Why call a mobile tyre fitter near me?

Nobody plans for a puncture. It turns up on the school run, on the way to work, or on the driveway when you are already late. A mobile tyre fitter takes the detour out of it — instead of limping to a garage and sitting in a waiting room, the workshop comes to you.

At Fastlane Autocare, the largest independent garage in Merseyside, our mobile vans carry proper tyre changers, balancers and a big stock of rubber, so we are not waiting on a delivery truck. We are the delivery truck. Below are the five reasons drivers keep calling us out.

The 5 reasons, grouped

Tap through the three tabs below — convenience and speed, safety and the law, then value and the right equipment for your vehicle.

1. Unmatched convenience

You tell us your tyre size (it is on the sidewall, something like 205/55 R16) and where you are — home, the office car park, or the hard shoulder — and a liveried van comes to you. No towing, no waiting room, no lost day.

Every mobile fitting still includes the proper job: precision wheel balancing, a new valve where needed, eco-friendly disposal of the old tyre and a quick safety check of your others. Because we hold a big local stock, same-day and next-day slots are the norm, not the exception. It is professional tyre fitting in St Helens without the detour.

2. Roadside safety done properly

Yes, there is probably a jack in your boot. But changing a wheel on the hard shoulder of the M6 or the East Lancs Road is a genuine risk — modern cars are heavy, the wind blast from a passing lorry can rock a car off a basic jack, and you are often inches from 70mph traffic.

Our fitters are trained in roadside protocols and use proper hydraulic lifting gear and hi-vis. Get everyone out on the passenger side, behind the barrier, hazards on, then let the pros handle the tyre. Safety charity TyreSafe highlights that poor tyre condition and unsafe emergency handling are leading causes of avoidable incidents — and a modern car with no spare, just a sealant kit, will not fix a split sidewall anyway.

3, 4 & 5. Value, right kit and a local name

Cost: the myth is that mobile fitting costs a fortune in call-out fees. It does not. Premium and mid-range tyres come with free puncture repair for life, and you can spread the cost with pay-monthly at our St Helens garage — handy when a failure is unexpected.

Right equipment: EVs need the correct lifting points and higher load-rating tyres for the battery weight; motorhomes and vans need high-load rubber; alloys need non-marking machines. Our mobile units carry the lot.

Local reliability: we are a St Helens garage with a physical base and strong AA and RAC audit scores, not a faceless call centre subcontracting to whoever is cheapest. If there is ever a query, you know exactly where to find us.

No spare in the boot?

Most new cars now ship with a sealant kit instead of a spare — and sealant will not save a blown-out or sidewall-damaged tyre. If that is you, save our number before you need it: 01744 808586.

Mobile fitting is ideal

No need to move the car or call recovery — we come to your driveway or work car park, fit and balance on site, and you are sorted.

Call us, stay safe 🚨

Get everyone behind the barrier with hazards on — do not attempt the change in live traffic. Ring us with your location and we will come to you.

What to tell us on the phone

The better the information, the faster we arrive with the right tyre and the right kit. If you can, have this ready when you call:

  • Your exact location or nearest motorway junction.
  • Registration, plus make and model.
  • Whether the tyre is flat, blown out, or damaged after hitting something.
  • Your tyre size — the sidewall code like 225/45 R17 94W, if you can read it safely.
  • Whether the car is an EV or van, and if there are passengers or children with you.

Do not know the size? No problem — we can usually cross-check from the registration. And if the flat was caused by a pothole that also knocked your tracking out, we can follow up with alignment back at the workshop.

Reading the sidewall

In 225/45 R17 94W the 225 is width in mm, 45 is the profile, R is radial, 17 is the wheel size in inches, 94 is the load rating and W is the speed rating. Fit the wrong load rating on an EV or van and you get unsafe, fast-wearing tyres — so it is worth matching properly.

Honest pricing, no surprises

We keep it simple. Tyre prices depend on your size and the brand you choose, from budget options to premium Michelin and Continental — we will give you a clear price before any work starts, never a vague "we will see when we get there".

Premium and mid-range tyres include free puncture repair for life, so a nail in the tread down the line need not cost you a penny. If money is tight after an unexpected failure, pay-monthly spreads it over manageable instalments. And while you are booked in, if you need an MOT it starts from £40 — handy to line up with a tyre change.

Frequently asked questions

What is a mobile tyre fitter?

A mobile tyre fitter brings the tyres and the fitting equipment to you, so the wheel comes off, the new tyre goes on and the wheel is balanced and refitted wherever the vehicle is parked. That suits a car sitting on a driveway with a flat, a van that cannot leave a job, or anyone who simply cannot spare the time to come in. Details are on our mobile tyre fitting page, or ring 01744 808586 to check availability.

Are mobile tyre fitters any good?

