comes to the workshop.
These makes have well-documented weak points and knowing them saves money. Several small petrol engines use a wet belt that runs in the oil and sheds material into the oil pick-up strainer as it wears, which starves the engine of pressure if it is left too long.
Diesels used mainly for short runs block their particulate filters, because the filter never gets hot enough to burn itself clean. Both faults are far cheaper caught early, and both show up on a proper diagnostic read rather than being guessed at.
Servicing is recorded to the manufacturer’s own schedule with the parts named on the invoice. See Ford servicing, Vauxhall specialists and Hyundai service and repair.
Yes, and on the Bromborough estates it is the way most of our servicing gets done. The car sits in the car park through your shift anyway, so we service it there and you drive home in a car that has already had its year’s work done to it.
All we need is permission to be on the site and a space we can open the doors and work around. Most employers and site managers are fine with it once they know somebody is coming, and it is worth a quick word before the day rather than on the morning.
A full service at work is the same service as anywhere else: oil to your engine’s own specification, oil, air and pollen filters, a fuel filter where the schedule calls for one, then a proper check over levels, tyres, lights, wipers and early wear.
The book gets stamped and what went in is written down. Brakes, batteries, diagnostics and tyres can all be done in the same visit. See car servicing or ring 01744 808586 to arrange a slot.
European block exemption rules, which stop a manufacturer tying you to its own garages, mean your warranty stays valid as long as the car is serviced to the maker’s schedule, at the correct intervals, with parts of the right quality, and the work is properly recorded.
That last part is where warranties are actually won and lost. It is not who did the work that matters but whether it can be evidenced, so the invoice names the parts, the oil specification is written down, and the service book is stamped and dated every time.
It applies to a car still inside its original manufacturer cover and to most used-car warranties as well, though a used-car policy is a contract rather than a legal right, so it is always worth reading what yours actually asks for.
Anyone telling you that servicing elsewhere automatically voids your cover is mistaken. If you want it checked against your own paperwork before booking, ring 01744 808586 or see car servicing.
Yes. Vans, pickups and small commercial vehicles are serviced and repaired on site across the Bromborough industrial estates, so the vehicle stays where it is working instead of losing a day. Servicing, brakes, batteries, diagnostics and tyres are all done at the unit or the yard.
Downtime is the real cost on a working vehicle. A van off the road is not just a repair bill, it is a day of missed work, so jobs are booked round when the vehicle is standing rather than when it is needed.
For businesses running several vehicles the same applies at scale, with servicing scheduled so the whole set is never off at once. MOTs, cambelts and anything needing a ramp are collected and returned rather than left for you to arrange.
See fleet and commercial repairs and 1link fleet maintenance. For a single van, mobile repairs covers the everyday work.
Yes, and it is one of the most common jobs we do around Bromborough. The battery is load tested first and the charging system is checked in the same visit, so you are not sold a battery for a fault that turns out to be the alternator instead.
Fitting takes twenty to thirty minutes from arrival on most cars. Where the battery lives under a seat, in a boot floor or behind a wheel arch it takes longer, and knowing the registration in advance means the correct type and size is already on board.
Most cars built since roughly 2010 need the new battery registered to the vehicle electronically. Without that step the charging system keeps treating it as the old one, undercharges it, and the replacement ends up dying early for no good reason.
The old battery is taken away and recycled. See mobile battery fitting in Bromborough or car battery replacement for what is involved.
Often yes. Batteries, no-starts and most electrical faults are same-day work provided you ring before late morning, and around Bromborough these calls tend to come at the end of a shift when a car has stood in one place since early in the day.
Tell us what the car did rather than what you think is wrong. Silence, a single heavy clunk, rapid clicking, or an engine that turns over without ever firing all point somewhere different, and that one sentence decides what gets loaded before anybody sets off.
Most turn out to be the battery or the charging system, and both are measured rather than guessed at. Where the cause is the starter motor, the immobiliser or fuelling, the diagnosis is priced separately so nothing is fitted on a hunch.
Hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 12:30pm. Ring 01744 808586 or see car won’t start Bromborough.
By measuring, because from the driver’s seat they feel identical. A healthy battery at rest sits close to 12.6 volts, and under 12.4 it is discharged rather than dead. With the engine running the charging system should be putting out between 13.8 and 14.6 volts.
If the resting voltage is low but the charging voltage is healthy, the battery is the problem. If the battery is fine but the engine-running figure sits below about 13.8 volts, the alternator is not putting enough back and a new battery will simply flatten again.
There is a third possibility worth ruling out. A car left overnight should settle to a current draw of under roughly 50 milliamps, and anything much higher means something on board is refusing to switch off and is quietly emptying the battery while you sleep.
All three are checked before anything is sold. See alternator replacement or mobile battery fitting.
