Fastlane Autocare is the independent choice for BMW 3 Series servicing in St Helens, looking after every generation from the E46 and E90 to the F30 and the latest G20. We service the 318i, 320i, 328i and 330i petrols and the 316d, 318d, 320d and 330d diesels to BMW’s Condition Based Servicing schedule, using the correct LL-04 oils and quality filters so your history stays intact — without main-dealer prices.
Whether your 3 Series needs an interim oil service, a full service, brakes, a warning light diagnosed or a timing chain checked, our technicians know these cars inside out. You get honest advice and a clear, fixed quote before any work starts, and we only fit parts that meet or beat BMW’s own specification.
The 3 Series rewards proper care — the right oil at the right interval and genuine attention to its known weak points, like the N47 timing chain and the electric water pump. As a dedicated BMW 3 Series servicing specialist, we get the job done accurately first time, with fewer comebacks and no unnecessary upsells.
Booking is easy: call, WhatsApp or book online, and we’ll get your car in quickly at our Boundary Road workshop. Ask about collection if you cannot make it to us — wherever possible we work around your day so your BMW 3 Series servicing is as hassle-free as it is thorough.

On the diesel 3 Series — the hugely popular 320d — the N47 timing chain is the fault to know about. The chain runs at the back of the engine, so a rattle on cold start-up must never be ignored: left too long it can fail and wreck the engine. We check for it and carry out timing chain replacement before it becomes a much larger bill. The later B47 320d and the six-cylinder N57 330d are stronger, but all reward clean oil at the right interval as part of good BMW 3 Series servicing.
Diesels doing short, cold runs around St Helens tend to clog the DPF and EGR valve, and worn injectors or sticking swirl flaps can cause rough running and smoke. Rather than delete anything — which is an MOT failure and illegal on the road — we clean, regenerate and repair these systems so the car stays legal and drives properly again.
On petrol cars the N20 320i and 328i have a known timing chain guide weakness, while the N54 and N55 335i can need attention to the high-pressure fuel pump, injectors and wastegate. The straight-six N52, N53 and B58 units are strong but rely on healthy VANOS and cooling. Across the range the electric water pump and thermostat are common failures — a temperature warning is your cue to have them checked.
Oil leaks are worth catching early. The oil-filter-housing gasket and rocker-cover gasket commonly weep on the 3 Series, dropping oil onto the belt, alternator or exhaust and causing a burning smell. We reseal them properly and clean the area so you can confirm the leak has stopped. On higher-mileage E46 and E90 cars we also inspect the rear subframe mounting points, a known area worth keeping an eye on.
Suspension and brakes are the other regulars. Tired front control-arm bushes cause vague steering and uneven tyre wear, while worn rear suspension bushes and drop links knock over bumps. Because the 3 Series is rear- or four-wheel drive, brake wear can differ front to rear, so we measure everything and quote only what is genuinely due.
The 3 Series has changed a lot over the years, and we service every version: the E46, the E90/E91 saloon and touring, the E92/E93 coupe and convertible, the F30/F31 and F34 GT, and the latest G20/G21. xDrive four-wheel-drive models need their transfer case and differential oil checked too, and we build all of this into your BMW 3 Series servicing so nothing gets missed.
It helps to know what a service includes. An interim service covers engine oil and a new filter, a full safety inspection and fluid top-ups — ideal between full services or for higher-mileage cars. A full service adds air, pollen and (on diesels) fuel filters, plus deeper checks. We tailor the work to your mileage and the car’s Condition Based Servicing data rather than selling parts you don’t need.
Older 3 Series models have their own quirks worth checking during a service. On the E46 and E90 the cooling system uses plastic components — the expansion tank, thermostat housing and water pump — that grow brittle with age and can fail without much warning, so we inspect them closely. The DISA intake valve on some petrols and worn window regulators are other familiar jobs, and on higher-mileage cars the rear subframe mounting area deserves a proper look.
Getting the intervals right is central to good BMW 3 Series servicing. Brake fluid absorbs moisture and should be renewed roughly every two years, coolant and its anti-corrosion additives degrade over time, and the pollen microfilter is easy to overlook yet affects your heater and air-con. We check all of these against the car’s Condition Based Servicing data and your mileage, then tell you honestly what is due now and what can safely wait.
We also look after the wider 3 Series family — the Touring estates, xDrive four-wheel-drive cars that need transfer-case and differential oil checks, and the enthusiast M3 and 340i. Whatever the variant, the same disciplined approach applies: the right oil, the right parts and a proper inspection every time, so your car stays reliable between visits.
Not sure whether your 3 Series is due an interim or a full service? Just tell us the mileage and how you use the car and we’ll advise honestly. As a rule, an oil-and-filter interim service suits cars covering steady mileage between full services, while a full service is the right call once a year or at higher mileage. Either way your BMW 3 Series servicing is carried out strictly to schedule, with quality parts and your service history updated, so nothing is left to chance and there are no nasty surprises later on.
What to expect from your BMW 3 Series service
First we read any stored fault codes and check the Condition Based Servicing indicators to see exactly what your car is due. Then we carry out the interim or full service — oil and filter, a thorough safety inspection and checks on brakes, tyres, fluids and battery health — and flag anything else with a clear, fixed quote before we proceed. Once you are happy we complete the work with quality parts and reset the service interval, so your BMW 3 Series servicing history stays spotless and the car holds its value.
Because we specialise in BMW, we also catch the things a general garage can miss — an early water-pump warning, a whining VANOS, or the first hint of a stretching timing chain. Catching these during routine BMW 3 Series servicing turns a potential breakdown into a small, planned job. Every car leaves with its service book stamped or digital history updated, the indicators reset, and a written note of any advisories, so your next visit is quicker and the car is easier to sell.
