Mobile battery fitting · Blackpool

A mechanic who comes to your house, not a marketplace

When a battery goes, the car is already stuck where it is parked. So we come to it — at the house, on the street, at work or wherever it has stopped across Blackpool — and deal with it there.

You are dealing with the same outfit from the phone call to the job being finished. Not a booking platform that passes you to whichever of thirty-odd mechanics is free, and not a different face each time. You ring, you get told what it will cost and roughly when, and that is who turns up.

Every visit starts with a test rather than a sale. The battery goes on a load test and the charging system gets checked at the same time, because those two together are what tell you whether you actually need a battery or whether something else is flattening it.

If the car is turning over strongly and still will not fire, a battery is not your problem — that is covered on car won’t start in Blackpool. We also run a full mobile mechanic service across Blackpool for everything beyond batteries.

Tested, not assumed

We check whether you need a battery before we sell you one

Book a battery online anywhere and you have already decided what the fault is. Plenty of the cars we go out to do not need a battery at all — they need the reason the battery keeps going flat sorting instead. The test costs you nothing either way, and if the answer is that your battery is fine, that is what you will be told.

Technician load testing a car battery and alternator at a customer address | mobile battery fitting Blackpool

The question worth answering

Battery, alternator or starter?

Three different faults, three different bills, and they all look the same from the driver’s seat. Getting this wrong is how people end up buying a battery twice.

A flat battery gives you a single click, or nothing at all, and the dashboard lights dim right down as you turn the key. Jump it and the car runs. That is the one a new battery actually fixes.

An alternator that has stopped charging will let the car start once off a jump and then die again within a few miles, usually with the battery light on. Fit a new battery to that and you will be flat again in days, having paid for a part that was never the problem.

A starter motor gives you a healthy dashboard, full-brightness lights and either one heavy clunk or nothing when you turn the key. The battery is fine. It is the thing being asked to turn the engine that has failed.

We test for all three at your address before anything is fitted, which is the whole difference between being sold a battery and being told what is wrong. If it points past the battery, the no-start diagnosis picks it up.

Before you get caught out

The warnings a battery gives first

Batteries almost always give a fortnight of hints. Here is what to listen for.

Slow only on the first start

Laboured at eight in the morning, then perfect for the rest of the day. That is the earliest sign there is, and the one most people put down to the weather.

Green crust on the terminals

Furry white or green build-up on the posts means a poor connection and a battery that is not charging or cranking properly. Worth looking at before it strands you.

Flat after a few days stood

A good battery survives a fortnight parked up. If yours dies over a long weekend, something is drawing current with the car locked, and that needs finding.

Stop-start has stopped

The car disables stop-start when the battery can no longer guarantee a restart. It reads like a system fault and is usually the battery admitting defeat.

Headlights sag when cranking

Lights dipping hard as the starter turns means voltage collapsing under load — the only test that really matters, and one a resting voltmeter reading will pass.

Into its fifth winter

Four to six years is a normal life. Past five, have it tested before the cold rather than after. It takes minutes at your door.

Getting the right one

The right battery, and why coding matters

Fitting the wrong type is the most common reason a new battery dies early, and it is entirely avoidable.

Standard flooded batteries suit older cars without stop-start. They do the job they were designed for and there is no sense paying past that.

EFB goes in entry-level stop-start cars. Stop-start part-drains and refills a battery constantly, which chews through an ordinary one in a year or two.

AGM is for stop-start with regenerative braking, or anything with a heavy electrical load sat on it. Put a standard battery in a car that wants AGM and you will be buying again before long.

On most stop-start cars the new battery also has to be registered to the charging system. Skip that and the car keeps charging to the profile it learned for the worn-out battery, which shortens the life of the one you have just paid for. It takes a few minutes with the diagnostic kit and it is part of the job, not an extra.

Hybrid gone dead?

It is usually the 12 volt one

We take electric and hybrid cars, which several of the big chains will not. A hybrid with a flat 12 volt battery will not wake up at all, even with a healthy drive battery, and that is a job we do at your address.

Where we come out to

Across Blackpool and the Fylde coast

We are out to Bispham, Marton, Layton, Norbreck, Squires Gate, Staining and Carleton regularly, and north to Cleveleys, Thornton and Poulton-le-Fylde.

Blackpool is an easy place to work in for this kind of job. Most of it is terraced streets and estate roads where the car is parked within a few feet of the front door, which is exactly the situation a mobile fitting suits. The seafront and the side streets off it get tight in season, so if you are central it helps to tell us where the car actually sits when you ring.

We also cover Lytham St Annes and run inland to Preston. If your street is not named here it does not mean we will not come — ring and ask, because it depends where the van already is that day.

Blackpool · worth knowing

Salt air goes for the terminals first

Cars parked within a mile or so of the front get a harder time of it than most. Salt-laden damp air is what does it, and battery terminals are one of the first places it shows — that furry white or green build-up on the posts. It is not just cosmetic. A corroded terminal adds resistance exactly where the battery needs to shift a lot of current at once, so the car cranks slowly and the battery never quite charges properly, and people replace a perfectly good battery because of it.

The other one round here is seasonal. A second car or a runaround that gets used flat out through the summer and then stands from October is a car whose battery slowly flattens over winter and is dead by the time it is wanted again. A battery left below full charge for months sulphates, and that damage does not come back.

Both are worth a two-minute look before the cold sets in. Clean terminals and a battery that gets a proper run now and then will add a winter or two to its life.

Mobile battery fitting Blackpool · FAQs

Mobile battery fitting Blackpool: the questions we get

How does mobile battery fitting work in Blackpool?