Yes. Send the size printed on the sidewall along with your postcode and a price and a slot come back, then the tyres and the balancer arrive together. The wheel goes back on balanced and torqued to figure, finished rather than left as a temporary arrangement.
The sidewall reads as three numbers and a letter, for example 205/55 R16, followed by a load index and a speed rating. Sending a photograph of it is easiest, and it also lets us check that all four are the size the car should be running.
Tread depth is where most people lose out. The legal minimum is 1.6mm across the middle three quarters, but wet braking distances start lengthening noticeably below about 3mm, so knowing the measurement tells you whether you have a season left or a week.
Costs can be spread if it helps. See mobile tyre fitting in Bromborough, pay monthly tyres or tyre finance.
A puncture in the central three quarters of the tread, no wider than 6mm, can be repaired properly from the inside with a combined plug and patch. Damage in the shoulder or sidewall cannot be repaired safely at all, so where the damage sits decides it.
The reason is that the sidewall flexes constantly as the tyre rolls, so no repair will stay put there. A proper repair also means the tyre coming off the rim so the inside can be inspected, because a puncture that has been driven on may have damaged the casing.
An external plug pushed in without removing the tyre is not a legitimate repair and it will not pass an MOT. If the tyre has been run flat, the internal damage is usually the deciding factor rather than the hole itself.
We tell you which it is before fitting anything. See mobile tyre fitting, or ring 01744 808586 with the size and we will bring a replacement in case.
An MOT has to be carried out at a DVSA-approved test centre, which is why nobody can do one at your address. Ours is at Boundary Road on the same site as the workshop, and the car can be collected from Bromborough and returned to you afterwards.
You can present a car up to a month minus a day before the current certificate expires and keep the existing renewal date, which is worth knowing if a busy week is coming. Testing early also leaves room to sort any failure before the certificate runs out.
If something does fail, you get told what it is and what it will cost before any work starts. Corroded brake pipes, worn discs, tyres under the limit and failed bulbs are the usual culprits, and most are straightforward once identified.
Advisory items are explained rather than simply listed, so you know what needs doing now and what can wait. See MOT testing or ring 01744 808586.
A full service covers an oil change to your engine’s own specification, a new oil filter, an air filter and a pollen filter, plus a fuel filter where the schedule calls for one. The price is quoted against your registration before booking rather than as a range.
After the parts comes the inspection, and that is where the value sits. Levels, tyre condition and tread depths, brake wear measured in millimetres, lights, wipers, suspension, exhaust and any leak or early wear that is going to become expensive if left another year.
You get told what was found and what it means, separated clearly into what needs doing now and what can safely wait. Nothing is carried out beyond the service itself without you agreeing to it first.
The service book is stamped and the parts used are named on the invoice, which keeps a manufacturer warranty intact. See car servicing for what each level includes.
Because short runs never let an engine reach proper working temperature. Water and unburnt fuel stay in the oil rather than boiling off, a diesel particulate filter never gets hot enough to burn itself clean, and the battery never fully replaces what starting the engine used.
Around Bromborough that pattern is everywhere: a couple of miles to a unit or the retail park, eight hours standing, then a couple of miles home. Mileage stays low, so the car looks barely used, while the wear it is actually taking says something quite different.
Brakes suffer too. Discs and calipers that never get properly warm hold surface moisture, so pads stick, sliders seize and a disc can corrode noticeably in a fortnight of damp weather while the car sits still.
A longer run once a fortnight genuinely helps. If a warning light has already appeared, see DPF work or vehicle diagnostics before it gets worse.
A brake pad starts life with roughly 10 to 12mm of friction material and is worn out at about 3mm, so the honest answer is a measurement rather than a feeling. We give you the figure in millimetres and you can see for yourself how much is left.
Noise is a poor guide on its own. A squeal is often the wear indicator doing exactly its job, but a grinding sound usually means the material has gone entirely and the backing plate is now cutting into the disc, which turns a pad job into a pad and disc job.
Discs wear as well and have a minimum thickness stamped on them by the manufacturer. Fitting new pads to a disc already at its limit simply wastes the pads, so both get measured before anything is ordered.
Pads and discs are ordinary driveway work, torqued to figure and bedded in before we leave. See brake pads and discs and brake repairs.
Yes. Most air conditioning that has stopped being cold is not broken at all, it has simply leaked slowly over several summers until there is no longer enough refrigerant in the system to work. That is diagnosed and repaired at your address in Bromborough.
A regas on its own is only worth doing once the leak is found, otherwise the same money goes out through the same hole a few months later. So the system is tested for leaks first, and you are told what is losing gas before anything is put back in.
Condensers at the front of the car take stone damage, and seals and hose connections dry out and shrink with age. A system that has been left empty for a long time can also lose its compressor, because the refrigerant carries the oil that lubricates it.