A good mobile fitter does exactly the same job as a workshop, using a proper tyre machine and a wheel balancer carried in the van, and the quality comes down to the equipment and the person using it rather than the location. What a mobile visit cannot easily do is put the car on a four-post ramp for alignment or a full inspection. For a straightforward replacement it is a genuinely equal option. Compare it with our workshop tyre fitting.

How quickly can you get to me?

Availability depends on the day and how many jobs are already booked, so ring as early as you can and we will give you a realistic window rather than a vague promise. Our workshop hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 to 5:00 and Saturday 9:00 to 12:30, and mobile work runs within those hours. Where nothing is free, the workshop can often fit you in the same day. Call 01744 808586 or use the contact page.

What information do you need when I call?

Have the registration ready, plus the tyre size from the sidewall if you can read it, and tell us where the vehicle is and whether it is on a driveway, a car park or the roadside. The registration gives us the manufacturer fitment, and the sidewall confirms what is actually on the car, which is not always the same thing. Knowing whether it is a run flat matters too. Our guide to tyre sidewall markings shows where to look.

Can a puncture be repaired instead of replaced?

Repair is possible when the puncture sits within the central three quarters of the tread, is no larger than 6mm, and the tyre has no other damage, with the repair carried out to the British Standard from inside the tyre. Sidewall damage and shoulder punctures cannot be repaired safely. A plug pushed in from outside without removing the tyre is not an acceptable repair. We assess it properly first. See our tyre advice page.

Do you balance the wheel as part of a mobile fit?

Balancing is part of every fit, mobile or in the workshop, because a wheel that is even slightly out produces a vibration through the steering at motorway speed and wears the tyre unevenly. The balancer travels with the fitting equipment. Where a vibration persists after balancing, the cause is usually elsewhere in the suspension or a buckled rim. Our wheel balancing page covers it, and we can check the geometry in the workshop.

Can you fit run flat tyres at the roadside?

Run flats need a tyre machine set up for the stiffer sidewall, along with the correct technique to avoid damaging the bead, so tell us when you book that the car uses them. BMW, Mini and several Mercedes models are the usual ones. The car will also need its tyre pressure monitoring reset afterwards. See our run flat tyre page and the guide to a tyre pressure light reset.

Do you cover vans and light commercials?

Vans are covered as well as cars, and getting the right load index and speed rating matters more on a commercial vehicle because it carries weight every day. A van fitted with car-rated tyres is a genuine safety concern and an MOT problem. Tell us the vehicle when you call so the correct tyre comes out with the fitter. See our van tyres page or ring 01744 808586 to arrange it.

Is mobile fitting more expensive than coming in?

Mobile fitting carries a call-out element because the equipment and the fitter travel to you, and against that you save your own time and avoid driving on a damaged tyre. For a single tyre on a car that cannot move, it is usually the better value option. For a full set on a car that drives fine, the workshop generally works out cheaper and lets us check alignment too. Ask us both ways on 01744 808586, and see our pay monthly tyres option.

What if the wheel bolts are locked or seized?

Have the locking wheel nut key to hand, because without it the wheel cannot come off and the visit is wasted. Keys usually live in the boot well, the glovebox or with the spare wheel. Seized or rounded bolts happen on older cars and sometimes need workshop tooling to remove. Tell us if you know a bolt has been rounded before. Our St Helens workshop can deal with the stubborn ones.

Should I use the spare or the repair kit first?

Fit the spare if the car has one and you are comfortable doing it safely, on level ground away from traffic, and remember a space saver has its own speed limit. Sealant repair kits are a get-you-home measure and they make a professional repair harder afterwards, because the tyre has to be cleaned out. Neither is a substitute for a proper fit. Ring us afterwards on 01744 808586 or read our tyre advice guide.

Do electric cars need anything different?

Electric cars need tyres rated for the extra battery weight and the instant torque, usually with a higher load index and often a noise-reducing foam liner inside. Jacking points are also specific on an EV, because lifting in the wrong place can damage the battery pack casing. Both are worth mentioning when you book. Our EV tyre range covers the main sizes, and our IMI Level 4 qualified EV technicians handle the rest of the car.

Can you store my seasonal tyres?

We offer a tyre storage service, so a set of winter tyres can live with us through the summer and come back onto the car when the weather turns. That saves garage space and keeps the tyres in proper conditions rather than propped against a shed wall in the sun. Wheels are cleaned and inspected before storage. See our tyre hotel page or the winter tyres section for what is involved.

Where are you based and which areas do you cover?

We are at 232-254 Boundary Road, St Helens, WA10 2PZ, and our mobile fitting covers St Helens and the surrounding parts of Merseyside within our workshop hours. Anything outside that radius is worth a call, since it depends on the day. Bringing the car in remains the quickest route when it is driveable. Find directions on our contact page, or browse the range on our St Helens tyres page.