We come to wherever the car is parked in Blackpool, load-test the battery and the charging system on the spot, and fit the right battery there and then if it turns out you need one. Nothing has to be jumped, driven or booked into a workshop first. The new battery is registered to the car where the electronics expect it, and the old one leaves with us. You are told the cost on the phone before anyone sets off, so there is no figure appearing at the end you did not agree to. Ring 01744 808586.

Can you come out to a flat battery today?

Usually yes, if you ring in the morning and the car is somewhere we can safely work. Same-day is what most battery calls actually need, so that is what we aim for across Blackpool and the Fylde coast rather than booking you in for later in the week. What decides it is where the van already is and what is in front of you, so you get a realistic window on the phone instead of an optimistic one. If we genuinely cannot reach you today we will say so, and our mobile mechanic service in Blackpool covers the same area for anything larger.

Do you deliver and fit the battery, or just supply it?

Both, and in the same visit. The battery is brought to you, fitted, coded to the car where that is needed, and the old one taken away with us, so there is no separate delivery to arrange and nothing left over for you to sort out afterwards. We carry standard, EFB and AGM types on the van, so the vast majority of cars are finished first time rather than us going away and coming back with a part. Unusual fitments get flagged on the phone, not on the day. The same batteries go into our workshop battery work.

Is it the battery, the alternator or the starter?

They look identical from the driver’s seat and they cost very different amounts, so we test all three before fitting anything. A flat battery clicks once with the dash dimming; an alternator lets the car start off a jump and die a few miles later; a starter gives full-brightness lights and one heavy clunk. Getting that wrong is how people end up buying two batteries in a month. If the testing points past the battery, the no-start diagnosis picks it up from there.

Do you come out to the house, or do I bring the car somewhere?

We come to the house. That is the whole service — the car stays where it is, on the drive, on the street outside or wherever it stopped, and the work happens there. You do not need to move it, get it started, or arrange to be anywhere at a particular time beyond letting us at the car. It is the same for work car parks and supermarket car parks, as long as there is safe room to work around the vehicle. Ring 01744 808586 and tell us where it is sitting.

How long does it take?

Most cars are finished inside half an hour from us pulling up, and that includes testing the battery and charging system first and registering the new battery to the car afterwards. You do not have to stand with it the whole time, so long as we can reach the vehicle. A few fitments take longer — batteries under a seat, beneath a boot floor or tucked behind a wheel arch all add a bit — and that gets mentioned when you ring rather than sprung on you at the kerb. If a tyre needs doing too, both can be done in one visit.

Which battery does my car need?

That is decided by the car, not by what is cheapest on the van. Fitment, cranking power and whether it runs stop-start all come into it, and we check the car’s actual specification rather than fitting whatever physically drops into the tray. Older cars without stop-start take a standard flooded battery. Entry-level stop-start needs EFB. Stop-start with regenerative braking, or a car with a heavy electrical load, needs AGM. Fitting below what the car calls for is the single most common reason a new battery is dead inside a year, and it is the easiest thing to get right. The same rules apply to our workshop battery fitting.

Can a flat battery cause an MOT failure?

A car that will not start cannot be tested at all, so a weak battery can cost you the appointment even though the battery itself is not an MOT item. It can also leave warning lights lit or stop the tester reading the car’s emissions and diagnostic systems properly. The readiness monitors a modern car reports at the MOT are wiped whenever the battery goes flat or is disconnected, and they need a proper drive cycle to reset. If yours is borderline, sort it before the test rather than pay for a retest — or have the starting fault looked at first.

What if the test says the battery is fine?

Then we tell you it is fine and we do not sell you one. A battery that keeps going flat while testing healthy points somewhere else — usually an alternator that has stopped putting charge back, or a circuit still drawing current after the car is locked and left. Fitting a battery to either of those buys you a fortnight and fixes nothing. Tracing a drain properly means measuring current with the car asleep and working through the fuses, which is a diagnostic job rather than a part swap, and you would be told that before it turned into a bigger bill. Call 01744 808586.

Will I lose my radio code or settings?

Almost never. Power is kept to the car while the old battery comes out, so the radio code, clock, seat memory and stored settings all stay exactly as they were and you get the car back the way you left it. A handful of makes still want a short relearn afterwards, such as resetting a window or a steering angle sensor, and that is done before we leave rather than left for you to discover. If anything genuinely needs a code you do not have, you will be told at the time, not after the event. The same care applies on every mobile job we do in Blackpool.

Is the battery guaranteed?

Yes. Every battery we fit comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty behind it, which runs up to five years depending on the battery your car takes, and our own one year guarantee sits on top of that covering the fitting itself. We fit Yuasa, Exide and Bosch precisely because that backing is worth having on the rare occasion one does fail early. If it does, you ring us and we come back out to the car rather than being handed a helpline number. More on the batteries we fit.

Can I spread the cost?

Yes. Payment Assist splits the bill into monthly instalments on a soft credit search only, so unlike a finance application it leaves no mark on your credit file, and it covers the whole job rather than only the battery. It is most use when the testing turns up more than you expected, such as an alternator or a drain that needs tracing and repairing. There is a fuller explanation on pay monthly car repairs, or just ask when you ring and we will talk it through.

Which parts of Blackpool do you cover?

Bispham, Marton, Layton, Norbreck, Squires Gate, Staining and Carleton are all on the regular run, and we head north to Cleveleys, Thornton and Poulton-le-Fylde as well as working down the coast, so most of the Fylde is covered on an ordinary day. If your street is not named that does not mean we will not come; it usually depends where the van already is, so it is worth ringing to ask. We also cover Lytham St Annes and run inland to Preston.