Running it once a fortnight all year keeps the seals in better condition. See air con diagnostics in Bromborough or air con regas.
Yes. Our technicians hold IMI Level 4 qualifications for high-voltage electric and hybrid work, which is the level legally required to work safely on those systems. Servicing, diagnostics, brakes, tyres and twelve-volt battery faults are all carried out where the car is parked in Bromborough.
Electric cars are not maintenance-free, they simply wear differently. The instant torque and the extra weight get through tyres faster, so tread is worth watching more closely than on a comparable petrol car of the same age and mileage.
Brakes go the other way. Regenerative braking does most of the slowing, so the friction brakes are used far less and calipers can seize through lack of use rather than wear, which is why they need checking and freeing off rather than replacing.
The ordinary twelve-volt battery still fails and still strands the car. See EV diagnostics, hybrid diagnostics or EV MOT testing.
Yes. Payment Assist lets a repair be split over 3, 4 or 6 months at 0% interest, so a bill that arrived without warning does not have to be settled in one go. On amounts up to £1,000 it is a soft credit search only.
A soft search leaves no mark visible to other lenders, so asking whether you qualify costs you nothing even if you decide against it. You need to be over 18, resident in the UK, and paying by debit card in your own name.
The one thing that matters is timing. It has to be arranged before the invoice is settled rather than afterwards, so mention it during the first conversation, at the point where the three figures are being agreed.
It covers everything on this page, including tyres and MOT failure work. See pay monthly car repairs, or ring 01744 808586 and ask before you book.
The call-out is quoted to you as its own figure alongside the labour and the parts, so you can see exactly what it is before anything is booked. There is no premium for one part of Bromborough over another and no hidden addition once we arrive.
Keeping it separate is deliberate. Buried inside a single total it becomes impossible to judge whether a quote is fair, whereas listed on its own you can weigh it against everything else and decide with the full picture in front of you.
Our vans cover the North West with one working this stretch of the Wirral, so a kerbside space in Port Sunlight costs exactly what a driveway in Brookhurst or a bay on an estate costs.
Nothing is added afterwards for the awkwardness of a job. See how much a mobile mechanic costs for a breakdown by job type.
It gets collected, taken to our own workshop at Boundary Road, put on a ramp and returned to you finished. Clutches, cambelts, wet belts, gearbox internals, welding and MOTs all need the wheels off the ground, and collection is part of the job rather than an extra.
Some work simply cannot be done safely at an address, because it needs the suspension hanging free or the vehicle held at height for long periods. Pretending otherwise is how jobs get half done, so we are straight with you about which category yours falls into.
Wet belts deserve a mention on smaller modern engines. The belt sits inside the engine, down in the oil, and as it breaks up the debris it sheds clogs the oil pick-up strainer until the engine loses pressure, which is why the replacement interval is worth knowing.
Everything is priced before the vehicle moves. See clutch repair, gearbox repairs and cambelt replacement costs.
We cover the whole of Bromborough, including Bromborough Pool, Brookhurst, Poulton Lancelyn, Raby Mere, Eastham, Spital, Port Sunlight and New Ferry, along with the industrial estates off the Dock Road and the units around Croft Retail Park. Send a postcode and a slot comes back.
No part of the town is charged at a premium. Our vans work across the North West with one on this side of the Wirral, so a kerbside job in the village is priced the same as a driveway on a newer estate.
Past the town boundary the same service continues into Bebington, Ellesmere Port, Birkenhead and Chester, which suits anybody whose home and workplace sit on opposite banks of the river.
We are open 8:30am to 5pm through the week and 9am to 12:30pm on a Saturday, and callouts run to those hours too. The Saturday slots go before anything else does, so ask early. Ring 01744 808586.
Mobile mechanic Bromborough · Before you ring us
What to have ready when you ring
Three things, and the call is over in a couple of minutes.
The registration
One number identifies the engine variant, the oil specification and every part number we are likely to need. If the plate is not in front of you, make and model will get us close.
What it is doing, in your own words
The noise it makes, the moment it makes it, and anything lit up on the dashboard. Describing it beats naming a part, because a wrong guess gets the wrong thing loaded.
Where the car is parked
The drive, the kerb, a works car park or a yard. That answer decides what comes with us and how much space we allow for.
What does not help is another garage’s figure. We would sooner look at the vehicle and price what is actually in front of us than reverse-engineer a number that belonged to a different diagnosis.
Mobile mechanic Bromborough · Give us a shout
Tell us where the vehicle is and what it is doing
Start with the registration and a plain description of the problem, then say where the vehicle will be standing — the drive, the kerb, the car park at work or a yard. Back comes what it needs, the three figures and the earliest slot open to you. Should the fault on the day prove to be a different one, work stops and you get a phone call before anything else happens.
